Mary Brown

Mary A. Brown, 97, 117 McConnell Ave., died at 5:09 a.m. Friday, March 21, 1997, at Freeman Hospital East where she had been a patient since March 4.

Mrs. Brown was born Jan. 17, 1900, at Neodesha, Kan.

She moved to Joplin in 1923 from Pittsburg, Kan.

She had taught in a country school in the Neodesha area.

She was a member of Oakland Christian Church.

She married Wilburn Brown on June 20, 1920, at Neodesha.

He died March 22, 1979.

Survivors include four sons, Carl W. Brown, Fort Myers, Fla., Paul E. Brown, Joplin, Leo E. Brown, Springfield, and Ivan M. Brown, Glendale, Ore.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.

The Rev. William E. Furnas will officiate.

Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

The sons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will be at the home.

Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Gladys Maynard

Gladys Morlan Maynard, 98, 2212 Mississippi Ave., died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 1997, at a nursing home in St. Petersburg, Fla., after an illness.

Mrs. Maynard was born April 22, 1898, at Carterville.

She moved from Carterville to Joplin in 1922 and to St. Petersburg in 1989.

She was a 1921 graduate of Carterville High School.

She worked for the Burgess Insurance Agency for 48 years, retiring in 1968.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Joplin.

She was a former member of the Ladies of the Elks, Credit Women of Joplin and the Insurance Women of Joplin.

She married Alvah Cooper Maynard in December 1945 in Joplin. He died in October 1947.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Nancy Masters, Kansas City; and a brother, Garold L. Morlan, St. Petersburg.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

The Rev. Fred Pugh will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary.

Contributions may be made to the Family Life Center of the First Christian Church, Joplin.

Maxine Mitchell

Services for Maxine Wells Mitchell, 83, Joplin, who died Thursday, will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary.

Ralph Reynolds, minister, will officiate.

Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Rea, Richard Kosinski, Dareld Mussman, John Willis, Marvin Rutledge and Tom Banks.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

The family will be at the home of her niece, Betty Escallier, 2320 Iowa St., Joplin.

Contributions may be made to Jehovah's Witnesses East Unit, Joplin.

Survivors include a sister, Una Berniece Fox, Joplin.

Lloyd Webber

Lloyd J. Webber, 66, Joplin route 1, died at 4:55 a.m. Friday, March 21, 1997, at his home after a three-month illness.

Mr. Webber was born Oct. 22, 1930, at Kansas City, Kan.

He graduated from Carthage High School in 1948.

He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. before retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Webb City.

He married May Margaret Schooler on March 21, 1952, at Carthage. She survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Daniel Webber, Joplin, and Steven Webber, Oologah, Okla.; a sister, Betty Allen, Joplin; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Carterville.

Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Webber, Steven Webber, Tom Clark, Pete Dixon, Kenny Creed and Brent Hood.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Liberty Baptist Church, Webb City.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.

Contributions may be made to the School Scholarship Fund or to the Spring River Baptist Association, in care of the funeral home.

Richard Bland

STOTTS CITY, Mo. - Services for Richard W. "Dick" Bland, 74, Stotts City, who died Thursday, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, southeast of Stotts City.

The Rev. Fred Fieker will officiate.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Okla.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Housh Funeral Home, Sarcoxie.

Daisy Henderson

AURORA, Mo. - Daisy Mae Henderson, 57, Aurora, died at 3:40 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 1997, in her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Henderson was born July 14, 1939, at Neillsville, Wis.

She was an elementary teacher and a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Aurora, the Aurora Education Association, the Missouri State Teachers Association, the International Reading Association and the Aurora Airport Board.

She married Ron Henderson on July 4, 1984, in Aurora. He survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Casey Shook, Lawrence, Kan.; two daughters, Traci King, Aurora, and Kristi Lundgren, Springfield; a stepson, Matt Henderson, St. Louis; four stepdaughters, Valerie Henderson and Grace Henderson, both of Manhattan, Kan., Mary Schutter, Corvalis, Ore., and Beth Hammond, Emporia, Kan.; her mother and stepfather, Daisy and Hal Harrill, Pacoima, Calif.; a brother, Bert Hart, hometown unavailable; two daughters, Judy Pernice, Simi Valley, Calif., and Linda Carver, Bouquet Canyon, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Services were Friday at the First Baptist Church, Aurora.

The Rev. Tommy Blair and the Rev. Harold Gold officiated.

Burial was in Maple Park Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora.

Contributions may be made to the Daisy Henderson Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Roy Long

NEOSHO, Mo. - Roy Lee Long, 79, 602 N. Jefferson Ave., Neosho, died at 9:05 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 1997, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a three-month illness.

Mr. Long was born Aug. 30, 1917, at Fairview. He was a lifelong area resident.

He worked for the Neosho street department for many years, retiring in August 1981.

He married Opal Pogue on Dec. 12, 1940, at Purdy. She survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Norma Ledford and Bonnie Phelan, both of Neosho; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, with Alan Gaines, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery at Stella.

Pallbearers will be Ron Pogue, Charles Weston, Steve Weston, Donald Weston, Danny Pogue, and Grover Pogue.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
