Pat Monks
NEOSHO, Mo. - Pat D. Monks, 63, 12847 Oak Road, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after an illness.
Mrs. Monks was born Feb. 22, 1933, at Ardeola. She moved in 1993 to Neosho from the state of Idaho. She was a homemaker and a member of the Landmark United Pentecostal Church, Neosho.
She married Marvin Monks in 1967 in the state of Arizona. He survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Daniel Burgess, address unknown; a daughter, Linda, last name and address unknown; three brothers, Ralph Henson, Moses Lake, Wash., Lee Henson, Wenatchee, Wash., and Ray Henson, Pocatella, Idaho; a sister, Mae Villebrun, Noel; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday IOOF Cemetery at Newtonia. The Rev. Roger Koren will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Woodard-Freund-Thompson Funeral Home, Neosho.
Ida Thompson
ANDERSON, Mo. - Ida Belle Thompson, 77, Anderson, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Gravette (Ark.) Medical Center of an illness.
Mrs. Thompson was born Dec. 24, 1919, at Morrilton, Ark. She moved in 1935 to Anderson from the state of Oklahoma. She was a cook at a resort restaurant at Ginger Blue.
She married Gale Thompson on Jan. 3, 1938, at Lanagan. He died Feb. 9, 1992.
Survivors include a son, Tom Murphy, Anderson; two daughters, Barbara Martin, Anderson, and Margie Emery, Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Exciting Living Word Fellowship, an Anderson church. The Rev. Dale Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in Lanagan Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Ozark Funeral Home at Anderson, where family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Exciting Living Word Fellowship.
William Mathews
SENECA, Mo. - William F. Mathews, 73, Raymore, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, at a Raymore area nursing home, after a long illness. He was the brother of Willis Mathews, a Seneca resident.
Mr. Mathews was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Rabbit, Okla. He was a longtime Kansas City-area resident, having lived there for 46 years. He had been the owner and operator of a Kerr-McGee Services Station in Kansas City.
He was the member of the Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Ararat Shrine Temple.
His wife, Betty Mathews, survives. Additional survivors include a daughter, Shelia Mathews, Grandview; a brother, Willis Mathews, Seneca; two sisters, Nadine McGinty, Miami, Okla., and Ruby Karsten, Mesa, Ariz.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the GAR Cemetery, Miami.
Graveside services are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Park Lawn Chapel, Kansas City.
Opal Cragin
Opal Hidden "Opie" Cragin, 87, 1421 Crestwood Dr., Joplin, died at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, at Freeman Hospital East after a long illness.
Mrs. Cragin was born May 17, 1909, at Murrayville, Ill. For a short time she lived in St. Louis, working as a secretary. She was a Joplin resident from 1948 until her husband's death in 1976, after which she moved to the John Knox Village in Lee's Summit. While living in the John Knox Village, she attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
She returned to Joplin on Dec. 15, 1996, where she was hospitalized until her death.
She attended Community Church, Joplin. She was a volunteer worker for the Joplin Community Concerts Association.
She married John Harold Cragin on Sept. 4, 1948, at St. Louis. He died Dec. 10, 1976.
Survivors include a stepson, John M. Cragin, Joplin; two stepdaughters, Betty Cragin Eckhart, Sarcoxie, and Lynn Cragin Prescott, Palo Alto, Calif.; a brother, Ralph Hidden, Peoria, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The body will be cremated.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City. The Rev. Robert Stinnett will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
Contributions may be made to St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Joplin.
Percy LaSalle
Percy LaSalle, 87, Arroyo Grande, Calif., formerly of Joplin, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at his home after an illness.
Mr. LaSalle was born Sept. 2, 1909, at Carrington, N.D. He grew up at Medora, N.D., and had lived in Joplin before moving in 1987 to Arroyo Grande. He owned and operated a welding machine shop and was involved with construction welding for many years. He was a member of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Joplin.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie LaSalle; three sons, Alan LaSalle, Arroyo Grande, Stephen LaSalle, Atascadero, Calif., and Brian LaSalle, Huntington Beach, Calif.; a brother, LeRoy LaSalle, Joplin; and a sister, Marion Doty, Waco, Mo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary. Virgil Vaughn, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Contributions may be made to Joplin Humane Society.
Marie Tedlock
Marie Tedlock, 88, Joplin, formerly of Columbus, Kan., died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Tedlock was born Feb. 18, 1908, at Ganado, Texas. She was a seamstress and a homemaker. She moved in 1920 to Columbus, where she lived most of her life. She had lived in Joplin about a month.
She married Glen Tedlock on Aug. 25, 1926, at Oswego, Kan. He died Sept. 4, 1962.
Survivors include a son, Donald Ray Tedlock Sr., Columbus; a sister, Nellie Hosp, Joplin; a brother, Arthur Thompson Sr., Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenlawn Cemetery, southwest of Columbus. The Rev. Garland Bohn will officiate.
Friends may call any time at Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus.
T.J. Anderson
CARTHAGE, Mo. - Thomas "T.J." Anderson, 68, Carthage, died at 1:13 p.m., Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, after a short illness.
Mr. Anderson was born March 4, 1928, at Jane. He had lived in the Carthage area since 1952. He had worked at the Eagle-Picher mines, in the state of Kansas, and had been the owner and operator for 12 years of Anderson Refuse in Carthage.
He worked 33 years for what is now ICI Explosives, retiring in 1986. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He married Lucille Le Gore on Nov. 10, 1945, at Anderson. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Tom Anderson, Carthage; three daughters, Sheryl McKelvy, Tulsa, Okla., and Dixie Vacca and Sue Barton, both of Carthage; a brother, John Anderson, Joplin; a sister, Mae Boston, Goodman; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage. Boyce Mouton, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
Pallbearers will be Brent Hensley, Darin Alumbaugh, Rusty Snyder, Lewis Amato, Mike Powelson, Brad Anderson, Ryan Cooper and Wesley Hunt.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
