Lois Pigg
Lois L. Pigg, 87, 1317 Starlight Drive, died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997 at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
Mrs. Pigg was born July 17, 1909 in Joplin. She was a longtime Joplin resident. She was graduated from what is now Pittsburg (Kan.) State University and for 32 years was a school teacher in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. She was of the Christian faith.
Her husband, Thomas Pigg, died in August 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwynneth Mlle Sharron, Middle Island, N.Y., and one grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ozark Memorial Park cemetery. The Rev. John Pigg will officiate. Burial will follow under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the mortuary.
Opal Ashens
CASSVILLE, Mo. - Opal Ruby Ashens, 92, Cassville, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at a Rogers, Ark., nursing center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Ashens was born Sept. 27, 1904, at Butterfield, Mo. She was a homemaker and a resident of Cassville for more than 20 years. She attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Cassville. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Mayapple Chapter No. 347 in Cherryvale, Kan. That chapter was later consolidated with Eva Chapter No. 18 in Independence, Kan., where she was granted a lifetime membership.
She married Earnest Henry Ashens on June 21, 1926 at Cassville, Mo. He died June 23, 1953.
Survivors include a sister, Gerthie Wheeler, Butterfield.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 1997 at the IOOF Cemetery in Aurora. The Rev. Paul Yarnall will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville, where members of the Order of the Eastern Star Celestia Chapter No. 81 of Cassville will conduct services at 6:30 p.m.
Curtis Thomas
CASSVILLE, Mo. - Curtis Aubrey Thomas, 92, Cassville, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at his home after a short illness.
Mr. Thomas was born Nov. 14, 1904, at Cassville. He attended schools in Barry and Newton counties and worked at the Ford Motor Co. assembly plant in Kansas City before he returned to Barry County. He farmed near Washburn until 1942. He moved to Cassville in 1952 and owned and managed an apartment house. He served on the board of trustees for Barry Electric Cooperative and KAMO Electric Cooperative. He was a member of Pythagoras Lodge No. 383, A.F. & A.M., in Cassville, the Masonic Lodge, and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple.
He married Melvina "Mellie" Graham on March 18, 1926, at Cassville. She died April 23, 1977.
A son and daughter also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Larry Pat Thomas, Newcastle, Ind.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville. The Rev. Bob Neeley will officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
Pallbearers will be Jim Bower, Jim Homesley, Rolland Meador, Joe Preddy, Bill Shiveley and Charles Thompson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kenneth McCormack
NEOSHO, Mo. - Kenneth R. McCormack, 52, 9445 Highway NN, Neosho, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a year of ill health.
Mr. McCormack was born Jan. 6, 1945 in Cassville. He was graduated in 1963 from Cassville High School. He moved to the Spurgeon community, north of Neosho, 10 years ago from Memphis, Tenn. He was employed nine years with FAG Bearing Co., Joplin, and previously was a supervisor with Mohawk Tire Co. in Memphis. He married Diana Clements on April 1, 1994, in Miami, Okla. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Melony Kim, Cordova, Tenn.; two sons, Keith McCormack, North Memphis, Tenn., and Roger McCormack, Tulsa, Okla; two stepsons, Ron Clements, Mineral Point, and Matthew Clements, of the home; his father, Andy McCormack, the Spurgeon community; a sister, Andrea Luney, Crown Point, Ind., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City, with John Mitchell and Gary Reed, ministers, officiating. Burial will be at Webb City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Hoagland, Larry Spencer, Charlie Gray, Jerry Howard, Gale Tyler, Ronnie Boyd, Johnny Boyd and Larry Muse.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Allen Morgan
NOEL, Mo. - Allen Joe Morgan, 48, Sulphur Springs, Ark., died at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at Gravette Medical Center, Gravette, Ark., after an illness. A surviving son, J.R. Morgan, lives in Noel.
Mr. Morgan was born May 4, 1948, at Sulphur Springs. He lived in the Sulphur Springs area most of his life.
He was a laborer.
He was a 32nd degree Mason at Southwest City. He was a board member of Butler Creek Cemetery, Sulphur Springs, for more than 20 years.
Survivors include a son, J.R. Morgan, Noel; a daughter, Tammy Beal, Southwest City; two sisters, Virginia Foster, Rogers, Ark., and Gladys Duffy, New Caney, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Butler Creek Cemetery, Sulphur Springs, with the Rev. Gary Swink officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Funeral Home, Noel.
John Mulkey
NEOSHO, Mo. - John Wesley Mulkey, 77, 1015 S. Neosho Blvd., died at 12:24 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Mulkey was born Oct. 27, 1919, at Monett, and was a lifelong resident of the Neosho area.
He had worked for Meek's Lumber, Neosho, for many years until he retired in 1982. He later worked part time for T.H. Lumber Co., Neosho. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and American Legion Post No. 163 in Neosho.
He married Nadine Morris on April 9, 1939, at Cassville. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, John W. Mulkey, Carthage, and William M. (Bill) Mulkey, Neosho; two daughters, Barbara Kruambeck, Neosho, and Myra Koeneke, Grove, Okla.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Rev. Todd Decker will officiate under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
Iris Reaves
CARTHAGE, Mo. - Mrs. Iris W. Reaves, 90, 1124 Clinton St., died at 11:09 p.m. Wednesday at McCune-Brooks Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Reaves was born Feb. 6, 1906, in Oklahoma. She lived in Carthage before she moved to Oakland, Calif., where she and her husband lived for many years. After his retirement, they moved to Thomas, Okla. She moved to Carthage in 1985 to live with a niece, Mrs. Helen Woods.
She married Paul Reaves on June 3, 1931, in Carthage. He died Dec. 24, 1979.
Survivors include two sisters, Alma Steen, Watonga, Okla., and Edna Zentner, Joplin.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mound Valley Cemetery, Thomas, Okla., under the direction of Knell Mortuary.
Contributions may be made to the Cardinal Class Hospital Equipment Fund at First Christian Church.
