Ellis Hull
REEDS, Mo. - Ellis Frank Hull, 78, Reeds, died at 10:40 p.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness.
Mr. Hull was born March 29, 1918, at Oldfield.
He had lived in Reeds since 1951.
He was an employee of Carthage Marble and a log hauler.
He retired in 1989.
He was a member of the Reeds Baptist Church.
He married Nellie May Garrison on March 22, 1940, at Ozark.
She survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Lloyd D. Hull and Frederick D. Hull, both of Reeds, and Harold L. Hull, Avilla; a daughter, Wanda Pauline Ward, Carthage; two brothers, Melvin Hull, Elkhead, and Alvie Hull, Bruner; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reeds Cemetery.
The Rev. Loma Burrell will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Earl Long, Joe Pierce, Andy Ward, Charlie Hull, Bill Hull and Rick Hull.
Arrangements are under the direction of Housh Funeral Home, Sarcoxie.
Curtis Maze
AURORA, Mo. - Curtis A. Maze, 83, Aldrich route 2, an Aurora native, died Friday afternoon, March 14, 1997, at his home after a farming accident.
Mr. Maze was born June 25, 1913, at Aurora.
He graduated from Dadeville (Mo.) High School.
He was a farmer and a member of the Dadeville First Christian Church.
He married Geneva Passmore on Sept. 18, 1938, at Bolivar.
She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Bill Maze, Bolivar; a daughter, Lynette Thomas, Springfield; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Dadeville First Christian Church.
The Rev. Steve Moore and the Rev. Larry Malaney will officiate.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Springfield.
Friends may call at their convenience at the Dadeville Funeral Home.
James Roe
NEVADA, Mo. - James August Roe, 65, Nevada, died at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Roe was born August 2, 1931, at Santa Ana, Calif.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1953 to 1955.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He married Olive Hazelton on Nov. 20, 1976, at Reno, Nev. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Lee Roe, Stockton, Calif.; a daughter, Tina Myers, Nevada; a brother, Burt Roe, Oceanside, Calif.; a sister, Ester Woods, Nevada; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
The Rev. William Cox will officiate.
Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan.
Friends may call until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Martha Stansberry
LAMAR, Mo. - Martha Orine Stansberry, 84, 204 Walnut, Lamar, died at 6:25 p.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a heart attack.
Mrs. Stansberry was born Feb. 22, 1913, at Lamar.
She worked as a secretary in several offices and as a part-time clerk in the the Lamar courthouse.
She was a member of the Lamar United Methodist Church.
She married Howard Glen Stansberry on June 2, 1944.
He died Jan. 16, 1977. Survivors include a sister, Nadeen Waggoner, Lamar.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.
The Rev. Clif Crockett will officiate.
Burial will be in Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Curless, Henry Lyle, Vic Higgenbotham, J.D. Pahlow, Tom Carroll, Carl VanDeMark and Richard Chancellor.
Contributions may be made to the Lamar United Methodist Church or the Barton County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Chuck Daniel
Charles Edmund "Chuck" Daniel, 68, Joplin, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday March 27, 1997, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Daniel was born June 19, 1928, at Helena, Ark.
He moved to Joplin in 1962 from Elgin, Ill.
He worked 42 years for Western Union and retired in 1989 as a communications technician.
He was a Baptist.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was an Exalted Ruler of Joplin Elks' Lodge No. 501, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Joplin, Fellowship Lodge No. 345 AF & AM, Abou Ben Adhem of Springfield, Joplin Shrine Club, and was past president of the Oriental Band of Joplin.
He married Carmene Hall on Feb. 10, 1979, in Joplin. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, C.E. Daniel II, Moore, Okla.; a daughter, Carolyn K. Green. Topeka, Kan.; three stepsons, Charles Hall, Springfield, Robert Lee Hall, Kansas City, and C.J. Hall, Joplin; a brother, Ersell Daniel, Joliet, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Parker Mortuary.
Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Lodge No. 345 will perform Masonic graveside rites.
The family will receive friends 6 to 7 p.m. today at the mortuary.
Contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice, in care of the mortuary.
Sarah Gentry
Sarah Jane Gentry, 86, Joplin, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness.
Mrs. Gentry was born Dec. 23, 1910, at Bristow, Okla.
She moved to Joplin four years ago from Vinita, Okla.
She was a Baptist and a homemaker.
She married Otto Gentry on May 29, 1934, at Bentonville, Ark.
He died in May 1964.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Bird, Joplin, and Janice Glover, Tulsa, Okla.; a son, Tommy Bennefield, Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The body has been taken for cremation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
Carol Ashley
PIERCE CITY, Mo. - Carol Lou Lamastus Ashley, 57, Pierce City, died at 4:58 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 1997, at an area nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Ashley was born July 11, 1939, at Battle Lake, Minn.
She moved to Pierce City in 1969.
She was employed at Sarajo and Clark Industries in California.
She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her mother, Clara Bliss, Dent, Minn.; three sons, Richard Vellee, Oklahoma City, Okla., Kevin B. Vellee Sr., Wentworth, Mo., and Jim A. Lamastus, Pierce City,; a brother, Sheldon Bliss, Hawthorne, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Services are pending with Lincoln Funeral Home, Pierce City.
