Tammy Shellenbarger
LA RUSSELL, Mo. - Tammy Shellenbarger, 27, La Russell route 1, died at 11:22 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at the University of Louisville (Ky.) Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Shellenbarger was born Oct. 30, 1969, at Kansas City.
She lived most of her life in the La Russell and Carthage areas.
She worked at Coolbrook Cabinet Co. at Avilla.
She was a homemaker and a member of Blake Baptist Church, Avilla.
She married David Shellenbarger on Jan. 6, 1986, at Springfield. He survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Laura Shellenbarger, Kylie Shellenbarger and Chelsy Shellenbarger, all of the home; her father and stepmother, Ronnie and Janie Johnston, Kansas City; her mother, Cindy Smitty Johnston, Sedalia; three brothers, Ronnie Johnston, Kansas City, and Robert Beck and Gene Beck, both of Sedalia; two sisters, Tara Johnston and Jessica Beck, both of Sedalia; and a maternal grandmother, Teresa Elliott, Lincoln.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage.
The Rev. Roy Moody and Reuben Smith will officiate.
Burial will be in Stone Cemetery, south of Carthage.
Pallbearers will be Elgin Dailey, Robert Dailey, Robert Beck, Greg Summers, Dee Haws and Jack Ball.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Family will be at the home of Robert and Karen Dailey in La Russell.
Mabel Slates
SHELDON, Mo. - Mabel Slates, 92, Sheldon, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at St. Luke's Northland Hospital, Kansas City, after a long illness.
Mrs. Slates was born April 4, 1904, in Lamar.
She resided in Lamar while she attended school.
She moved in 1922 to Sheldon, where she was a homemaker.
She married Carl Slates in September 1920 at Lamar. He died in 1986.
Two sons and a daughter also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Slates, Sheldon, and Charles Slates, Carthage; two daughters, Lois Schonewetter, Smithville, and Martha Livick, Lindsay, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home, Sheldon.
Ray Crews, minister, will officiate.
Burial will be in Sheldon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Herman Wilson
ORONOGO, Mo. - Herman L. Wilson, 46, 311 James St., Oronogo, died at 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at his home after a sudden illness.
Mr. Wilson was born May 31, 1950, in Webb City.
He worked for B & D Construction Co., Joplin.
He was graduated from Webb City High School in 1968.
He was a member of the Missouri National Guard.
He was a Baptist.
Survivors include a son, Derrick Wilson, Joplin; a daughter, Roseanna Wilson, Joplin; his mother, Ann Wilson, Oronogo; a brother, Bob Wilson, Carthage; and his maternal grandmother, Fern McKlesky, Webb City.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Oronogo Cemetery.
The Rev. Allan Patterson will officiate.
He was found dead at his home around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators concluded he died of natural causes.
The casket will be closed at all times.
Arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.
Iva Bailey
Iva M. Bailey, 89, Joplin, died at 5:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, at the home of her daughter after two years of ill health.
Mrs. Bailey was born Aug. 25, 1907, in Newton County.
She was raised in Newton County and moved to the Joplin area 70 years ago.
She was a homemaker and a member of Leawood Church of Christ.
She married William V. Bailey on Nov. 7, 1926. He died in 1948.
A son also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie Stockam, 6092 Gateway Drive, south of Joplin; a sister, Fern Fields, Joplin; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary.
Oscar Morris and Ron Lankford will officiate.
Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Stockam, Steve Stockam, Jimmy C. Stockam, Scott Stockam, Bob Fields and Chester VanDorn.
Kathy Ferguson
Kathy L. Ferguson, 45, 203 Porter Ave., died at 7:41 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after suffering an apparent heart attack at her home.
Mrs. Ferguson was born Jan. 22, 1952, at Claremore, Okla.
She had lived in Joplin throughout her life.
Survivors include a a brother, William Glover, Hickory Grove, Okla.; and two sisters, Joyce Harris and Nancy Miller, Coffeyville, Kan.
The body has been cremated.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Osborne Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
The Rev. Larry Six will officiate.
Dorothy Matistic
Dorothy Nell Matistic, 71, Lubbock, Texas, a former Joplin resident, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 1997, at her home after an illness.
Mrs. Matistic was born Jan. 26, 1926, at Roswell, N.M.
She lived in Lubbock most of her life.
She had lived in Joplin for 15 years before returning to Lubbock in 1974.
She was a charter member of Genesis Baptist Fellowship and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She married Arthur A. Matistic on Oct. 3, 1941, at Clovis, N.M.
He died June 3, 1974.
Survivors include a son, Arthur Joe Matistic, Joplin; a daughter, Patricia Matistic Fulks, Spring, Texas; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home, Lubbock.
The Rev. Roger L. Garrett will officiate.
Burial will be in the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
Marion Moffet
Marion O. Moffet, 91, 1717 W. B St., died at 10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Moffet was born Aug. 28, 1905, in the Grand Falls community, south of Joplin. He was a lifetime Joplin resident.
He was a member of one of the pioneer families of Joplin that Moffet Avenue was named after.
He worked in the chemicals division at Eagle-Picher Industries in Joplin for 43 years, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of Villa Heights Christian Church, Joplin.
He was a former member of A-TA Lodge at Saginaw, Joplin Eagles Lodge No. 2410 and Isaac Walton League of Joplin.
He was a bee keeper most of his life.
He married Freda Williams on Jan. 22, 1927, at Columbus, Kan. She died Nov. 4, 1978.
He married Opal Gandy Reynolds on Sept. 15, 1979, at Joplin. She died Sept. 29, 1984.
Survivors include a son, Marion O. Moffet Jr., 308 N. McCoy Ave.; two daughters, June Smith, Joplin route 3, and Virginia Bassett, Joplin; a sister, Christina Claypool, Osburn, Idaho; a brother, Raymond Moffet, Joplin; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary. Chet Shaw, minister, will officiate.
Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jay Wilson, Kenneth Kiser, Bob Guarino, Paul Welch, Chuck Whorlow, Ted Sawyer, Jim Boman and Bill Meyer.
The family will be at the home.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Contributions may be made to Villa Heights Christian Church or St. John's Hospice, in care of the mortuary.
