Velma Rose
WASHBURN, Mo. - Services for Velma I. Rose, 84, Washburn, who died Thursday, will be 10:30 a.m. today at Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
The Rev. Lenear Rose, John Rose and Lemoin Rose will officiate.
Burial will be in King Cemetery, Seligman.
Mrs. Rose was a member of Church of God Seventh Day, Joplin.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruby Evylee Coyner, Washburn.
Pallbearers include Steve Rose.
Phyllis Dust
Phyllis E. Dust, 75, Joplin, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
Mrs. Dust was born July 4, 1921 at Corn Island, Nicaragua.
She was a caregiver for the elderly and children until she retired in the 1970s.
She married Roy W. Dust on March 14, 1944, in Panama.
He died June 8, 1968.
Survivors include two daughters, Letha DeMier, Joplin, and Gay Dust, Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Glenis White, Miami, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Steve Breon, minister, will officiate.
Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery, Joplin.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Pallbearers will be Dustin DeMier, Tom E. DeMier, Tom C. DeMier, Gerald Dust, Chris Owens, Fred Hobson.
Contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
Mabel Hartley
Mabel L. Hartley, 91, 510 Turk St., died at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West after a short illness.
Mrs. Hartley was born Oct. 18, 1905, at Lawrence City, Mo.
She moved from Springfield to Joplin in 1937.
She worked in the Joplin R-8 cafeteria system.
She was a member of Royal Heights Methodist Church.
She married Wayne Hartley on Jan. 26, 1924.
He preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Bob Hartley, Joplin; a daughter, Betty Overall, Ann Arbor, Mich; a sister, Alberta Miefwinkle, Mount Vernon; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at IOOF Cemetery, Mount Vernon.
The Rev. Luie Lowe will officiate.
Services are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Jo Anne Iman
Jo Anne Iman, 50, Joplin, died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at her home after an illness.
Mrs. Iman was born Aug. 1, 1946, at Pittsburg, Kan.
She lived most of her life in the Joplin area.
She worked the last 10 years as the human resources director at Butterball Inc., Carthage.
She worked 13 years as personnel director at Lozier Inc., Joplin., and she was a bookkeeper at KODE television station and at FAG Bearing, both of Joplin.
She was active in the United Way of Carthage.
She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joplin.
Survivors include a sister, Karen Hughlett, Joplin; two brothers, Ed Russell, St. Peters, and Jeff Russell, Hearne, Texas.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joplin. Michael Dunaway, bishop, will officiate.
Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery, north of Joplin.
The casket will be closed at all times.
Contributions may be made to United Way of Carthage.
Arrangements are pending with Parker Mortuary.
Howard Johnson
Howard Lewis Johnson, 79, 416 Turk, died at 3:22 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after an illness.
Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 17, 1917, at Denver, Colo.
He moved to Joplin from Thermopolis, Wyo. in 1990.
He owned and operated a NAPA auto parts dealership in Thermopolis for 25 years, retiring in 1983.
He married Katherin Hodges on Oct. 26, 1950 at Bentonville, Ark. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Michael Howard Johnson, Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Robin Lynn Morgan, Daytona, Fla.; a brother, Edgar Johnson, Thermopolis; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The body will be cremated. No services are planned.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
LeAnn Kempton
Vonnia LeAnn Kempton, 28, Joplin route 8, died at 3:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Kempton was born April 2, 1968, at Joplin, where she lived most of her life.
She graduated in 1986 from Diamond (Mo.) High School and in 1990 from Missouri Southern State College.
She married Michael Kempton on April 4, 1992, at Webb City. He survives.
Additional survivors include her parents, Karl and June Mattes, Joplin; a sister, Kara Mattes, Joplin; and her paternal grandmother, Esther Bures, Lowell, Ark.
The body will be cremated.
Cremains will be buried at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
Gary Morrison will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
Roberta Owen
Roberta Owen, 92, Joplin, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at a local nursing home after a short illness.
Mrs. Owen was born April 14, 1904, at Eureka Springs, Ark.
She lived most of her life in Joplin.
She was a homemaker.
She married Wilbur Owen on Jan. 20, 1933, at Hot Springs, Ark.
He died Jan. 1, 1983.
Survivors include a son, Bob Owen, Joplin; two daughters, Joanne Faulkner, Prairie Village, Kan., and Rebecca Cutter, Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The body has been cremated.
No services are planned.
