David Essary
WENTWORTH, Mo. - David Howard Essary, 49, Wentworth, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at a nursing home in Monett after one year of ill health.
Mr. Essary was born Nov. 12, 1947, at Wewoka, Okla.
He had lived in the Wentworth area for many years.
He owned and operated D&J Landscaping in Wentworth before his illness.
He formerly worked for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union as a grounds man and had been a maintenance man at Wildwood Elementary School in Sarcoxie.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Sarcoxie.
He married Judith Fischer on Jan. 12, 1970, at Pierce City. She survives.
Additional survivors include his mother, Artie Tice, Roswell, N.M.; his stepmother, Rena Essary, Monett; three brothers, Maurice Kelley, Springfield, Wayne Tice, Artesia, N.M., and Jerry Ray Tice, Roswell; and five sisters, Betty Kelley, Monett, Janice Fischer, Pierce City, Sylvia Collins, New York City, N.Y., Sandra Barborur, Roswell, and Frances Steck, address unavailable.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Housh Funeral Home, Sarcoxie.
The Rev. Don Sullivan will officiate.
Burial will be in Clear Creek Cemetery, south of Sarcoxie.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
M.G. McFerrin
LAMAR, Mo. - M.G. "Mac" McFerrin, 73, Lamar, died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, after three weeks of ill health.
Mr. McFerrin was born May 1, 1923, at Brownville, Neb.
He had lived in Lamar most of his life.
He had been a farmer, truck driver, and owned and operated several service stations in Lamar.
He also was a school bus driver for the Lamar R-1 schools and was a retired Lamar city employee.
He was a Methodist.
He married Rosalie Davidson on June 30, 1942, at Marshfield. She survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Darst, Alma, Ark., Sharon Luebbert, Camdenton, and Vickie Pabst, Holts Summit; a sister, Mary Ellen Schmidt, Beatrice, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pennsboro Cemetery, South Greenfield.
Pallbearers will be Brian Dwayne Campbell, Jody Alan Fox, Brandon E., Pabst, Mark Zweifel, Bryan Werdehausen and Melvern Robertson.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, Lamar.

William Messer
NEOSHO, Mo. - William T. Messer, 86, 621 Walnut Drive, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after an illness.
Mr. Messer was born April 13, 1910, at Neosho, where he was a lifetime resident.
He graduated in 1931 from Neosho High School.
He worked for the Charles North Co. and Esquire Laundry, both formerly of Neosho.
He retired as a security guard in 1975 from La-Z-Boy Midwest, Neosho.
He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, Neosho.
He married Frances Herring on June 20, 1937, at Nevada. She survives.
Also surviving are a sister, Naoma Cole, Joplin.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Gibson Cemetery, Neosho.
The Rev. Alan Brock will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Glen Carden, Scott Wilson, Harold Cole, Donald Jones, Richard Cole and Alan Cole.
Arrangements are under the direction of Woodard-Freund-Thompson Funeral Home, Neosho.
Helen Hayes
Helen C. Hayes, 66, Foxridge Circle, Manhattan, Kan., formerly of Joplin, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Hayes was born April 17, 1930, in Joplin.
She was graduated from Baxter Springs High School and the University of Kansas at Lawrence.
She was office manager for Stan Hayes Enterprises Inc., Manhattan.
She moved to Manhattan in 1986 from Topeka, Kan., where she had lived for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, PEO, and was past president of the Memorial Hospital Foundation, all of Manhattan.
She married Stan Hayes on Dec. 28, 1986, in Topeka. He survives.
Additional survivors include a brother, Jimmie Maryman, Baxter Springs; and four sisters, Betty Kirk and Pat Paxson, both of Baxter Springs, Carolyn Schept, Walnut, Iowa, and Nancy Cardin, Pittsburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Manhattan.
The Rev. Robert J. Sanders will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan.

Fletta Newberry
Flettas E. Newberry, 78, 1226 Montana Place, died at 7:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 1996, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after six months of ill health.
Mrs. Newberry was born July 9, 1918, in Joplin and was a lifetime resident.
She was a housekeeper and elevator operator for several years at the Frisco Building in Joplin.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Joplin, Rebekah Lodge No. 97 of Joplin, and Ruth Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
She also served as a volunteer for 20 years with Crosslines Ministries.
She married Joe Bert Newberry on June 28, 1938, in Joplin.
He died March 31, 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlott Woodard, Noel; three brothers, Clyde Doss Jr. and Carroll Doss, both of Joplin, and Lloyd Doss, Raytown; a sister, Lodemiah Johnson, Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
The Rev. Fred Pugh will officiate.
Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
Contributions may be made to Crosslines Ministries or the National Kidney Foundation, in care of the mortuary.
Dewey Peavler
Dewey Peavler Sr., 75, 819 Monroe Ave., died at 12:10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 1996, at a Joplin nursing home after a long illness.
Mr. Peavler was born Sept. 15, 1921, at Mountain Grove.
He was a masonry contractor for 43 years before he retired.
He also taught masonry construction at Franklin Technical School in Joplin for 11 years.
He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God church.
He was a former member for 40 years of Second Assembly of God Church, where he drove the church bus for 11 years.
He volunteered with youth baseball in Joplin for 20 years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific.
He married Edna Lucille Smith on Jan. 21, 1946, in Joplin. She survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Linda Crowl, Sue Curlee and Judy Carver, all of Joplin; two sons, Dewey "Sonny" Peavler Jr. and William "Billy" Peavler, both of Joplin; a brother, Delbert Peavler, Joplin; four sisters, Marie Harvey, Helen Valpatti and Bobbie Cooper, all of the state of California, and Rose Hardcastle, the state of Tennessee; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
The Rev. Orville Garrison will officiate.
Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Phillips, Jeff Peavler, Billy Smith, Randy Dorris, Kenny Berard and Jerry Herron.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the mortuary.
Ivan Cooper
GOODMAN, Mo. - Ivan "Bud" Cooper, 48, Goodman, died at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996, at Freeman Neosho Hospital, Neosho, after a long illness.
Mr. Cooper was born Feb. 12, 1948, at Anderson.
He had lived in the Goodman area most of his life.
He was a member of Goodman First Baptist Church.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He married Rolla Hollandsworth on May 15, 1972, at Miami, Okla. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Rowdy Cooper and Scott Barnes, both of Goodman; a daughter, Robin Thurston, Joplin; his mother, Pearl Cooper, Goodman; five sisters, Effie Long and Kathy Atkins, both of Goodman, Kay Eberle, Collinsville, Okla., Sue Schroeder, Pryor, Okla., and Verna Mitchell, Aurora; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Goodman First Baptist Church.
The Rev. Reece Morrow will officiate.
Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Goodman.
Friends may call after noon today at Ozark Funeral Home, Goodman, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
