Maxine Schafer
Maxine J. Schafer was born March 24, 1926, and passed away Feb. 12, 2007, at St. Louis, Mo., at the age of 80 years.
She was the daughter of the late Fred and Edith (Copley) Jackson.
She was united in marriage to Ernest Q. Schafer, and to this marriage two sons were born.
Maxine was a member of DeSoto Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lillian Panalasigui and Dorothy Williams; and three brothers, Ronnie, Fred and Jerry Jackson.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Q. Schafer Sr., Hillsboro, Mo.; two sons, Ernie Schafer and wife, Tina, West Plains, Mo., and Ed Schafer and wife, Debbie, Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Duane, Alicia, Aaron and Ryan; seven great-grandchildren, Jackie, Melody, Clayton, Jacob, Emily, Taylor and Randi; three half-brothers, Harry, John and Richard Jackson; one half-sister, Pauline Jackson Simpson.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, family and by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were Feb. 15, 2007, in Wilson Mortuary Chapel, Salem, Mo., with Brother Glen Claxton officiating.
Music was by Tom Fleener.
Pallbearers were grandchildren, Aaron, Ryan, Duane and Alicia Schafer, and great-grandchildren, Jacob Montgomery and Clayton Schafer.
Interment was in Jadwin Cemetery.

Seth Patrick Roy passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Mo.
He was born Feb. 24, 2007, in Springfield, the son of Alan and Melanie Henry Roy.
He is survived by his parents, Alan and Melanie Roy, Battlefield, Mo.; one brother, Gavin Roy, of the family home; paternal grandfather, Ken, and wife, Cheryl Roy, Springfield; paternal grandmother, Becky, and husband, Ron Branson, Ozark, Mo.; maternal grandparents, Rex and Teresa Henry, West Plains, Mo.; great-grandmother, Edna Ruth Mavity, Ringgold, Ga.; great-grandfather, Elbert Surritte, Pottersville, Mo.; and two uncles, Brad Henry, West Plains, and David and wife, Lanna Roy, Springfield.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery, Pomona, Mo., under the direction of Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Springfield.
Orval Fields
Graveside services for Orval Fields, 92, West Plains, Mo., will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2007, at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Fields died 1:07 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, in West Vue Nursing Center.
He was born June 4, 1914, in West Plains to William Arthur and Sadie Ross Fields.
On Nov. 12, 1938, he was married at West Plains to Mabel Naomi Jennings, who preceded him in death June 13, 1986.
In February 1988, Mr. Fields was married at Picher, Okla., to Delene Pickering, who preceded him in death Oct. 6, 2001.
Before his retirement in 1982, Mr. Fields had been a truck driver for 48 years.
He was of the Pentecostal faith and had attended Harbor of Hope Church.
He is survived by four children, Jack Fields, Pat Fields and Linda Fields, all of West Plains, and William Fields, wife, Lois, Webb City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Cleo Fields, Norman Fields, Shannon Fields and Billy Fields; one sister, Helen North, West Plains; one niece, Sharon Bode; one nephew, Jerry North; and several cousins.
His parents, wives, brother, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law preceded him in death.
Mr. Fields will lie in state noon Thursday until noon Friday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Shirley Marie Rader, 74, Saint Helen, Mich. (formerly of Willow Springs, Mo.) will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Pine Grove Church Cemetery in Willow Springs, with the Rev. Lloyd Collins officiating.
The service will be followed by a luncheon for friends and family at the Willow Springs Lions Club.
Mrs. Rader passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc, Mich.
She was born Oct. 5, 1932, in Coleman, Mich., the daughter of Leonard and Helen (Hermesch) Smith.
Surviving are her two sons, Leonard and wife, Linda Shaw, of Lennon, Mich., and Randy and wife, Heidi Rader, of West Plains; daughter Susan and husband, Jeff Taylor, of Flint, Mich.; sister Mary Jane Madden, Flint; brother Raymond Shanks of Mt. Morris, Mich.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, special friend Paul Carpenter and a host of friends and loved ones from Saint Helen, Mich.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Elwood Rader, and son, Harvey Elwood Rader Jr.

Elizabeth died 6:51 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007, at her home. She was born Oct. 2, 1999, in West Plains to Jay and Tamara Hewitt Croney.
Elizabeth was a first grade student at Fair View School and attended Davis Creek Church.
She is survived by her parents, Jay and Tammy Croney, West Plains; two brothers, Anthony Croney and Austin Croney, of the family home; grandparents, Jerry and Mary Croney, West Plains, and Carol Hewitt, Rock Island, Ill.; great-grandparents, Marylene Romans, William Romans Sr. and Chester Croney, all of West Plains; aunts and uncles, Tana and Jason Croney, Travis Croney, Jolene Bennett, all of West Plains, and Mindy Hewitt, Doniphan, Mo.; special great-uncle, Gary Taylor, Marshfield, Mo.; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her great-grandparents, Gertrude Croney, Neva Weaver and Amis Hewitt, and great-aunt, Brenda Dunnihoo, preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Richard Dale Philpott, 50, West Plains, Mo., will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, at Spring Creek Church under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Philpott died Friday, March 2, 2007, in London, Ohio. He was born July 17, 1956, in West Plains to Lee Olen Tackitt and Rosa Lee Philpott Sutton and was raised by his grandmother, Rosa Pearl Philpott.
On Dec. 27, 1991, he was married at Salem, Ark., to Denise Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Philpott, of the family home; six children, Caleb Hoover, Red Oak, Iowa, Ricky Philpott Butler, Trent Young, Monica Kesling, all of West Plains, Afton McCall, Orlando, Fla., and Lindsay McCall, Willow Springs, Mo.; two special grandchildren, Mackenzie Kesling and Dakota Kesling; his father, Lee Olen Tackitt, wife, Edie, Viola, Ark.; his mother, Rosa Sutton, husband, Norris, West Plains; four brothers, Leland Tackitt, Caulfield, Mo., Keith Tackitt, wife, Brenda, Springfield, Mo., Kevin Tackitt, wife, Madonna, and Kevin Sutton, West Plains; seven sisters, Charlotte Schroeder, husband, Jerry, Carroll, Iowa, Charlene Johnson, husband, Eric, West Plains, Lisa Downs, husband, David, Frost, Texas, Angela Kirchner, husband, Duane, Grant, Iowa, Audrey Johnson, husband, Allen, Essex, Iowa, Nona (Tooter) Erickson, husband, Terry, Lewis, Iowa, and Mona Mattes, husband, Bob, West Plains; several nieces and nephews; many aunts and uncles including his special aunt and uncle, Ardena Moerschel and Jim Philpott; several cousins; and his special friends, Donna Vincent and Dalton Henson.

Noel Chapin
Noel Chapin, 97, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007. Noel was born Jan. 9, 1910, in Howell County (West Plains), Mo., the second of six children born to John Austin and Laura (Marshall) Chapin.
Noel was 11 when his father died, and Noel committed himself to helping his young mother and siblings make a living on the family farm. Noel was one of 12 members of the first graduating class of Brandsville High School. At midnight on his graduation night, Noel boarded a train bound for Los Angeles where he pursued more education and jobs that would help him support his family in Missouri. Noel proved himself to be quite a go-getter during the Depression. He quickly landed a job with the Santa Fe Railroad, and attended business school in Los Angeles. He worked for Kettleman North Dome Oil Company in California. Kettleman Hills, Calif.
Early in World War II, Noel joined the Army-Air Corps as a private, and was promoted to captain while serving with the 326th Ferry Division which deployed supplies from England to Omaha Beach and Germany during the occupation. Noel developed and implemented a supply management procedure that is used by the military today. Noel relocated to Dallas, Texas, in 1947 and founded the Noel R. Chapin Company. Noel married Anita Henry of Rising Star, Texas in 1950. Under his leadership and Anita’s encouragement, the Noel R. Chapin Company become the largest wholesale picture frame supplier in North America. He owned and operated the Noel R. Chapin Company for 50 years.
The Professional Picture Framers Association recognized Noel with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Noel and Anita provided the vision and financial resources to establish the Noel R. and Anita Henry Chapin Art Building at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. After Anita’s death in 1997, Noel joined the First United Methodist Church of Richardson and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Noel was proud of his Chapin family heritage and West Plains roots. Noel is survived by brothers Howard Chapin, Fresno, Calif., Boyd Chapin, Muskogee, Okla., Dr. John Chapin, Clinton, Mo.; cousin, Lois Chapin Moore, West Plains; nine nieces and nephews.
