Loreina Flaker
LIBERAL, Mo. - Loreina May Flaker, 73, 672 South Missouri 43, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 1997, at Mount Carmel Medical Center, Pittsburg, Kan., after a long illness.
Miss Flaker was born April 2, 1924, at Nashville, Mo. She was a house cleaner and had worked 2½ years in the Mount Carmel Medical Center's laundry department.
Survivors include a sister, Ruby Flaker, Liberal.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nashville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry Garfield will officiate. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weng Funeral Chapel at Jasper.
Barbara Lang
NOEL, Mo. - Barbara Lang, 74, Route 1 Noel, died at 1:10 a.m. Friday, May 23, 1997, at an Anderson nursing home after a seven-month illness.
Mrs. Lang was born July 11, 1922, at Los Angeles, Calif. She moved to Noel in 1977 from California. She was a homemaker and had worked at Hudson Foods in Noel for seven years, approximately 1980 to 1987.
She is survived by a son, John Gary Cox, Searcy, Ark; two daughters, Cecilia Maralice Roundtree, Aurora, Colo., and Melissa Lee Pogue, Noel; two brothers, Richard L. Shuey, Ventura, Calif., and Cecil M. Shuey, Grass Valley, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Gravesides services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Valley Cemetery, Anderson.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Ozark Funeral Home, Noel.
Doyle Shields
ANDERSON, Mo. - Doyle Harold Shields, 74, Route. 1 Anderson, died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 1997, at a Neosho nursing home of lung cancer.
Mr. Shields was born Dec. 18, 1922 at Butler, Okla. He lived in the McDonald County area most of his life. He graduated from Pineville High School in 1940. He was a licensed general contractor.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as an aircraft mechanic.
He married Marjorie Dell Caldwell on May 1, 1945, at Houston, Texas. She died Dec. 16, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Harold Gene Shields, San Antonio, Texas; three daughters, Mary Lou Liskey, Noel, Martha Anne Ladd, Carterville, and Betsy Haneline, Granby; a sister, Donice Brashear, Ozark; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderson cemetery, with Tom Ellis, pastor, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ozark Funeral Home, Anderson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Crowder College Scholarship Fund for Building Trades Students in care of the funeral home.
Bessie Wolfe
GOLDEN CITY, Mo. - Bessie May Wolfe, 89, Wichita, Kan., formerly of Golden City, died at 3:52 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 1997, at Riverside Hospital, Wichita, after a long illness.
Mrs. Wolfe was born Feb. 21, 1908, at Round Grove. She grew up and lived at the Lockwood and Golden City areas, moving in 1947 to Wichita. She was a member of the Christian Church at Haysville, Kan.., and the Rebekah Lodge, Golden City.
She married James Merle "Happy" Wolfe on Jan. 4, 1930, at Greenfield. He survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Don Wesley Wolfe, Colorado Springs, Colo., Darius Lee Wolfe, McAllen, Texas, and Dennis Joe Wolfe, Oroville, Calif.; a daughter, Dorothy Mae Hudson, Springfield; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Golden City. The Rev. Carl Shearer will officiate. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Golden City.
Pallbearers will be Alan O'Brien, Harold Hutton, Leroy Hutton, Gary Little, Harley Hutton and Bruce Conrad.
Contributions may be made to the Rebekah Lodge, Golden City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pugh Funeral Home, Golden City.
Ada Bowles
Ada M. Bowles, 100, Joplin, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 1997, at a Joplin nursing home after a long illness. Mrs. Bowles was born June 25, 1896, in Jasper County. She was a lifetime area resident. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Lee Bowles, preceded her in death.
There are no immediate survivors.
Private graveside services will be today at Fairview Cemetery, Joplin, with the Rev. Bob Simon officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
Harold Davison Sr.
Harold R. Davison Sr., 88, 502 McConnel Ave., died at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Davison was born Oct. 1, 1908, at Reeds Springs, Mo., and was a lifetime resident of Joplin and Carthage. He retired from Vicker's, Inc., on Oct. 1, 1973, after 21 years of service. He was a Baptist and a former member of the American Bowling Congress.
During World War II he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operations.
He married Alma F. Young on March 7, 1942, at Joplin. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Harold R. "Dee" Davison Jr., Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary, with the Rev. Charlie Burnett officiating. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roy Dalton, Bill Todhunter, Walter Stehm, Nick Nichols, Noel Drake and Leonard Brewer.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
Contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice.
Diane Houk
Mary "Diane" Houk, 48, rural Joplin, died at 12:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, 1997, at her home after a long illness.
Ms. Houk was born Oct. 29, 1948, at Weiser, Idaho.
She had lived in Joplin for 30 years.
She graduated from Stapps Beauty School, Joplin, and was a hairdresser at Dazzle.
She was a Christian.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Marie Allen, Diamond, Susie McDowell, Joplin, and Sandy Vandorpin, Yank, S.D.; and 12 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Ed Hahn, minister, will officiate.
