Billy Jackson
NEVADA, Mo. - Billy Eugene Jackson, 55, Nevada, died Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Jackson was born Aug. 8, 1941, at Kansas City. He had lived in the Nevada area all of his life. He served in the armed forces for many years.
Survivors include a son, David Jackson, Belton; three daughters, LeAnn Hammond, Independence, and Jennifer Moore and Trisha Jackson, both of Nevada; a stepdaughter, Lisa Sanderson, Nevada; two sisters, names and addresses unavailable, and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Friday at National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
Dorothy Lassiter
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Dorothy Lassiter, 86, Littleton, Colo., died Monday, March 3, 1997, at Littleton Hospital after an illness. Her husband was a former Webb City resident.
Mrs. Lassiter was born June 9, 1910, at Brockton, Mass. She moved to Littleton in 1985. She formerly lived for many years in Kansas City. She was a homemaker and an Episcopalian.
She married William H. Lassiter Sr. on May 13, 1928, at Boston. He died in 1968.
Survivors include three sons, William Lassiter Jr., Ogala, Fla., Henry Lassiter, Belton, and Paul Lassiter, Olmstead Falls, Ohio; a daughter, Patricia Lassiter, Littleton; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Carterville Cemetery. The Rev. David Patrick will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City.
Gloria Rudd
GREENFIELD, Mo. - Gloria J. Rudd, 52, Greenfield, died Monday, March 3, 1997, at her home after an illness.
Mrs. Rudd was born Aug. 6, 1944, at Sacramento, Calif. She was graduated from Hollister High School. She was a homemaker and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, Greenfield.
Survivors include two sons, Walter Aaron Bolin, Greenfield, and Bradly E. Downs, Springfield; three daughters, Tracy Lynn Scott, Fair Grove, Kelly Caldwell, Seymour, and Gloria Dawn Rudd, Greenfield; three brothers, Stanley Jones and Stephen Jones, both of Hollister, and Daniel P. Jones, Willets, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
The body will be cremated.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenfield Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Harold McMasters will officiate.
Bessie Senkevech
NEVADA, Mo. - Bessie Pearl Senkevech, 85, Nevada, formerly of Moundville, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at Nevada Regional Center after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Senkevech was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Benton County, Ark. She was a homemaker. She moved to the Nevada area in 1933. She was a Methodist.
Her husband, Adam Senkevech, died Dec. 9, 1980.
Surviving are three sons, Tom Senkevech, Nevada, Jack Senkevech, Bentonville, Ark., and Max Senkevech, Bronaugh; a daughter, Dixie Goodnaugh, Franklin, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Viona Gifford, Kansas City, and Nadene Ashley, Taylors, S.C.; a sister, Hazel Crouse, Hutchinson, Kan.; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery.
Alta Turner
GRANBY, Mo. - Alta Pearl Turner, 102, Claremore, Okla., formerly of Granby, died at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at Claremore Hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Turner was born March 29, 1895, at Clarksville, Ark. She moved to the Granby area in 1900 and lived there until six years ago, when she moved to Texas. She had lived in Claremore for four months. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ, Neosho. She was a former member of Lone Star Church of Christ in eastern Newton County. She had been a member of the Church of Christ for 87 years.
Her husband, Barry Daniel Turner, died on July 2, 1981.
Survivors include two daughters, Lavina Tobey, Conroe, Texas, and Retha Dunn, Neosho; two sons, Eldon Turner, Claremore, and Robert Turner, Miami, Okla.; a sister, Anna Pendley, Eufaula, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Church of Christ with John R. Turner, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Hazel Green Cemetery, in the Boulder City community.
Pallbearers will be Bill Cupps, Richard Turner, Charles Palm, Daniel Palm, Randall Palm, Albert McCullin, Brian Bradley and Barry Tobey.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
Contributions may be made to the Hillcrest Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.
Con Pitner
Con Edwin Pitner, 82, 2716 St. Louis Ave., died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 1997, at Citizens' Memorial Hospital, Bolivar, of an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Pitner was born Feb. 8, 1915, at Bolivar. He had lived in Joplin since 1945. He was manager of the former 905 Liquor Store, Joplin. He was a member of South Joplin Christian Church.
He married Mildred Frieze on June 4, 1938, in Bolivar. She died May 26, 1982.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Pitner, Winnetka, Ill.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parker Mortuary. The Rev. Ron Wade will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Contributions may be made to South Joplin Christian Church.
James Toft
James C. Toft, 82, Joplin, a former Aurora resident, died at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 1997, at a local nursing home after a short illness.
Mr. Toft was born Aug. 9, 1914, at Salt Lake City. He moved to Aurora in 1939 from Columbia. He operated Toft and Co. Store, an Aurora dry goods store. He had a home repair business in Joplin. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a former member of First Presbyterian Church, Aurora. He was a deacon and elder with the Aurora church. He was a former member of the Aurora Lions Club and was a member of the former Metro Club, Aurora. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 284, Aurora.
He married Dorothy Malet on July 4, 1940, at Aurora. She died June 10, 1994.
Survivors include a son, Robert Toft, Joplin; a daughter, Joanne Warner, St. Louis; a brother, Osborne Toft, Aurora; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora. The Rev. William Christman will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Joplin, or St. John's Hospice, Joplin.
Lorraine Dean
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. - Lorraine Dean, 78, Burlington, Kan., formerly of Carl Junction, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at her home after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Dean was born April 12, 1918, at Oronogo. She moved to Burlington in 1989 from Carl Junction, where she and her husband had owned a business.
She married Frank Dean on Feb. 17, 1938, at Joplin. He died in 1981.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Dean, Carl Junction; a daughter, Janice LeMaster, New Strawn, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
No services are planned.
The body will be cremated.
