Mary Cahalan
PIERCE CITY, Mo. - Mary M. Cahalan, 99, Pierce City, died at 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at Cox Monett Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Cahalan was born April 3, 1897, at Pierce City. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Her husband, James Cahalan, died in 1972.
A son also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Vincent Cahalan and James Cahalan, both of Pierce City; a daughter, Agnes Kahre, Pierce City; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Dan Hirtz will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Pierce City.
Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. today at Wessell Funeral Home, Pierce City, where visitation will follow.
The body may be viewed from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
John Junkin
CARTHAGE, Mo. - John E. Junkin, 90, Carthage, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mr. Junkin was born June 11, 1906, at Mercer, Pa. He moved to Carthage in 1948. He was a graduate of Duke University and a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was a retired plant resident engineer for Hercules Powder Company, Joplin.
He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Carthage, and a charter member of Broadview Country Club, Carthage.
He married Emily "Dude" Price on Sept. 27, 1934, at New Castle, Pa. She died July 21, 1981.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter.
Survivors include a son, Bill Junkin, Tarzana, Calif.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Carthage. The Rev. Timothy Loc will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Sam Morrow, Joe Morrow, Ernie Heisten, Pat Phelps, Robert Locarni and Lang Rogers.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ulmer Funeral Home.
Contributions may be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
Barbara Meadows
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Barbara Ann Meadows, 58, 122 N. Ball St., died at 11:23 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness.
Mrs. Meadows was born Feb. 8, 1938, at Pumpkin Center, Okla. She graduated in 1969 from Northeast Oklahoma A&M; College, Miami, Okla., and with a master's degree in 1987 from Pittsburg (Kan.) State University. She taught biology at Webb City High School from 1969 to 1995. She had taught at Drury College, Springfield.
She was a member of First Congregational Church at Neosho, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Missouri State Teachers Association, National Science Group and National Guard Foundation Support Group.
She married Charles Meadows on March 14, 1970. He survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Keith Addison, Copan, Okla.; three daughters, Jessica Meadows, Webb City, Lee Ann Fleming, Carthage, and Teresa Harper, Vadnais Heights, Minn.; her mother, Lorraine Baird, Webb City; a brother, Jerry Baird, Sand Springs, Okla.; a sister, Patty Thorne, Neosho; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Church of Oronogo. Kent Williams, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Woolsey, Bob Brown, Jerry Walker, Gary Garvey, Larry Sweet and Hank Douglas.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.

Vera Sitze
LAMAR, Mo. - Vera N. Salow Sitze, 85, Cedar Hill, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at a Cedar Hill nursing home of natural causes. A brother, Earl Salow, Lamar, survives.
Mrs. Sitze was born April 20, 1911, in the country of Canada. She was a homemaker.
She married Edward C. Sitze on Feb. 6, 1944. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, Ron "Palette" Sitze, High Ridge.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Dudenville Cemetery, Dudenville, with the Rev. Cliff Crockett officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary, Cedar Hill.
Jack Solomon
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Graveside services for L.A. "Jack" Solomon, 86, 1515 S. Jefferson, St., who died Friday, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City.
Randy L. Wilson, minster, will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City.
Benjamin Thurman
NEOSHO, Mo. - Benjamin F. Thurman, 89, rural Neosho, died at 7:54 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Thurman was born Oct. 25, 1907, at Joplin. He had lived in the Neosho and Racine areas most of his life. He was a retired auto mechanic.
Survivors include a brother, Edward Thurman, rural Neosho.
The body has been taken for cremation.
Arrangements are pending with Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca.
Patricia White
ANDERSON, Mo. - Patricia M. White, 73, Borger, Texas, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, at St. Anthony's Hospice, Amarillo, Texas, after an illness. She was the mother of Shelley Smith, Anderson.
Mrs. White was born Oct. 11, 1923, at Lawton, Okla. She had lived in Borger for 68 years.
She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Borger. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and a volunteer at Golden Plains Community Hospital.
She married W.C. White on April 20, 1985, at Borger. He survives.
Additional survivors include a son, William C. White Jr., Borger; six daughters, Shannon Baldwin, Comanche, Okla., Nona White, Amarillo, Cecile Clendennen, Melba White and Pat Tracy, all of Borger, and Yvonne Blue, Dumas, Texas; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Sam B. Hulsey will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Borger, under the direction of Brown Funeral Directors, Borger.
