John Robinson
HORTON, Mo. - John Raymond Robinson, 77, Horton, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after an illness.
Mr. Robinson was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Badger Township in Vernon County. He attended school in Badger Township. He lived in Bates County and in Iowa before returning to Vernon County.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving four years in the European Theater He farmed in the Horton area until he retired in 1984. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Elks Lodge, both at Nevada.
He married Betty Jo Dicks on June 17, 1950, at Nevada. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Jo Ed Jones and Paula Gayle Edmonds, both of Nevada; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Keith Mackey officiating. Burial will be in Newton Burial Park, Nevada.
Friends may call until 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Nevada, or to the Nevada High School Scholarship Fund.
Velda Sheer
SOUTHWEST CITY, Mo. - Velda Louise Sheer, 77, Shoshone, Idaho, a Southwest City native, died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, Twin Falls, Idaho, of injuries she suffered Oct. 17 in a traffic accident.
Mrs. Sheer was born Feb. 2, 1919, in Southwest City. She was a homemaker. She and her husband were ranchers and were members of the Magic Grange for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the Magic Grange Homemakers Club.
She married Edmund Carl Sheer on Feb. 3, 1945, at Jerome, Idaho. He survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Alice Carlene, Shoshone; a sister, Etta Mae Clark, Wichita, Kan.; and a brother, Ralph D. Moore, Southwest City.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Shoshone (Idaho) Baptist Church. Virgil Cozad will officiate. Burial will be in Shoshone Cemetery.
Arrangements are under direction of Demeray's-Bergin Funeral Home, Shoshone.
James Walker
NEVADA, Mo. - James Dean Walker, 66, Nevada, died at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, after a long illness.
Mr. Walker was born June 24, 1930, at St. Paul, Kan. He graduated from Wichita (Kan.) State University in 1955. He worked many years in the mental-health field. He moved to Nevada in 1981 and became superintendent of Nevada Rehabilitation Center, retiring in 1993.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada.
He married Ann Graham Walker on Aug. 28, 1954. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, James Walker Jr., Kansas City; two daughters, Julie Paradise, Kansas City, and Jean Walp, Denver, Colo.; his mother, Eva Walker, St. Paul; two brothers, Mike Walker, Detroit, Mich., and Jerry Walker, Princeton Junction, N.J.; a sister, Mary Ann Daugherty, Olpe, Kan.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada. The Rev. James Schrader will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul (Kan.) Cemetery.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
Contributions may be made to St. Mary's School, Nevada.
Ruth Winkelman
NEOSHO, Mo. - Ruth E. Winkelman, 74, Neosho, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Winkelman was born April 20, 1922, at Peabody, Kan. She moved to Neosho 14 years ago from Kansas City. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Ivan Winkelman; three daughters, Carol Hamilton, Seattle, Wash., Claudia Toback, Warsaw, and Paula DeCillis, Cupertino, Calif.; a son, Eldon Winkelman, Carl Junction; three brothers, Bill Turner, Atchison, Kan., and Robert Turner and Albert Turner, both of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Mamie Domann, Atchison, and Betty Winn, Mesa; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. The Rev. Ralph Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Ragen Cemetery, west of Neosho.
Mary Clanton
Mary Clanton, 60, Joplin, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident at noon Thursday north of Pineville.
Mrs. Clanton was born Oct. 4, 1936, at Waco. She had moved to Joplin in 1964 from Baxter Springs, Kan. She was graduated in 1954 from Carl Junction (Mo.) High School and was graduated from the former St. John's Nursing School in Joplin.
She was a registered nurse. She worked at Baxter Memorial Hospital, Baxter Springs, from 1959 to 1965, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin from 1966 to 1989, and for Oxford Home Health Care from 1989 to 1994. She worked for Regency Home Health Care at Miami, Okla., the past three years.
She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Joplin, and the Joplin and Neosho chapters of Take Off Pounds Sensibly.
She married Weldon Clanton on Aug. 11, 1961, at Miami, Okla. He survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, William Arthur Clanton, of the home, and Robert Earl Clanton, Conway; a brother, John Mitchel, Joplin; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Picher, Okla.
Vester Burton
LAMAR, Mo. - Vester A. Burton, 83, Lamar, died at 7:50 a.m. Friday, June 27, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Burton was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Dade County. He lived most of his life in the Maple Grove community in Jasper County. He worked for H.E. Williams, Carthage. He retired in 1963.
He attended Avilla Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He married Mildred Harris on Sept. 7, 1940, at Lockwood. She died on Nov. 10, 1991.
Survivors include four sons, Dale Burton, Avilla, Carl Burton, Carthage, Wayne Burton, Jericho Springs, and Rick Burton, Reeds; four daughters, Wanda Stump, Springfield, and Helen Osburn, Lois Duncan and Mary Jane Burton, all of Lamar; a brother, Edmon Burton, Golden City; a sister Katie Burton, Golden City; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper. Burial will be in Pennsboro Cemetery, near South Greenfield.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Vernon Dewitt
WASHBURN, Mo. - Vernon Leroy Dewitt, 72, Washburn, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 1997, at St. Mary Rogers Memorial Hospital, Rogers, Ark., after a long illness.
Mr. Dewitt was born Sept. 30, 1924, at Powell. He attended Roller School in Washburn and was graduated from Washburn High School. He lived 18 years in New Mexico where he worked in oil fields. He moved back to Missouri in 1969 and worked as a carpenter and farmer.
He was a member and deacon of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Washburn, and was a veteran of the Navy.
He married Betty Patterson on Sept. 30, 1946, at Cassville. She survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Verna Sue Burrows and Barbara Elkins, both of Yukon, Okla., and Patricia Roper, Springfield; a sister, Wanda Tipton, Stella; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Washburn. The Rev. Lawrence Shuey and the Rev. Charles Stults will officiate. Burial will be in Roller Cemetery, Washburn.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
