Brett Leivan
LAMAR, Mo. - Brett Grubb Leivan, 32, Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Lamar, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997, when he fell from a balcony while vacationing in Paris, France.
Mr. Leivan was born June 1, 1964, at Kansas City. He had lived 12 years in Los Angeles, where he moved from Lamar.
He was a director for General Electric Corp., Los Angeles.
He also was a model for a tuxedo company catalog and performed in the play, "South Pacific."
He was a Christian and a member of the Course of Miracles, Los Angeles.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, William and Jo Grubb, Kansas City; his mother, Vera Marie Leivan, Lamar; two brothers, Brandon Lee Leivan, Springfield, and Aaron L. Leivan, Lamar; his grandparents, Raymond and Mary Leivan, Lamar, and Stan and Ruth Tyler, Liberal; and great-grandparents, Eva Leivan, Lamar, and Viola Baetke, Liberal.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, Lamar.
Doug Oakes, minister, will officiate.
Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Lamar.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Bob Bailey
NEOSHO, Mo. - Julian H. "Bob" Bailey, 78, Sperry, Okla., route 2, formerly of Neosho, died at 11:20 a.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at a Tulsa, Okla., nursing home after a short illness.
Mr. Bailey was born Oct. 29, 1918, at Maryville, Mo.
He moved to Neosho in 1947 from California.
He owned and operated Bailey Furniture on the Neosho square for 22 years, retiring in 1969.
He moved to Oklahoma in 1976.
He was a Marine veteran of World War II.
He married Barbara E. Jones on May 25, 1946, at Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mary Helen Freter, Sperry; a son, Robert W. Bailey, Tulsa; and a sister, Donna Hurst, Santa Ana, Calif.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Neosho, with the Rev. Jerry Seigel officiating.
American Legion Post No. 163 will conduct a graveside flag-folding ceremony.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
The casket will remain closed.
Ruth Clanton
NEOSHO, Mo. - Graveside services for Opal Ruth Clanton, 86, Daytona Beach, Fla., formerly of Neosho, who died Wednesday, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hazelgreen Cemetery, Boulder City.
Dick Reed will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Woodard-Freund-Thompson Funeral Home, Neosho.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of Voulsia County, Fla., in care of the funeral home.
Additional survivors include two brothers, Jim White, North Little Rock, Ark., and Raymond White, The Dalles, Ore.; and two sisters, Marie Zinn, Joplin, and Violet Parsons, North Little Rock.
Marvin Coley
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Rufus Reed "Marvin" Coley, 86, 406 N. Webb Ave., Webb City, died at 6:45 p.m Thursday, March 13, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a sudden illness.
Mr. Coley was born March 21, 1910, at Hartland, Wash.
He had lived in Webb City for more than 40 years.
He had worked for the Webb City school district in maintenance, for the Webb City Street Department, for Sunshine Biscuit Co, Webb City, and as a Webb City police officer.
He was a member of Frisco Church, Webb City, and the Anti-Theft Association No. 160, Webb City.
He married Rozene Severs Coley on March 15, 1952. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Michael Griffith, Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, with the Rev. Bill Hobson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Paul Eden, Earl Mason, Wayne Medley, Jim Evans, Bob Tuter and Oscar Evans.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.
George Fleck
CARTHAGE, Mo. - George D. Fleck, 82, San Jose, Calif., formerly of Carthage, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 1997, at a San Jose nursing home after a long illness.
Mr. Fleck was born Sept. 5, 1914, at Philadelphia, Pa.
He served in the Navy during World War II and came to Carthage after the war.
He was a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union in Joplin.
He married Ida H. Grayson on Sept. 28. 1937, in Philadelphia; she died July 3, 1977.
There are no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Park Cemetery, Carthage, with the Rev. David Brane officiating.
Services are under the direction of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
Glenn Hawk Sr.
NEOSHO, Mo. - Glenn T. Hawk Sr., 86, 615 S. High St., Neosho, died at 2:45 a.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Hawk was born Oct. 2, 1910, at Neosho.
He was a lifelong Neosho resident.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 315th Medical Battalion, 90th Infantry Division.
He was a member of the Church of Hope, Neosho.
He had worked at Neosho Floral on North College Street for many years.
He was a gardener for the Pet Milk Co., Neosho, and a custodian at Neosho High School.
He worked for the L.E. Martin Moving and Storage, Neosho, and as an auctioneer's assistant.
He married Nola E. Lett on March 27, 1937, at Neosho. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Glenn Hawk Jr., Neosho; a daughter, Glenda Adams, Diamond; three sisters, Dixie Bracy, Oklahoma City, Okla., Ann Harmon, Joplin, and Betty Wood, Republic; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, with the Rev. Malcom Mosby officiating.
Burial will be in Gibson Cemetery, near Neosho. American Legion Post No. 163, will conduct a graveside flag-folding ceremony.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Dobias, Roger Wilson, Lonnie Stites, Jerry Cornett, Richard Hutchison and Mitch Stillions.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Luther Irby
AURORA, Mo. - Luther L. "Jakie" Irby, 92, Aurora, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at an Aurora nursing home after a long illness.
Mr. Irby was born July 31, 1904, in Marionville.
He was a retired commercial artist and a lifelong area resident.
He married Marcella Wallace on Nov. 30, 1931, in Springfield. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Carol Rapp, Phoenix, Ariz., Gloria Gold, Wheaton, and Linda Rauch, Aurora; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold Gold will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery.
