Denzil Thrasher
GRANBY, Mo. - Denzil Delbert Thrasher, 76, Granby, died at 2:21 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at his home after a five-month illness.
Mr. Thrasher was born Jan. 6, 1921, at Goodman.
He was a 1939 Granby High School graduate.
He served in the Army from 1940 to 1945.
He owned and operated the D&E; Market at Goodman from 1959 to 1968.
He worked as a tool and dye machinist for 17 years for Sunbeam, retiring in 1986.
He married Betty June Henson on Nov. 11, 1977. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Janice Leek, Ozark, Elaine Sue Brookman, Pawnee, Ill., and Carol David, Hollister; a son, Gary L. Thrasher, Neosho; two stepsons, Randy Henson and Ken Henson, both of Neosho; two stepdaughters, Janice Ezell and Connie Henson, both of Joplin; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
The Rev. Robert Williams will officiate.
Burial will be in Belfast Cemetery, west of Neosho.
Pallbearers will be Ken Dwyer, Dale Bradley, Jeral Shirley, Tom Ester, Al Watson and Scott Swope.
American Legion Post No. 163 will conduct graveside flag-folding rites.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
Olive Brasch
Olive A. Brasch, 82, Joplin, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West after an illness.
Mrs. Brasch was born Nov. 10, 1914, at Joplin and was a lifetime resident.
She was a homemaker and a former self-employed cake decorator.
She was a Protestant.
She married Floyd R. Brasch on Jan. 8, 1939, at Joplin. He died Aug. 8, 1992.
Survivors include a son, Robert A. Brasch, Joplin; a daughter, Cindy Susan Smith, Carl Junction; two brothers, Bill Allen and Leyland Allen, both of Joplin; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
The Rev. Aaron Weibel will officiate.
Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.
Pallbearers will be Butch Allen, Spencer Aggus, Steve Aggus, Ron Raymond, Herb Faucett and Tom Russell.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
Family will be at the home of a son, Robert A. Brasch, 3712 Castle Rock Drive.
John Dunn
John Dennis Dunn, 90, 1712 Moffet Ave., died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mr. Dunn was born June 11, 1906, at Joplin.
He was a lifetime resident.
He was a carpenter, painter, wallpaper hanger, and cabinetmaker before retiring.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Earl J. Bruton Post No. 534 VFW.
He married Esta Nadine Roush on Dec. 13, 1935, at Joplin.
She died Dec. 30, 1979.
He is survived by a brother, James H. Dunn, Joplin; and three sisters, Kathleen Maxine Wright, of the home, Rosetta Golden, Joplin, and Ruth Dunn, Farmington.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Osborne Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW post.
Christine Beavan
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Christine Beavan, 89, Willard, formerly of Webb City, died at 1 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at a Springfield nursing home.
Mrs. Beavan was born Dec. 13, 1907, at Edinburg, Scotland.
She graduated from nursing school at Glascow, Scotland, and then worked as a nurse midwife before joining Royal Crown Services.
After serving in World War II, she came to the United States, living in Norwood for several years.
She and her family moved to Webb City in 1953.
She worked at McCune-Brooks Hospital at Carthage from 1954 until 1966, when she moved to Springfield.
She then worked at Burge Hospital, later working as a supervisor at Fremont Manor Nursing Home.
She then worked as a private duty nurse until retiring 17 years ago.
She attended Assembly of God Church.
She married Paul Beavan on April 2, 1947, at Chatsworth, Ill. He survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Violet Earl, Chanute, Kan.; a sister, Mae Sargert, Edenbaugh, Scotland; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Assembly of God Church, Cave Springs.
The Rev. Dan Overly and Billy Burris will officiate.
Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, under the direction of Wilson Brim-Daniel Funeral Home, Ash Grove.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Helen Brown
AURORA, Mo. - Helen M. Brown, 80, Aurora, died at 4:12 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, after a long illness.
Mrs. Brown was born March 18, 1916, at Aurora.
She was a lifetime area resident and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
She married John J. Brown on Nov. 22, 1945, at Aurora. He died June 21, 1982.
Survivors include three sons, John Brown, Berkeley, Calif., Jim Brown and Bob Brown, both of Aurora; two daughters, Mary Schmidt, Monett, and Barbara Brown, Aurora; three brothers, Gene Leitle, Shell Knob, Bill and Charles Leitle, both of Aurora; three sisters, Josephine Leitle, Pauline Leitle and Mary Leitle, all of Aurora; and six grandchildren.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Aurora.
The Rev. Peter Morciniec will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Aurora.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Church building fund.
Robert Dale
CARTHAGE, Mo. - Memorial services for Robert S. Dale, 79, Carthage route 3, who died Saturday, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage.
The Very Rev. Bruce Green will officiate.
The body has been cremated.
Fort Leonard Wood (Mo.) Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites at Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium.
Arrangements are under the direction of Knell Mortuary.
Elizabeth Larkin
PIERCE CITY, Mo. - Elizabeth Carol Larkin, 85, Pierce City route 2, died at 1:58 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield.
Mrs. Larkin was born Nov. 14, 1911, at Kansas City.
She received a bachelor's degree from University of Kansas.
She was a librarian for 40 years at Harold Bell Wright Library, Pierce City.
She wrote a column for the Monett Times, covering the Pierce City area.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pierce City Garden Club, Pierce City Literary Club, Pierce City Supper Club, and had been a Lawrence County Democratic committeewoman.
She married Edward Patrick Larkin in January 1936 at Kansas City.
He preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Terry Larkin, Dillon, Colo., James Larkin, Fenton, and Kevin Larkin, Springfield; three daughters, Maura Sparks, Irving, Texas, Sheila Scott, Jefferson City, and Bridget Cromer, Chesterfield; a sister, Eleanor Carter, Phoenix, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Pastor Dan Hertz will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery under the direction of Wessell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Louis Fenske, Edward Fenske, Harold Gripka, Bill Frey, Gary and Edwin Flehmer.
The body may be viewed after 9 a.m. today at the church.
