Beatrice Benbrook
MONETT, Mo. - Beatrice M. Benbrook, 90, Monett, died at at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Benbrook was born Aug. 24, 1906, at Verona. She lived in the Monett area most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Monett.
Her husband, Samuel O. Benbrook, died Oct. 2, 1947.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Benbrook, Monett; two daughters, Juanita Williams and Wilma Williams, both of Monett; two sisters, Marie Williams, Monett, and Carolyn Ford, Elmo; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Liberty Cemetery, north of Monett. The Rev. John Braun will officiate.
Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett. Visitation will follow.
Effie Brashar
NEOSHO, Mo. - Effie Sarah Phillips Brashar, 78, 610 Benham Ave., died at 4:17 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Brashar was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Barry County. She moved to Neosho in 1980. She was a homemaker.
She married Larkin W. Phillips on May 5, 1935. He died July 4, 1974. She later married Lee V. Brashar, who died Dec. 25, 1986.
One son also preceded her in death.
Survivors include six daughters, Irene Miksell, Joplin, Mary White, Hutchinson, Kan., Ruth Payton, Neosho, Linda Baker, Morrison, Colo., Millie Fletcher, Jasper, and Wanda Harris, Columbus, Kan.; eight sons, Earl Phillips and Virgil Phillips, both of Joplin; Kenneth Phillips, Columbus, Gene Phillips, Powell, Paul Phillips, Hot Springs, Ark., Bob Phillips and Walter Phillips, both of Neosho, and Fred Phillips, Cameron; two sisters, Marie Jones, Goodman, and Katherine Butler, Neosho; a brother, Junior Shockley, Joplin; 45 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. The Rev. W.F. Conley will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Stella.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pearl Corum
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Pearl Corum, 70, 708 N. Roane St., died at 9:12 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after three years of ill health.
Mrs. Corum was born Oct. 17, 1926, at Carterville. She had lived in the Webb City area all her life. She and her husband were route agents for The Joplin Globe for 36 years. They retired in 1985.
She was a member of Central Christian Center, Joplin.
She married Donald L. Corum on June 19, 1945, at Columbus, Kan. He died July 16, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Corum, of the home, and Joe Corum, Joplin; a daughter, Donna Lee McDonald, Oronogo route 1; a brother, Paul Edwards, Oronogo; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Red Oak Cemetery, east of Avilla. The Rev. Doug Wilkerson will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Charles Marrett, Lance Nichols, Jerry Corum, Jimmy George, Larry Sheridan and Ed Durham.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City.
The family will be at the home of a son, Joe Corum, 1622 Sergeant Ave., Joplin.
Glenn Garber
ANDERSON, Mo. - Glenn Garber, 66, Anderson, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at his home after an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Garber was born Jan. 21, 1930, at Excelsior. He lived 10 years in the Anderson area after he moved from Jefferson City. He was self-employed in a heating and air conditioning business. He was a Baptist and a member of Central Christian Center at Joplin.
He married Loreta Fields on Sept. 23, 1956. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Donald L. Garber, Edmond, Okla., and Dennis E. Garber, Jefferson City; a brother, Charles Garber, Sedalia; two sisters, Florence Bieri, California, Mo., and Mary Sterling, Tipton; and three grandsons.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church at Tipton. Dusty Klein will officiate. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery at Versailles.
Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. today at Ozark Funeral Home at Anderson.
Roger Peterson
SARCOXIE, Mo. - Services for Roger E. Peterson, 78, Sarcoxie, who died Tuesday, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Housh Funeral Home, Sarcoxie.
The Rev. Eldon Freeland will officiate. Burial will be in Fullerton Cemetery, south of Carthage.
Pallbearers will be Tim Freeman, Justin Freeman, Travis Freeman, Jess Freeman, Colt Freeman and Vernon Freeland.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mary Piercy
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Mary C. Piercy, 84, St. Joseph, formerly of Webb City and Carthage, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in a St. Joseph nursing home after an illness.
Mrs. Piercy was born Jan. 22, 1912, at Webb City. She was employed 10 years as a teller at Merchants and Miners Bank, Webb City. She resided in St. Joseph from 1949 to 1969. She moved to Carthage, then returned to Neosho in 1983.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Cathedral Catholic Church and was a former member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Carthage.
She married Milton D. Piercy on Oct. 16, 1939. He died in November 1972.
Surviving are a daughter, Catherine Ann Heimovics, Fairway, Kan.; three sons, Milton D. Piercy Jr., St. Joseph, William Piercy, Kansas City, and Patrick Piercy, Springfield, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Cathedral Catholic Church. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Park Cemetery, Carthage.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph, where parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Denton Pitts
MONETT, Mo. - Services for Denton Ashby Pitts, 76, Monett, who died Saturday, have been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
The Rev. Mark Mildren will officiate. Burial will be in Monett IOOF Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
