Thurman Block
NEOSHO, Mo. - Thurman Ray Block, 60, 1020 W. Hill, died at 8 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 1997, after a long illness.
Mr. Block was born Sept. 12, 1936, at Hobart, Okla.
He had been an equipment technician for GTE in Bryan, Texas, for 21 years.
He retired in 1991.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Neosho American Legion Post No. 163.
He was a member of Northside Baptist Church, Neosho.
He married Alma Lou on June 2, 1978, at Bryan. She survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Patricia K. Adams, state of Arizona, Piroska Scott, Iola, Texas, Ilonka Moon, Seattle, Wash., and Etelka Trader, San Antonio, Texas; two stepsons, Doug Irvin Jr., Wichita, Kan., and Joseph Irvin, Springfield; a stepdaughter, Terry Johnson, Wichita; a stepmother, Pauline Block, Sturgis, S.D.; three brothers, Eddie Block and Arvel Block, both of Hobart, Okla., and Archie Block, Flower Mound, Texas; a sister, Judy Summers, Hobart; a stepbrother Edsell Roe, Rapid City, S.D.; and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Northside Baptist Church.
The Rev. Terry Swagerty and the Rev. Doug Irvin Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Neosho.
Pallbearers will be Charles Kuykendall, Jim Delaney, Matthew Persinger, Dwayne Northcut, Bill Hulsey Sr., Dallas Kelly, Bud Powell, Al Dockstader and Tom Brumfield.
American Legion Post No. 163 will perform a graveside flag-folding ceremony.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
Curtis Ellis
CASSVILLE, Mo. - Curtis F. Ellis, 78, Cassville, died at 4:20 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 1997, at South Barry County Hospital, Cassville, after a long illness.
Mr. Ellis was born Jan. 17, 1919, at Exeter.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He worked as a mechanic for James' Automotive, Cassville, for 20 years.
He retired in 1994.
He was a member of Exeter Assembly of God Church, where he served as a deacon.
He married Ellen Patterson on July 3, 1938.
She died March 24, 1955.
He married Dorothy Harrison on June 8, 1957.
She preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Ellis, Neosho, and Gary Ellis, Cassville; four daughters, Marion Stubblefield, Freda Barnes and Wilma Hilburn, all of Cassville, and Wanda Cole, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Joe Ellis, Manhattan, Kan.; a sister, Etta Mae Matlock, Viola, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
The Rev. Bob Harrison and the Rev. Bryan Shaw will officiate.
Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
Pallbearers will be Tony Sanders, Randy Sanders, Steve Sanders, Jeffrey Stubblefield, Scott Sanders, Joe Stubblefield, Billie Ellis and Gary Ellis.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Marguerite Frey
DIAMOND, Mo. - Marguerite E. Frey, 82, Phoenix, Ariz., died Monday, March 24, 1997, at her home after a short illness.
Her son, Mike Frey, is a Diamond resident.
Mrs. Frey was born June 15, 1914, at Pocahontas, Iowa.
She had lived in Phoenix about 28 years.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Jerome's Catholic Church, Phoenix.
She married Roy C. Frey on Feb. 8, 1941, at Pocahontas. He survives.
Other survivors include four additional sons, John Frey and Bob Frey, both of Kansas City, Larry Frey, Springfield, and Joe Frey, Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, Joplin.
The Rev. Joe Peplansky will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City.
Pallbearers will be Brian Frey, David Frey, Mike Frey, Aaron Frey, Jason Frey and Joe Frey.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Maggie Leake
SHELL KNOB, Mo. - Margaret "Maggie" Enloe Leake, 73, Shell Knob, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 1997, at Carroll Regional Medical Center, Berryville, Ark., after a short illness.
Mrs. Leake was born Jan. 31, 1924, at Kansas City, Kan.
She moved to Shell Knob in 1985.
She was a co-owner of the candy factory in Shell Knob for six years.
She was a co-caretaker of Tri-County Rod and Gun Club, Kansas City, Kan., for 20 years before she moved to Shell Knob.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Shell Knob.
She married James E. "Speedy" Leake on Oct. 22, 1953, at Olathe, Kan.
He died on Aug. 4, 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Joann Michellek, Shell Knob, and Melinda Rinehart, Shawnee, Kan.; two stepsons, James Leake, Jacksonville, N.C., and Robert Leake, Ingalls, Ind.; two brothers, David Enloe, Bonner Springs, Kan., and Gene Enloe, Overland Park, Kan.; two sisters, Bessie Ross, Shell Knob, and Mary Catherine Rickman, Columbia; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Painter Cemetery, Shell Knob, with Corky Johnson, minister, officiating.
Contributions may be made to the First Responders or to Hospice Care of the Carroll Regional Medical Center, in care of Williamson Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
Libby Williams
LAMAR, Mo. - Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Williams, 63, Springfield, a native of Lamar, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 1997, at her home after a long illness.
Miss Williams was born March 4, 1934, in Lamar.
She grew up and attended schools in Lamar.
She had been a high-school and college English teacher.
Survivors include a sister, Jean Hasson, Lamar.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Lamar. Doug Oakes, minister, will officiate.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.
Jimmie Bowman
Services for Jimmie D. Bowman, 61, 1506 E. 38th St., who died Tuesday, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Parker Mortuary.
The Rev. Max Bishop will officiate.
Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
The casket will be closed at all times.
Contributions may be made to the oncology department at St. John's Regional Medical Center.
Fred DeBois
Fred O. DuBois, 75, 2223 Missouri Ave., died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at his home after a short illness (cancer).
Mr. DuBois was born Oct. 14, 1921, at Eureka Springs, Ark.
He lived in Joplin most of his life.
He worked at Miller Manufacturing and Work-Ware Manufacturing, both of Joplin.
He retired in 1982.
He was a member of the Joplin Elks Lodge.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He married Martha Alice Guetterman on Nov. 14, 1941, in Joplin.
She survives. Additional survivors include a daughter, Lois Mitchell, Joplin; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stone Cemetery, southeast of Joplin.
Terry Tyler and Tom Glaze, ministers, will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
