Rosalind Sutton
CARTHAGE, Mo. - Rosalind Lena Winkler Sutton, 106, Midwest City, Okla., a Carthage native, died at 12:04 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at a Midwest City nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Sutton was born Jan. 23, 1890, in Carthage. She lived most of her life in the Carthage area. She moved to Midwest City about 14 years ago. She was a homemaker. She sold Avon products in the 1930s and '40s.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, both in Carthage.
She married William A. Sutton on Nov. 9, 1915, in Carthage. He died Aug. 19, 1982.
Survivors include a son, Bill Sutton, Chula Vista, Calif.; a daughter, Eileen May Putnam, Del City, Okla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage. The Rev. Bill Sutter will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Edith Harmon
Edith L. Harmon, 97, Joplin, died at 2:05 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997 at a Joplin nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Harmon was born March 22, 1899 in Chicago, Ill. She had lived in the Neosho area for many years until she moved to Joplin. She was a member of the Christian church and a member of Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses Clifford Harmon, on Jan. 28, 1996.
A stepdaughter, Marialyce Smith, Jefferson City, survives.
Private graveside services will be held today at Oakwood Cemetery, southwest of Neosho, under direction of Clark Funeral Home.
Willis Pounds
Willis E. Pounds Sr., 64, 1702 Kentucky Ave., died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Pounds was born Nov. 20, 1922, at Potosi. He had lived nine years in Joplin, where he moved from Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a truck driver for Sitton Motor Lines Inc. He retired in 1991. He received a degree in transportation management at Salt Lake City.
He was a veteran of the Korean War.
He married Lavern Lemmon on Aug. 28, 1963, at Reno, Nev. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Kenneth Pounds, state of California, Jim Pounds, Seattle, Wash., Willis Pounds Jr. and Rick Pounds, both of Joplin; five daughters, Debra Bulger, Seattle, Terrie Wachter, Salt Lake City, and Kelly Pounds and Kim Duley, both of Joplin, and Melanie Caruso, Cedar City, Utah; two brothers, Raymond Pounds, Joplin, and Michael Pounds, Pomona, Calif.; two sisters, Alma Chalmers, state of California, and Betty Oberhelman, Laguna Niegel, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Ron Thomure, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Cemetery, Joplin.
Pallbearers will be Kirk Wachter, Rayond Pounds, Michael Pounds, Rick Pounds, Willis Pounds Jr. and Bob Duley.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Marguerite Tibbetts
Marguerite R. Tibbetts, 69, Joplin, died at 4 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at her home after an apparent heart attack.
Ms. Tibbetts was born June 9, 1927, in Joplin. She was a lifetime resident and was graduated from Joplin High School in 1945. She attended Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa. She retired in 1989 after 20 years as owner and operator of a Joplin day care. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ for Latter-day Saints, where, for more than 50 years, she taught Sunday school.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha E. Tibbetts, of the home; two sons, Jack H. Tibbetts, Arlington Heights, Ill., and Carl A. Tibbetts, Lorton, Va.; two brothers, Albert Troyer, Milton, Fla., and Clarence Troyer, Plainfield, Ill.; and three granddaughters.
The body has been taken for cremation.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ for Latter-day Saints. Lester Lay and Virgil E. Vaughn, ministers, will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
Bernice Campbell
MO. - Bernice L. Campbell, 94, Neosho, died at 8:11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997 at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Campbell was born May 21, 1902 in Alamogordo, N.M. She grew up in Joplin and attended Joplin schools. She moved to Pittsburg, Kan., and then to Stillwater, Okla., where she lived for 35 years. She moved to Neosho in 1963. She was an elevator operator for the former First National Bank and Frisco Building in Joplin. She was a swimming instructor and a Methodist.
She was married to E.L. "Irish" Campbell. He died Nov. 23, 1970.
Survivors include step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin. The Rev. J.K. Wright will officiate. Arrangements are under direction of Parker Mortuary.
Beeda Cloud
ROCKY COMFORT, Mo. - Beeda Mae Cloud, 70, Rocky Comfort, died at 11:36 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at Bates Memorial Hospital, Bentonville, Ark., after a short illness.
Mrs. Cloud was born April 27, 1926, in Powell. She was a lifetime Rocky Comfort area resident. She was a homemaker.
She married Carson Cloud on Dec. 19, 1942, in Cassville. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna June Mustain, Anderson; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The body has been cremated.
There are no services planned.
Friends may call at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wheaton Funeral Home.
Bob Cole
NEOSHO, Mo. - Bob Cole, 67, Goldendale, Wash., formerly of Neosho, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in a Goldendale hospital after an illness.
Mr. Cole was born Jan. 29, 1929, near Neosho. He was graduated from Midway School in Newton County. As a young man, he operated a dairy farm. The family moved to the state of Washington in 1957, where he worked as a warehouseman at the Ice Harbor and John Day dam projects.
He also worked several years during the initial construction of Martin Marietta, now Goldendale Aluminum. In 1963, he began a 32-year career with State Farm Insurance Co., earning recognition for sales and quality service until his retirement. In 1971 and 1975, he built two retail buildings in Goldendale.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, the Commandry, the Royal Arch Masons and the Order of Eastern Star, all of Goldendale.
He was a member of Goldendale United Methodist Church.
He married Rosalee Hubler in 1949 at Neosho. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Marilyn Muir, Rock Springs, Wyo.; a son, Michael Cole, Goldendale; a brother, Glenn Cole, Lamar; a sister, Neva Williams, Neosho; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Goldendale. The Rev. Ron Northrup will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's hospital for children or to United Methodist Church.
