Mahle White
Mahle M. White, 101, died at 6:07 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at a local nursing home.
Mrs. White was born Oct. 24, 1895, at Adrian.
She was a lifetime Joplin resident.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Anti-Theft Association.
She married James E. White in 1916 in Joplin. He died Sept. 1, 1982.
Survivors include four sons, James White, Joplin, Charles White, Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Bob White, Mascoutah, Ill., and Henry Jake White, Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Juanita Woodin, Joplin; 22 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City.
Jacque Jetton will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Charles Anderson
CARTHAGE, Mo. - Charles C. Anderson, 54, Carthage route 2, died at 7:11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at McCune Brooks Hospital after a year of ill health.
Mr. Anderson was born Dec. 18, 1942, in Jasper County.
He was a lifelong resident of Carthage.
He was formerly employed at Carthage Marble and Valley Sanitation.
He married Betty Crahan on July 17, 1970, in Carthage. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Paul Anderson, Carthage; a daughter, Betty Ann Anderson, Carthage; two brothers, Jack Thorn, Aurora, and Jim Thorn, Pierce City; two sisters, Lela Crahan, Carthage, and Barbara Goss, Mesa, Ariz.; and a grandson.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Fullerton Cemetery, Carthage, under the direction of Knell Mortuary.
Jim Crahan will officiate.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
Polly Bell
NEOSHO, Mo. - Polly Bailey Bell, 75, 423 E. McKinney St., died at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, after a short illness.
Mrs. Bell was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Little Rock, Ark.
She was graduated from Neosho High School in 1939.
She retired in 1981 as a librarian for the Water and Waste Water Technical School in the Crowder Complex, Neosho.
She had worked for 17 years as a secretary for the Civil Services in Milk Market Administration, Dodge City, Kan., then in the same position for Oklahoma Milk Producers, Lawton, Okla.
She was a member of Neosho First Baptist Church, where she was director of library services and a volunteer in the children's nursery and the Women's Missionary Union.
She married Marion L. Belle on June 30, 1978, in Neosho.
He survives.
Additional survivors include a stepson, Chris Bell, Crossville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Kristy Covey, Neosho; two sisters, Edra Putman, Granby, and Jean Marcucci, state of Florida; and four step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Neosho.
The Rev. Todd Decker will officiate.
Burial will be in Neosho IOOF Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J. Putman, Tom Putman, Bill Bailey, Dale Palmer, Homer Sturdevant and Richard Tink.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church library, in care of the funeral home.
Loeda Chapman
WENTWORTH, Mo. - Loeda F. Chapman, 80, Wentworth route 1, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at Cox Medical Center-South, Springfield, after a short illness.
Mrs. Chapman was born Jan. 14, 1916 in Wentworth.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the former Sylvian Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She had been a 4-H leader for 30 years.
She was a member of Lawrence County Extension Council and the Lawrence County EEOC Committee.
She married Harry Chapman on Aug. 9, 1936 in Pierce City.
He died on Dec. 4, 1995.
She is survived by three sons, James L. Chapman, Lenexa, Kan., Dale Chapman, Carlinville, Ill., and Donald Chapman, Fredonia, Kan.; five daughters, Carolyn F. Manley, Joplin, Charlotte Conner, Monett, Anita Marcoat and Linda Marcoat, both of Greenville, Ill., and Lana Moore, Sarcoxie; a brother, Harlan Robinson, Wentworth; two sisters, Nadine Chapman, Pierce City, and Ellen Gaertner, Stotts City; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakin Funeral Chapel.
The Rev. Robert Gould, the Rev. Don Crockett, and the Rev. Richard Manley will officiate.
Burial will be in Sarcoxie Cemetery.
Order of the Eastern Star services will be at 7 p.m. today at the Lakin Funeral Home, Pierce City, with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. today.
Contributions may be made to the Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Queen Esther Chapter of the Eastern Star, Aurora.
Amy Dyer
MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Amy O. Dyer, 91, of the McDowell community near Monett, died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at a Mount Vernon nursing home.
Mrs. Dyer was born Jan. 21, 1905, near Osa in Barry County.
She was a homemaker.
She was the last surviving charter member of McDowell Methodist Church, which was established in 1918.
She married Morris Dyer on Nov. 4, 1922, in Carthage. He died Feb. 4, 1996.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Marbut, McDowell community; a brother, Emory Melton, Cassville; two stepbrothers, Austin Davis and Doyle Davis, both of Monett; a stepsister, Edna Mae Eckman, Springfield; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
The Rev. Ron Fieker and the Rev. Bill Bennett will officiate.
Burial will be in Calton Cemetery, south of Pleasant Ridge.
Friends may call at the funeral home today or Saturday morning.

Gary Howerton
WEBB CITY, Mo. - Gary L. Howerton, 44, 613 W. Second St., Webb City, died at 1 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Howerton was born May 1, 1952, in Carthage.
He lived in Carthage until a year ago when he moved to Webb City.
He was graduated from Carthage High School in 1971.
He was employed as a machine operator at Schreiber Cheese Co.
He was a member of the Carthage Bowling Association.
He married Janice Coffey on March 8, 1974, in Joplin. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Marie Williamson, Bentonville, Ark., Amanda Sanders, Carthage, and Karen Howerton, of the home; his mother, Mrs. Viola Howerton, Carthage; five brothers, Ron Howerton, Roger Howerton, Mark Howerton and Fred Howerton, all of Carthage, and Steven Howerton, Pacific; three sisters, Donna Lasiter and Connie McCoy, both of Carthage, and Bonnie Garin, Virginia Beach, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Knell Mortuary.
The Rev. Joe Rychcik will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
Ronald Jacks
METZ, Mo. - Ronald Ray Jacks, 39, Metz, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, after a sudden illness.
Mr. Jacks was born March 4, 1957, at Nevada.
He was a lifetime resident of the Metz area.
He was a custom sprayer for Metz Grain.
Survivors include his parents, Walter and Deloris Jacks, Horton; three brothers, Walter Lynn Jacks, Rich Hill, Gregory Allen Jacks, Horton, and Vance Lee Jacks, Nevada; maternal grandparents R.L. and Anna Mae Willson, Horton; and paternal grandmother, Blanche Jacks, Metz.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Balltown Cemetery, Horton.
Friends may call until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
