Merle G. (Flood) Loveland
Merle G. (Flood) Loveland, 92, Springfield, went to be with Jesus at 4:24 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2003 in Cox South hospital. Merle, a homemaker, was born December 11, 1910 in Stone County, MO, the daughter of Jasper Newton and Margaret Viola (Richards) Flood. She was united in marriage to Curtis E. Loveland on July 26, 1935 in Springfield. She was a member of Golden Avenue Baptist Church. Her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were very precious to her. In her early years, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, sewing and listening to her husband play music. Later in life she enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. Her parents, her husband, and a stepson, James C. Loveland preceded her in death. Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Sylvia and Bobby J. Harris of Galena, Patricia and John Marshall of Springfield, Dixie and Allen Hall of Galena, and Judith and Toby Rowell of Windsor, SC; a brother and his wife, Richard and Gladys Flood of Highlandville; 11 grandchildren, Jackie and Michele Harris, Jill and Tim Reinke, Bobby R. and Melissa Harris, Patty Lester, John Jr. and Mary Marshall, Brandon and Kelly Hall, Amy and Jason Murphy, Andrea and Jack Highsmith, Andrew Rowell, Amanda Rowell, and Jamie Loveland Stevens; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003 in Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Rivermonte. Burial will follow in Flood Cemetery, Highlandville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Otis Olen Glenn Jr.
Otis Olen Glenn Jr., 58, Springfield, entered eternal life with our Lord, Thursday, July 10, 2003. Otis was born the youngest of five children to Otis Sr. and Allie Glenn, on March 13, 1945. He grew up in Willard, MO. He was united in marriage on Oct. 1, 1962, to Joyce Anita Fitzpatrick, who was his lifelong partner and love with whom he shared six wonderful children. During the early years of their marriage, Otis worked and then retired from the Dayco Co. Later, through, the love of western memorabilia, he was the epitome of an old west trader. He enjoyed participating and displaying at gun and knife shows, and made numerous friends, and was known as a shrewd and knowledgeable gun trader. He continued with his passion for trading on the Internet and continued collecting guns, knives, saddles, paintings, and other western and American Indian artifacts. His friends enjoyed learning and spending time with him trading. Otis was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Sr. and Allie Glenn, and his brother-in-law, Larry Carden. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; six children and their spouses, Bill and Sylvia Glenn, Gina and Pat McClanahan, Patrick and Cherie Glenn, Christal and Aaron Stokes, Michael and Brooke Glenn, all of Springfield, MO, Sonya and Roy Koyama of Camarillo, CA; two brothers and their wives, John and Marty Glenn, Springfield, and Joe and Linda Glenn, Willard; two sisters, Betty Carden, Willard, and Maxine and John Patison, Springfield; his sister-in-law and husband, Cheri and Al Wilkerson, Springfield; ten grandchildren, Christina, Matt, Nicholas, Rhys, Jessica, Paityn, Christopher, Madilyn, Isabella, and baby Jaxon. He will be remembered by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2003 in Walnut Lawn DeGraffenreid-Wood Funeral Chapel in Springfield, with Reverend Monsignor Thomas E. Reidy, VG officiating. Burial will follow in Robberson Prairie Cemetery. Visitation and Prayer service will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Thomas L. Downing
Thomas L. Downing, 49, the son of John and Dorthea Worrell Downing was born January 9, 1954. He passed away on Friday evening, July 11, 2003 in his home following a four-month illness. Tom was born in LaCygne, Kan,, and formerly lived in Prescott, Kan., before moving to Ash Grove in 1980. He was employed with Ash Grove Farm Supply for 23 years as a manager. He was a member of the Kelley Baptist Church, Ash Grove. He was with the Ash Grove Fire Dept. for 20 years, and active with the Nathan Boone Rendezvous Committee for 15 years and the Ash Grove Boosters Club. Tom Downing and Sue Rhoads were united in marriage on June 22, 1974. To this union, four children were born. Together they were privileged to share over 29 years. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Downing on November 4, 1976; and one brother, George Downing. He is survived by his loving wife, Sue of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathon and Ginnie Downing, and Nicholas and Shawna Downing; one daughter, Kristy and husband Richard Battles, all of Ash Grove, Mo.; two grandsons, Alexander Downing and Dallas Battles; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Annie Downing of Belfair, Kan., Russell and Gail Downing of Russell, Kan., and Walter Downing of Larned, Kan.; two sisters, Mary and husband Ernest Workman, and Connie Mason, all of Emporia, Kan.; several nieces and nephews; surrogate chidren, Jackson and Kim Jones, Keith Evans, Clint and Dustin Brown, Katie Maggard, Samantha Driskill, Derek Golden and many others; extended family; and a host of friends. Services wil be held Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at 10 a.m. in Wilson Brim-Daniel Chapel with Rev. Darrell Slatten officiating with interment in Kelley Cemetery, Ash Grove. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Roy Drewry
James Roy Drewry, 66, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2003. He was born August 27, 1936 in Eula, Ark., to Monroe and Vona Drewry and was united in marriage to Joyce Clark Drewry on September 1, 1956, who preceded him in death. He was employed by McKesson Corp., formerly Mass Merchandise, of Harrison, Ark., until retirement in 1998. Others who preceded him in death were his parents and father-in-law, Dewey Clark and brother-in-law, Duane Bishop. He is survived by his son, Steve and wife Pam of Springfield, Mo., their children, Hunter and Haley; son Michael of Kimberling City, Mo., and his son, Sean; daughter Marilyn of Tyler, Texas, her children, Ashley, Brandon and Connor; daughter Beth of Ozark, Mo., her daughter, Paige; sister Maxine Crabtree of Springfield, Mo.; niece Kathy Hopkins of Ozark, Mo., and husband Joe; sister Faye Reddell of Harrison, Ark., her husband Verl, and their daughter, Joann Baker and husband Mike of Atkins, Ark.; special sister-in-law and very close friend, Doris Bishop, Harrison, Ark.; and Doris' sons, John and Cindy, Little Rock, Ark., Ralph, Yellville, Ark., Alan and Jill, Springfield, Mo., Chad and Shelly Bishop of Harrison, Ark. Roy has touched the lives of many people throughout his life. The family takes great comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his wife of 42 years, Joyce, whom he has deeply missed in her passing. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all health care staff at Cox South Hospital and Ferrell-Duncan Clinic of Springfield, Mo. for their love and care in treating our father's illness over the last five years. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, in Coffman Funeral Home, Harrison, Ark. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Open visitation is this evening in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ozark Dialysis Patient Fund, 3525 S. National, Suite 108, Springfield, MO 65807.

Clara Bell Hillhouse
Clara Bell Hillhouse, 93, Springfield, Mo., was welcomed into Heaven by Jesus and loved ones on July 12, 2003. She was born April 5, 1910 to LaNora Jane and Finis Bell in Mt. Vernon and grew up there. Clara married the love of her life, Hal Knox Hillhouse, who along with her parents and sister, Gladys, preceded her in death. Together they raised three children, Sam, Jane, and Ruthie, who survive her. Her favorite job was being Munner to her nine grandchildren. They loved just spending time with her, playing games, or benefiting from her patience, endless energy, and her spunky sense of humor. They will forever be grateful that she was their grandmother, encourager, special friend, and confidant. She was loved and will greatly be missed by her children plus their spouses, Sam and Mireille Hillhouse, Jane and Bill Pitt, and Ruthie and Gary Richardson; her grandchildren and their mates, Roger and Lise' Hillhouse, Doug and Lisa Pitt, William and Jennifer Pitt, Julie and Rob Neal, Melinda and John Snelson, Michael and Trina Richardson, Marci and Chadd Caperton, Mark Richardson, and Donovan Richardson; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, Jayme Ruth, Connie, and Carol; cousin, Naomi; special friends, Missy, the Beelers, and many others. Anyone who shared in her life will remember her sweet smile, gentle spirit, positive attitude, and the twinkle in her eyes. Clara truly endured life's trials with a peace that could only come from knowing Jesus. She instilled in her children a strong faith in God and wanted nothing more than knowing that all her family and friends will be together again in Heaven. A special thanks to many of the people from Primrose Place who cared for Clara with genuine affection for many years. Lloyd Dean Wolfe
Lloyd Dean Wolfe, 71, Springfield, left this life on Friday, July 11th, 2003. He was born January 4, 1932 in Arcadia, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius J. Wolfe and Gladys Lasley Wolfe, and his brother, Julius Glenn Wolfe. He was united in marriage to Doris Davis, June 3, 1951. Lloyd worked for W.R. Grace as a regional sales manager in the agricultural division. He was a loving husband, father and friend to many. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris L. Wolfe; three daughters, Julie Payne and her husband, Jim, Karen Wolfe-Miller and her husband, Jerry, and Janna Moore; five grandsons, Tobin Winslow and his wife, Jennifer, J.D. Moore, Shane and Dustin Miller, and Travis Miller and his wife, Laurie; and two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Alex Miller. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Walnut Lawn DeGraffenreid-Wood Funeral Home Chapel, 2001 W. Walnut Lawn Street, with Reverend Tony Newby officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CASA of S.W. Missouri, 833 Boonville, Springfield, MO 65802.

Dr. John Spurlin
Dr. John Parker Spurlin, 62, Berryville, Arkansas, passed away at 4:17 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2003 in St. John's Regional Hospital, Springfield. He was born April 1, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky the son of Dr. Robert Parker and Mary Elizabeth Meyer Spurlin. He was a graduate of Southwest Missouri State University and later of the University of Missouri School of Dentistry, Kansas City. He was united in marriage to Sharon Jo Clingan on September 2, 1962. He was a member of Berryville United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Sara Elizabeth Spurlin; a nephew, Robert Stephen Spurlin; and his father-in-law, J.A. Clingan. Dr. Spurlin is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, of the home; a son, John Frank Spurlin, Berryville, Arkansas; a daughter and her husband, Mary Elizabeth and Charles Philip Springer, Lima, Peru; a brother and his wife, Dr. Robert Meyer and Louise Spurlin, Berryville, Arkansas; a sister and her husband, Marilyn Elizabeth and Dr. John Holland, Rogers, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Taylor Elise and Sarah Parker Springer; nieces and nephews, Carrie Elizabeth Dawes, Matthew John Holland, Mark Robert Holland and Laura Louise Clynch, and Sara and Kyle Clingan; his mother-in-law, Mary E. Clingan, Springfield; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kevin and Susan Clingan, Springfield; a very dedicated and caring office staff; and a host of wonderful friends. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Berryville, Arkansas. It was John's wish that memorial contributions be made to the church or charity of your choice or to the Berryville United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Fund. Local arrangements are under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield.
