Harold Phipps
Lewis Harold Phipps, 79, Joplin, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Phipps was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Joplin and was a lifetime resident. He worked for the Federal Civil Services from 1954 until retiring in 1970. He was a member of Villa Heights Christian Church. He was a lifetime member and past member of the Moose Lodge, Fairbanks, Alaska. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 187 AF&AM;, Grove, Okla., and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley, Tulsa, Okla. He was also a member of the Nile Temple, Seattle, Wash.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 24th Infantry Division.
He married Imogene Hawks on June 1, 1937, in Joplin. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Gordon Phipps, Garden Grove, Calif.; three sisters, Irna King and Opal Elsey, both of Joplin, and Glenda Shepherd, Rose Hills, Kan.; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
The body has been cremated. No formal services are planned.

Claudie Riggs
Claudie E. Riggs, 60, St. Charles, a Joplin native, died at 6:12 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at DePaul Health Care Center, a Bridgeton hospital, after an illness.
Mr. Riggs was born Sept. 10, 1936, at Joplin. He was a 1954 Joplin High School graduate. He was a transportation agent for 40 years for Northwest Airlines at St. Louis.
He married Bessie Greninger on March 9, 1957, at Miami, Okla. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Debra Walsh, Eagan, Minn., and Lisa Korner, Tulsa, Okla.; a son, Kevin E. Riggs, St. Charles; his mother, Lucille Riggs, Joplin; and four granddaughters.
Services will be 1 p.m. today Sun at Baue Funeral Home, St. Charles. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Cemetery at Carthage.
Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Carl Batterman
MONETT, Mo. - Carl "Henry" Batterman, 88, 712 Scott St., died at 8:33 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Batterman was born June 12, 1909, at Oldenburg, Germany. He had lived since 1952 in the Monett area. He was a farmer from 1952-1964. Then he worked as a machinist for Well's Aluminum, Monett, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Monett. He was an active member of the Monett Senior Citizens Center.
He married Martha C. Busing on April 12, 1936, at Yuma, Colo. She died April 23, 1976.
Surviving are a son, Dean Batterman, Fairport, N.Y.; a daughter, Ella Mae Sprick, Ballwin; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Monett. The Rev. Mart Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in McCormick-St. John's Cemetery, Monett.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
Contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Monett Senior Citizens Center.
Buck Caudell
NEOSHO, Mo. - Arlie B. "Buck" Caudell, 80, Neosho, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at his home after an illness.
Mr. Caudell was born March 7, 1917, in Buffalo, Kan. He worked in a brick yard in Buffalo and then worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Kansas. He began construction of homes in California in 1939, continuing to work there for three years. He then was Superintendent of Building of Naval Bases in Norfolk, Va.
He moved to Wichita, Kan., in 1945 and continued in the construction business, building apartment complexes and homes. He moved to Neosho in 1957 and developed the Greenwood housing addition. In 1960, he entered the mobile home construction business, establishing Ozark Mobile Homes. In the early 1990s he leased warehouse space to Sunbeam Leisure Products and later assumed operation of bagging lava rock for Sunbeam until the present.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Neosho, in charge of ushering for church services for 25 years.
He married Ida F. Kraft on Jan. 20, 1939, in Emporia, Kan. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Ronald K. Caudell, Plantation, Fla.; two daughters, Peggy L. Lester, Claremore, Okla., and Norma J. Sanderson, Joplin; a brother, Bill Caudell, Iola, Kan.; a sister, Ivy Bell Audiss, Yates Center, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Neosho, with the Rev. Todd Decker officiating. Burial will be in Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dale Palmer, Knowles Myers, Marion Bell, Homer Sturdevant, Ray Sanderson and Carl Ledbetter.
Friends may call after noon today at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Neosho, in care of the funeral home.
Frances Dell
CASSVILLE, Mo. - Frances Imogene Dell, 67, Cassville, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Gene Easley, Garfield, Ark., and Michael Edward Easley, Rogers, Ark.; two daughters, Karen Sue Cristee, Rogers, and Brenda Kay Vinson, Springdale, Ark.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Peterson, Willard, Mo.; two brothers, Delmur Neeley, Klamath Falls, Ore., and David Neeley, Cowra, Australia; two sisters, Kay Becannon, Seattle, Wash., and Karen Rodgers, Klamath Falls; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
Mae Lingenfelter
CARTHAGE, Mo. - Mae G. Lingenfelter, 74, Carthage, died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Lingenfelter was born March 31, 1923, at Phillipsburg. She was a lifetime Carthage-area resident and homemaker. She was a member of the First Assembly of God church, Carthage.
She married Willard Lingenfelter on Nov. 2, 1944, at Buffalo. He survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, James Lingenfelter, Springfield, Steve Lingenfelter and Mike Lingenfelter, both of Carthage; three daughters, Marie Thiessen, Mary Frances Jennings and April Lybarger, all of Carthage; four sisters, Edna Maggard, Grace Pinkley and Dorothy Patrick, all of Carthage, and Rosie Evans, Buffalo; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God, Carthage, with the Rev. Jimmie Hinson and the Rev. James Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Jasper Cemetery, east of Carthage.
Pallbearers will be Randy Adams, Kevin Adams, Tony Lingenfelter, Terry Lingenfelter, Timothy Patrick, Bob Pinkley, Darrell Patrick and George Pinkley.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage.

Charles Boggs Sr.
Charles E. Boggs Sr., 58, Joplin, died at 6:48 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after an illness.
Mr. Boggs was born Jan. 11, 1939, at Page, W.Va. He moved from Harrison, Ark., to Joplin seven years ago. He was a truck driver, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Survivors include a son, Charles E. Boggs Jr., Eureka Springs, Ark.; a daughter, Becky Hyman, Carl Junction; three sisters, Zelda Hockaday, Sidney, Ohio, and Barbara Bloomfield and Rayma Forrest, both of Sacramento, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, Joplin. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Forest Park Cemetery, Joplin.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
