Doyle Goins

Doyle Everett Goins, 75, Joplin, died at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after an illness of several months.

Mr. Goins was born May 18, 1921, at Kenwood, Okla. He moved to the Joplin area in 1941. He was a transporter for the former Atlas Powder Co., now known as ICI Explosives, for more than 40 years. He retired Sept. 1, 1981.

He was a Methodist and a member of the Joplin Bowling League. He was an Army veteran of World War II who served as a paratrooper in the Airborne Division and attained the rank of sergeant.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Howell, Joplin; three brothers, Earl Goins, Jay, Okla., Howard Goins, Wichita, Kan., and Durward Goins, Miami, Okla.; two sisters, Lorene Goins, the state of Oregon, and Melba Goins, Jay; three grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Jay. The Rev. Mike Chase will officiate. Burial will be in Spavinaw Cemetery, west of Jay.

Pallbearers will be Jim Bingham, Harlin Brewer, Rick Goins, Randy Goins, Dale Goins and Danny Knight.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Mortuary.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of the mortuary.

Glenn Tucker

James Glenn Tucker, 83, Joplin, died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at a local nursing home, where he had been a patient for five weeks.

Mr. Tucker was born April 17, 1913, in Joplin and was a lifetime resident. He was a sheet metal worker for Rainey Roofing and Sheet Metal for 25 years. He retired in 1972.

He was a member of Empire Baptist Church, Joplin, and Sheet Metal Workers of America, Local No. 36, St. Louis. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He married Freddie B. Hosp on Sept. 7, 1930, in Joplin. She survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Jeanene McCoy and Martha "Marty" Stephens, both of Joplin; a son, Fredrick Tucker, Belleville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parker Mortuary. The Rev. Steve Grace will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Joe Cardoza Jr.

CASSVILLE, Mo. - Joseph "Joe" Cardoza Jr., 79, St. Louis, died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 1997, at a St. Louis nursing home after a long illness. His wife, Leeson Cardoza, is from Cassville.

Mr. Cardoza was born Nov. 27, 1917, at Oakland, Calif. He was graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, and received his master's degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He was a teacher in Springfield before he moved to St. Louis in 1950, where he continued his teaching career.

He was a member of Crestwood First Baptist Church, St. Louis, and planned programs for retired church members. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He married Leeson E. Meador on Dec. 23, 1947, at Springfield. She survives.

Other survivors include three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville.

Lois Davis

WEBB CITY, Mo. - Lois May Hightower Davis, 64, Shawnee, Okla., a former Webb City area resident, died Monday, March 17, 1997, at a nursing home in Shawnee after an illness.

Mrs. Davis was born May 22, 1932, at Oklahoma City, Okla. She grew up in Oregon and had lived in Arkansas and Missouri before she returned to Oklahoma in the late 1960s. She lived in Guthrie, Okla., for 20 years before she moved recently to Shawnee. She was graduated in 1951 from Cascade Union High School in Marion County, Ore., and in 1970 from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M; College, Miami, Okla.

She was a member of Shawnee Church of God.

She married Harold Davis on Jan. 8, 1973, at Guthrie. He died Oct. 6, 1981.

Survivors include two sisters, Roberta L. Gaines, Thayer, and Charlotte N. Huskey, Ensenada, Mexico.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh, Okla. Leslie Busbee and Michael Smith will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Webb City (Mo.) Cemetery.

Zella Howerton

NOEL, Mo. - Zella A. Howerton, 94, Noel route 1, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at Gravette (Ark.) Medical Center after an illness.

Mrs. Howerton was born Oct. 26, 1902, in McDonald County. She had lived all her life in the Noel area. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Noel.

She married Ozro Howerton on Dec. 12, 1920. He died Feb. 8, 1978.

Survivors include a son, Johnnie Howerton, Southwest City, Okla.; a sister, Cora Asher, Joplin; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Noel. The Rev. James Wallis will officiate. Burial will be in Noel Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at Ozark Funeral Home, Noel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Loyd Hunt

DUENWEG, Mo. - Memorial services for Loyd W. Hunt Sr., 73, 607 Dutch St., who died Monday, were conducted Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.

Richard Brown, minister, officiated.

The body was cremated after the services.

Additional survivors include a son, Dallas Hunt, Joplin.

Charlotte Lair

GOODMAN, Mo. - Charlotte E. Dodson Lair, 92, Goodman route 1, died at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at a Joplin nursing home after an illness.

Mrs. Lair was born May 18, 1904, at Altoona, Pa. She had lived most of her life in McDonald County. She was a homemaker and a Protestant.

Her husband, William Thomas Lair, died on July 28, 1971.

Survivors include two sons, Donald L. Lair, Goodman, and Raymond Lair, Neosho; three daughters, Pauline Daniels and Bertha Thurman, both of Neosho, and Esther Armstrong, Joplin; two brothers, Kenneth Dodson, Joplin, and Lloyd Dodson, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Norene Robinson and Helen Arnold, both of Tulsa; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ozark Funeral Home, Goodman, with the Rev. Bill Hobson officiating. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Goodman.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
