Max Langley
WEBB CITY, Mo. - James Maxwell "Max" Langley, 81, 609 S. Madison St., Webb City, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at a Joplin nursing home after a long illness.
Mr. Langley was born on May 27, 1915, in Webb City and was a lifetime resident.
He was a graduate of Webb City High School and earned a degree in engineering from Georgia Tech University in 1941.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Webb City.
There are no immediate survivors.
The body has been cremated.
Ashes were buried at Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City.
Pluma Marlowe
LOCKWOOD, Mo. - Pluma Frances Marlowe, 87, Lockwood, died at 1:33 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, after an illness.
Mrs. Marlowe was born April 15, 1909, in Woodward County, Okla.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church and Eastern Star Chapter No. 488, both of Greenfield, and Stone Craft Bible Study Group, Lockwood.
She married Raymond Willis Marlowe on Jan. 20, 1929, in Greenfield. He survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Nelson Tren Marlowe, South Greenfield; three daughters, Janet L. Holland, Lockwood, Raenita Kaye Pearson, Fort Worth, Texas, and Colleen Dee Baldwin, Green Pond, S.C.; two brothers, Austin Daniel, Greenfield, and Lyle Daniel, Lockwood; 16 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Greenfield (Mo.) Funeral Chapel.
Burial will be in Collins Cemetery, north of Lockwood.
Contributions may be made to the Collins Cemetery.
Viola Middleton
NEVADA, Mo. - Viola Belle Middleton, 87, Colorado Springs, Colo., a former Nevada resident, died Friday morning, Dec. 27, 1996, at a nursing home in Colorado Springs after a short illness.
Mrs. Middleton was born Jan. 4, 1909, at Hannon.
She was a 1927 graduate of Nevada High School.
She worked at Thornton National Bank, Nevada, for a short time.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nevada, United Methodist Women, Women's Society of Christian Service, the Ruth Earp and Leland Dalton Denman Circle and the Goodwill Sunday School Class.
She was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years and was active with Cottey College, Nevada.
She married Samuel Floyd Middleton on June 25, 1933, in Nevada. He died March 16, 1988.
Survivors include a son, Robert Middleton, Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Kathryn Viola Rasmussen, McLean, Va.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Nevada.
The Rev. Scott Hall will officiate.
Burial will be in Newton Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ferry Funeral Home.
Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Nevada.
Helen Pettus
PIERCE CITY, Mo. - Helen Louise Cole Pettus, 64, Pierce City, died at 2:23 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 1996, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Pettus was born Nov. 1, 1932, at Exeter.
She moved to Pierce City from Monett four months ago.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Chapel of Grace Church, Monett.
She married James Pettus on Dec. 11, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, James Pettus Jr., Junction City, Kan.; two daughters, Sheryl Baxter, Pierce City, and Sharon Francis, Joplin; four brothers, John Cole, Exeter, Cal Cole and Russell Cole, both of Wheaton, and Bill Cole, Cassville; a sister, Darlene McCracken, Purdy; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett, with the Rev. Jim Copley officiating.
Burial will be in the Pierce City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Chapel of Grace Church, in care of the funeral home.
James Reynolds
WEBB CITY, Mo. - James V. Reynolds, 85, Mill Valley, Calif., a former Webb City resident, died Friday, Dec. 6, 1996, at the Marin General Hospital, Marin County, Calif.
Mr. Reynolds was born in Matoon, Ill., and was a graduate of the University of St. Louis. He lived in Webb City at 903 S. Madison St. in the late 1940s and 50s. He operated the Navy Bean Mine and Mill near Wentworth, Mo. He also was associated with nationally known mining organizations including Gold Field Consolidated Mines of San Francisco, Calif., and United Zinc of St. Louis and New York, as well as other local mining organizations.
Mr. Reynolds moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where he continued his mineral mining activities in uranium. He lived in Albuquerque until 1993 when he retired and moved to Mill Valley, Calif.
His wife, Vera Reynolds, survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Lucinda Little, Pasadena, Calif., Caroline Chadwell, Albuquerque, and Susan Reynolds, Seattle, Wash.; a brother, John Reynolds, Santa Barbara, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services were held Thursday, Dec. 12, at the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Belvedere, Calif.
Arnold Riddle
NEOSHO, Mo. - Arnold B. Riddle, 95, 509 Denham Ave., Neosho, died at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after an illness.
Mr. Riddle was born Jan. 11, 1901, in Fayetteville, Ark. He came to Neosho in 1942 from California. He was self employed as a carpenter and farmer. He was a Baptist.
His first wife, Lois Blalock, died in June 1966. He married Mary Elora Carroll on April 5, 1967, in Kansas City. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Juanita Monroe, Neosho; a stepdaughter, Virginia Ball, Kansas City; a sister, Ruby Riddle, Neosho; six grandchildren; four step grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Purdy with the Rev. Todd Decker officiating.
Services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
Robert Roller
NEOSHO, Mo. - Robert Roller, 82, 931 Southeast Blvd., Neosho, died at 8:35 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 1996, at a Neosho nursing home after an illness.
Mr. Roller was born March 12, 1914, at Seligman. He moved to Fairview in 1936 and to Neosho in 1941. He worked at the M&A Railroad from 1932 to 1941, and then began working at Pet Milk in Neosho as a receiving foreman in the milk room. He retired in 1978.
He was a self-employed painter. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a former Kiwanis Club member.
He married Oleta F. Moore in 1932 at Seligman. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Robert Charles Roller, Downey, Calif.; four sisters, Lavella Sanders, Klamath Falls, Ore., Neva Robbins, Santee, Calif., Helen West, Claremore, Okla., and Thelma Mitchell, Springfield; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Clark Funeral Home Chapel. J.R. Hagen will officiate. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery, Seligman.
Pallbearers will be Dale Burr, Dick Reed, Dallas Kelly, Carl Ledbetter, Otto Studdard, Elton Gibson, Bob Gibson, Scott Wilson and Bill Spiva Sr.
The family will receive friends after 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Northside Baptist Church.
Contributions may be made to the Northside Baptist Church.
