Wayne Shackelford
LAMAR, Mo. - Wayne Shackelford, 71, Lamar, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, Lamar, after a sudden illness.
Mr. Shackelford was born July 12, 1925, at Flint, Kan.
He had lived in Barton County for 20 years.
He worked as an aerospace engineer for Rockwell International in California.
He had been a chief deputy for the Barton County Sheriff's Department.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Golden City.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He married Janet Mae Meuser at Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Gene Scott Shackelford and Paul Scott Shackelford, both of Lamar; three brothers, Joe Shackelford, Oklahoma City, Okla., Glen Shackelford, San Angelo, Texas, and Hugh Shackelford, Anaheim, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.
Visitation will follow the service until 7:30 p.m.
The body will be cremated and buried at Lake Cemetery, Lamar.
Pauline Sippy
MONETT, Mo. - Pauline Margaret Witt Sippy, 86, Monett, died at 4:28 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, at a Monett nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Sippy was born Aug. 20, 1910, at Vinita, Okla.
She lived 40 years in Bartlesville, Okla., where she and her husband operated Sippy's Antique Shop.
She moved to Monett in 1990.
She attended the First Presbyterian Church, Bartlesville, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Monett.
She married Milford Sippy. He died in 1980.
Survivors include a son, David Sippy, Monett; a daughter, Betty Lou Breedlove, Fort Smith, Ark.; a brother, Eugene Witt, Bartlesville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A son preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery, Vinita, with the Rev. Mark Mildren officiating.
Friends may call at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett, at their convenience until the day of the service.
Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
Frona Chastain
Frona E. Chastain, 88, Joplin, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at a local nursing home after an illness.
Mrs. Chastain was born May 9, 1908, in Miller, Ohio.
She was a longtime area resident.
She retired in 1973 after 40 years as an inspector for the former Miller Manufacturing Co., Joplin.
She married Earl Chastain on Aug. 27, 1927, in Joplin. He died in 1964.
Survivors include a son, Curtis E. Chastain, Merced, Calif.; two daughters, Audrey Garrison, Joplin, and Georgia Cardell, Bradenton, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The body has been taken for cremation.
No services are planned.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
Richard Cox
Richard G. Cox, 63, 1501 Valley, died at 5:29 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at his home after a sudden illness.
Mr. Cox was born March 23, 1933, in Webb City.
He moved to the Joplin area in 1968 from Detroit, Mich.
He was employed as a letter carrier for the Postal Service in Los Angeles, Calif., and Detroit.
After he returned from California, he worked for Midcon Cables Co., Joplin.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include four brothers, Dan Cox Jr., Los Angeles, Clifton B. Cox, Peaneck, N.J., Earl V. Cox and Charles R. Cox Sr., both of Joplin; and two sisters, Ramona K. Gilmore, Joplin, and Ida Carol Grayson, Fayetteville, N.C.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, Joplin.
The Rev. Harry Givens will officiate.
Burial will be in Parkway Cemetery, Joplin.
Hulda Hamm
Hulda Hamm, 78, 2227 Illinois Ave., died at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Hamm was born April 25, 1918, in Hoberg.
She moved to Joplin in 1945 from Freistatt.
She was employed as a housekeeper and for many years as a cook for Martin Luther School, Joplin.
She retired in 1983 as a pastry cook for the Joplin Woman's Club.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women's Missionary Guild, the Altar Guild and was a former president of the Ruth Guild, all of Joplin.
She was a former choir member and had served on numerous church boards and committees in Joplin.
She was a volunteer at Crosslines of Joplin.
She married Albert Henry Hamm on Nov. 7, 1942, in Joplin. He died on Nov. 29, 1964.
Also preceding her in death were a son and a daughter.
Survivors include three sons, William P. Hamm, Anchorage, Alaska, David C. Hamm, Pierre, S.D., and Donald K. Hamm, White, S.D.; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Ford, Joplin; three brothers, Ferd Quade, Verona, Pete Quade, Carthage, and Mike Quade, Naples, Fla.; three sisters, Frieda Birner, Mission Viejo, Calif., Doris Faulkenberry, Walnut Creek, Calif., and Helen Bobera, Palantine, Ill.; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Joplin. Lowell Rossow, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Freistatt (Mo.) Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
Contributions may be made to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League or to the organ fund at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in care of the funeral home.
Holland Jennings
Holland Lester Jennings, 73, Stanberry, died at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at the Joplin home of a sister, Virginia Barger, 1220 Garden Grove Road. He had been in ill health the past two months.
Mr. Jennings was born Oct. 4, 1923, at Alden, Kan.
He returned to Stanberry in 1982 after he retired.
He was a radar operator for the Naval Air Force during World War II and served in the South Pacific.
He worked for 30 years as a station agent with the Norfolk Western Railroad.
He was a member of American Legion Post 260 in Stanberry.
Additional survivors include two brothers, Wayne Jennings, Stanberry, and the Rev. James Jennings, Spokane, Wash.; and two sisters, Evelyn Corley, Stanberry, and Helen Groom, Aurora.
The body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be held next spring at Stanberry.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Victor Strelczyk
Victor Eugene Strelczyk, 65, Joplin, died at 3 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 1996, at a local nursing home after an illness.
Mr. Strelczyk was born Sept. 13, 1931, in Austwell, Texas.
He moved to Joplin in October 1995 from Victoria, Texas.
He was an oil field dispatcher for 13 years and worked as a salesman for Southern Fence Co., both in Victoria.
He served in the Army from 1950 to 1953.
He was a Catholic.
He married Dorothy L. Marquart on July 21, 1971, in Victoria. She survives.
Additional survivors include two stepsons, Al Sassin, Hurricane, Utah, and James Sassin, Luling, La.; two stepdaughters, Shirley Sassin, Joplin, and Pauline Young, Corpus Christi, Texas; two brothers, Marcellus Strelczyk, Fort Worth, Texas, and Herman Strelczyk, San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Katie Luttrell and Marie Ruth Kainer, both of Victoria; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin.
Military honors will be conducted by members of Robert S. Thurman American Legion Post No. 13, Joplin.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
