George Gooch
George Edward Gooch, 75, 3400 N. Range Line, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at his residence after an illness.
Mr. Gooch was born Jan. 5, 1922, at Joplin. He was a 1940 graduate of Joplin High School. He attended Joplin Junior College for a year.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was the former owner of the 509 Liquor Store and Ace Vaughn Locks and Keys.
Survivors include four daughters, George-Ann Gooch and Kelly Storrs, both of Neosho, Caroline Stratton, Depoe Bay, Ore., and Karin Stratton, Latham, N.Y.; a brother, Warne Gooch, Barnstable, Mass.; a sister, Rosemary Stone, Webb City; and eight grandchildren.
The body has been cremated.
A private, graveside memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City, with the Rev. William Christman officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin.
Contributions may be made to the St. John's Regional Medical Center Hospice Program.
Earl McKibben
Arthur Earl McKibben, 86, 201 Wall Ave., died at 9:55 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 21, 1910, at Webb City. He had lived in this area most of his life.
He was a maintenance worker for ICI Explosives, Joplin, retiring after 37 years.
He was a member of Frisco Church, Webb City. He was a member of the Carterville Masonic Lodge.
He married Nona Gladden on Dec. 23, 1939, at Joplin. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, David McKibben, Joplin, Jack McKibben, Webb City, Gene McKibben, St. Charles, and Jerry McKibben, Greensboro, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Frisco Church, with the Rev. Steve Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be in Carterville Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. today until the time of the service.
Faye Ball
CASSVILLE, Mo. - Faye E. Ball, 79, Cassville, died at 3:13 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, after a long illness.
Mrs. Ball was born Dec. 15, 1917, at Eagle Rock. She attended Roaring River and Eagle Rock schools. She worked as a clerk at the MFA Exchange, Cassville, for a few years. She and her husband later owned and operated a country store for five years at Eagle Rock. She was a member of Roaring River Baptist Church, Eagle Rock.
She married Oman F. Ball on Aug. 21, 1937, at Klamath Falls, Ore. He died July 3, 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Darla Marbut and Myrla Hinds, both of Cassville; a sister, Norma Gari, Carmichael, Calif.; a half sister, Jessie Dale Saville, Neosho; two grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. The Rev. Paul Yarnall will officiate. Burial will be in Horner Cemetery, Cassville.
Ted Koontz
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. - Ted Koontz, 86, Hume, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in an Ozark nursing home after an illness. A surviving daughter, Anna Kaye Hill, lives in Carl Junction.
Mr. Koontz was born Sept. 20, 1910, at Ballard. He moved to Butler, where he was graduated from high school in 1929. He worked in several drug stores in Butler and Kansas City. He opened a Phillips 66 service station in 1941 in Butler. He opened a Rexall Drug Store in 1952 in Hume. He retired in 1985.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion and was a president of the Hume Chamber of Commerce for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Edith; a son, Teddy Koontz, Ozark; another daughter, Phyllis G. McCulley, Pineville; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler. Brother Randy Wells will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the restoration of Butler High School or to McGennis Youth Center.
Beatrice O'Toole
NEVADA, Mo. - Beatrice V. O'Toole, 89, 921 W. Arch St., died at 4:41 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at a Nevada nursing home where she had been a resident since earlier this month.
Mrs. O'Toole was born Oct. 15, 1907, in Moundville. She was a life-long Vernon County resident, and moved to Nevada in 1954. She was co-owner of the Dairy Queen in Nevada, and also had worked at Moore's Department Store and Cottey College, both in Nevada. She was a member of the Moundville United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Verne O'Toole, preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1953.
She is survived by a son, Larry L. O'Toole, Nevada; a daughter, Pat Chrisenberry, Nevada; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Milster Funeral Home chapel in Nevada. The Rev. John Nichols will officiate. Burial will be at Newton Burial Park Cemetery, Nevada.
Contributions may be made to the Moundville United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Orville Robbins
AURORA, Mo. - Orville L. Robbins, 87, Aurora, died at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at the Aurora Community Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Robbins was born Oct. 25, 1909, in Barry County. He lived most of his life in northern Barry County and for the past 15 years in Aurora.
He worked for 20 years for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office, Cassville. He was a retired cattleman.
He was a member of the Aurora Fundamental Methodist Church.
He married Helen Vincent on Oct. 3, 1931, at Galena, Mo. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Wayne Robbins, Marionville; two daughters, Allene Fulp and Carolyn Henson, both of Verona; a sister, Wilma Wilkin, Aurora; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora, with the Rev. Jerry Nickle and the Rev. Harold Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Velma Rose
WASHBURN, Mo. - Velma I. Rose, 84, Washburn, died at 5:48 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, after an illness.
Mrs. Rose was born Sept. 20, 1912, at Washburn. She attended Wheaton and Star Hollow schools in Barry County. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day Adventist.
She married Jeff L. Rose on Dec. 22, 1926. He survives.
Additional survivors include six sons, Howard Rose, Harley Rose and Lennis Rose, all of Washburn, Lenear Rose, Grove, Okla., Lemoin Rose, Yakima, Wash., and John Rose, Amarillo, Texas; six daughters, Ruby Evyle Coyner and Marilyn Roller, both of Washburn, Nancy Woodard, Pineville, Jetta M. Rose, Chino, Calif.; Wanda Clement, Lincoln, Neb.; and Thelma Martin, Independence, Mo.; a brother, Ray Fletcher, Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Velrie Adams, Mount Vernon, Vurl Ruark, Neosho, Faye Fleshman, Aurora, and Maxine Morgan, Vancouver, Wash.; 43 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and nine great- great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. The Rev. Lenear Rose, John Rose and Lemoin Rose will officiate.
Burial will be in King Cemetery, Seligman.
Pallbearers will be Brian Rose, Rick Rose, David Woodard, Richard Rose, Larry Sanders, James Lee Roller, Steve Roller and Vernon Rose.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
