Billy Sullivan
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Billy Gene Sullivan Sr., 74, 1015 W. First St., Webb City, died at 12:23 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Sullivan was born Jan. 8, 1922, at El Dorado, Kan. He lived in Webb City most of his life. He retired in 1984 from Safeway Bakery in Joplin,where he worked 15 years. He previously worked for DuPont Powder Company of Carl Junction and the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Bakery, Confectionary and Tobacco Workers Union.
He married Charlene Busby on April 28, 1946, in Columbus, Kan. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Billy G. Sullivan Jr., Riverton, Kan., and John Sullivan, Oronogo route 1; a daughter, Joyce Patton, Carthage; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City.
Ruthanna Thompson
NEVADA, Mo. - Services for Ruthanna Thompson, 68, Stickney, S.D., who died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, will be 2:30 p.m. today at Pugh Funeral Home, Golden City. The Rev. Herberg Rohe will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, west of Golden City.
Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Dorothy White
GREENFIELD, Mo. - Dorothy Jeanne White, 75, Springfield, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996, at an area nursing home after an illness. She was the mother of Mark Anthony White, Greenfield.
Mrs. White was born May 20, 1921, at Poplar Bluff. She graduated from Elfindale Girls Catholic School and Draughon Business College, Springfield. She was a former secretary for the Pentagon during World War II. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Springfield.
Her husband, John Wilbur White, preceded her in death. One son also preceded her in death.
Additional survivors include another son, Matthew Earl White, Springfield; six daughters, Dianne Marie Stricklin, Fort Worth, Texas, Susan Jane Swartz, Melinda Ann Pemberton, Judith Ann Williams and Theresa Jean Senarosa, all of Springfield, and Melissa Ann Mercuro, Calabasas, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Greenfield. The Rev. John Westhues will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Springfield.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Greenfield Funeral Chapel, with rosary services to follow.
Contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Greenfield.
Ruth Wigginton
NEOSHO, Mo. - Ruth V. Wigginton, 91, Neosho, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after an illness.
Mrs. Wigginton was born April 27, 1905, at Cullom County, Ala. She moved to Neosho in 1964 from Noel. She was a cook and had owned restaurants in Noel and Neosho.
She was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ, Neosho.
Survivors include a son, Richard Wigginton, Philadelphia, Pa.
Her body has been donated to the University of Missouri School of Medicine, Columbia.
No services are planned.
Arrangements are under the direction of Woodard-Freund-Thompson Funeral Home, Neosho.
Helen Atteberry
Helen Atteberry, 74, formerly of the Pierce City area, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
Mrs. Atteberry was born Sept. 3, 1922. She lived in the Pierce City area until she moved to Joplin a year ago. She was a member of Wesleyan Holiness Alliance Church, Diamond.
Her husband, the Rev. James Atteberry, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruby Mason, Chanute, Kan., and Opal Wrigley, Joplin; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lakin Funeral Home, Pierce City. The Rev. Donald Hazelwood and the Rev. Jody Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery near Wentworth.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Bessie LeGate
Bessie E. LeGate, 90, 2810 Jackson Ave., died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after two weeks of ill health.
Mrs. LeGate was born Feb. 8, 1906, in Chadron, Neb.
She moved to Joplin 18 months ago.
She lived most of her life in Fairview, Okla.
She was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the family farm.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
She married Clyde R. LeGate on Aug. 12, 1926 in Jewelsburg, Colo. He died in July 1958.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Shabatura, Carl Junction, and Bonnie Fountain, Fairview, Okla.; a son, Norman LeGate, Key Largo, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to Fairview Funeral Home, Fairview.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Isabela, Okla., Cemetery.
Local arrangements were under the direction of the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City.
John McMullen
John T. McMullen, 89, 605 Walnut Ridge Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at his home after a short illness.
Mr. McMullen was born Aug. 16, 1907, at Joplin.
He was a lifetime resident.
He worked for Tamko Inc. for 22 years and then was a self-employed mechanic.
He was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church.
He married Retha L. McMullen on Dec. 24, 1928. She died March 14, 1996.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth McMullen, Joplin; two sisters, Bertha Wright, Prescott, Ariz., and LaLee Belcher, address unknown; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
The Rev. Brent Davis will officiate.
Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
