Tony Scott Bridgeman of Cuba, Missouri was born on October 2, 1967 at Sullivan, Missouri, to the union of Albert Bridgeman and Dora James Bridgeman and passed away suddenly on August 29, 2004 at his home near Cuba, Missouri, at the age of 36 years 10 months and 27 days.
Tony was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jess Bridgeman, and Grover and Emaline James.
Tony was a graduate of the Cuba R-II High School and attended the Covenant Praise Church of Cuba, Missouri, for 29 years.
Tony’s passions were driving a truck, farming and hunting. Tony served as a leader of 4-H for 12 years and showed family livestock from 1986 through 2000 at county and state fairs.
He worked as a partner in the family farm as well as 13 years at Ridgetop Farm with Charlie Bouse. Tony’s most recent employment was driving over the road in his own Peterbuilt truck.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his parents, Albert and Dora Bridgeman; brother Mark Bridgeman and wife Michelle; two sisters Susan Douglas and husband John and Julie Bridgeman; grandmother Mary Etta Bridgeman; fiancé Lisa Bach and daughter Becky; other relatives and many friends.
Tony was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew; good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Tony Scott Bridgeman was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Covenant Praise Church of Cuba, Missouri, with Pastors Mark Smith, Jack Shepherd and Herman Rogers officiating.
Pallbearers were Richard Bridgeman, Kevin Bridgeman, Roger Bridgeman Sr., Josh Dotson, Clifford Bridgeman, Greg Echols, Chris Licklider and Ralph New.
Interment was in the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Gladys B. Caulley
Gladys B. Caulley of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away at her home on Monday, August 30, 2004 at the age of 83 years.
Mrs. Caulley was born January 30, 1921 at Neneveh, Texas, to Speer and Belle (Anders) Wood. She was raised in Granite City, Illinois, and the St. Louis area and later in life in Cuba, Missouri.
On October 14, 1939, she was married to James E. Caulley at Cuba and to this marriage, four children were born.
Mrs. Caulley was self-employed in the real estate trade as a broker for Caulley Realty in Bourbon, Missouri, for many years. She was known as a caring and generous woman who was very well-read and had a sense of humor.
Her family was very dear to her and she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by two sons, Patrick Caulley of Tucson, Arizona and Daniel Caulley of Sullivan; two daughters, Janice Caulley of St. Louis and Donna Huffman of Sonora, California; two sisters, Juanita Moeckli of St. James, Missouri and Erma Dudley of St. Louis; one brother, David Wood of Clearmore, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Okla Gasaway of Ballwin, Missouri; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2004 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Jerry Pearson officiating.
Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri.
Richard J. Loy
Richard J. Loy, 82, of Cuba, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2004 in Creve Coeur, after a one year struggle with cancer.
Beloved father of Karen McCrackin (fiancé Dennis Thompson) of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Marie (Gary) Pippenger of Creve Coeur; dear grandfather of Bradford and Cara Hamilton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Michael and David Pippenger of Creve Coeur; dear brother of Grace Layton-Bender of Mont Clair, California, Agnes Douglas of O’Neill, Nebraska, Davene Holliday of Hastings, Nebraska, and the late Katherine Kennedy, Roland Loy, Bonnie Baumgardner, Wilma Green, and Donald Loy; dear brother-in-law; uncle; cousin and friend.
Mr. Loy served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He graduated in 1953 from the University of Southern California with a BA in civil engineering. He spent 45 years as a civil engineer supervising construction of refineries, pumping stations, and testing sites.
His passions were golf and bowling including a high game of 298 in 1986. He also was a Past-Master of the Los Alamitos Masonic Lodge in California.
Funeral service was held Friday, September 3 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Jefferson Barrakcs National Cemetery.
The family was served by Baumann Colonial Chapel, 2504 Woodson Road, Overland, Missouri 63114.
Joseph A. Bishop Jr.
Joseph A. Bishop Jr., 74, Pevely, Missouri, died November 14, 2004 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Crystal City, Missouri.
Mr. Bishop was a retired steel worker with Stupp Brothers Bridge and Iron. He was a booster member of Amvets Post 42 and American Legion Post 283.
Born July 27, 1930, in Steelville, Missouri, was the son of the late Joseph Andy and Lavina (Waller) Bishop.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda L. (Mike) Koenig of Pevely; two sons, Larry A. (Cindy) Bishop of Pevely and Kenneth (Carol) Jones of Marmaduke, Arkansas; a brother, Kenneth (Ava) Bishop of Steelville, Missouri. A sister, Iona (Ronnie) Harris of Bourbon, Missouri.
Dear friend Judy Jackson; eight grandchildren; Dawn (Kevin Epperson) Clack, Patricia (Dan) Rutledge, Darlene Bishop, Nichole Bishop, Kenneth Bishop, Carrie (Andrew) Postle, Kellie Jones and Christopher Jones and three great-grandchildren: MacKenzie Belland, Cassie Rutledge and Dakota Rutledge.
Additional surviving family members of Joseph Jr. are nephews: David Bishop, Ronald Bishop, Dale Bishop, Russell Bishop and Mike Pennington; cousins, four great-nephews, five great-nieces, four great-great-nephews and three great-great-nieces.
In addition to Joseph Jrs. parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Joey (1951) and only niece Kim Leadbetter nee Harris.
Funeral services were held November 16, 2004 at Vinyard’s Hillcrest Funeral home in Pevely, Missouri, officiated by Rev. Mart Thompson. Burial was in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City, Missouri.
Pallbearers were Larry Bishop, Kenny Jones, David Bishop, Ronald Bishop, Russell Bishop and Mike Koenig. Arrangements were under the direction of the Vinyard’s Hillcrest Funeral home in Pevely, Missouri.
Helena “Betty” Bryan
Helena Elizabeth Bryan (nee Souders), the daughter of the late Jesse and Gladys Souders was born at Stanton, Mo. on August 25, 1930 and passed away at Washington University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. on November 16, 2004 at the age of 74 years.
Those who preceded her in death were her parents and two sisters, Hazel and Connie, three brothers, George, Jesse and Bill.
Those who survive are four brothers, John (Florence) Souders of Fenton, sister-in-law Eleanor Souders of St. Louis, sister-in-law Alice Souders of Belvedere, Illinois and brother-in-law Cecil Pyatt of Cuba.
Nieces are Sharon, Shelia, Karen, Lorna, Shirley, Janet, Linda, Pam, Joyce and Wanda. Nephews are Billy, Tim, Carl, Gary, Darrell, Charles and Mark.
Helena donated her body to Washington University Hospital School of Medicine.
Ruby Thomas Glasgow
Ruby Thomas Glasgow of Cuba, Missouri, was born on April 19, 1908 at Rector, Arkansas, to the union of George Glasgow and Lucy Bone Glasgow and passed away suddenly on November 16, 2004 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 96 years 6 months and 27 days.
In 1930, Ruby was united in marriage to Pauline Warbritton at Popular Bluff, Missouri. One son, William, and one daughter, Betty, were born to this union. They were happily married for over 70 years until Pauline preceded him in death on June 1, 2003.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving children, Betty Bourne and husband Larry of Cuba, Missouri and William J. Glasgow and wife June of Palmetto, Florida; one sister Mary Jewell of Pacific, Missouri; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Ruby was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Ruby Thomas Glasgow was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Friday, November 19, 2004 at 2 p.m. Interment was in the Woodland Heights Cemetery, Rector, Arkansas.

Hallie Marie Harper Gray
Hallie Marie (Harper) Gray was born at Huzzah, Mo. on June 28, 1913. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Miles Harper and Ida (Slowensky) Harper. She was united in marriage to Edward Gray of Vichy, Mo. on September 20, 1943. Hallie passed away at Rolla, Mo. on November 6, 2004. She was 91 years, 4 months and 8 days old.
Hallie was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, her parents, her sister, Myrtle Campbell; brothers, Thomas, Herbert, twins Harry and Rev. W. K. Harper, also infant Orvel Harper.
Hallie was survived by one brother, Donald and wife Dorothy Harper, Steelville, Mo.; nieces and nephews, Charles and Donna Harper, Steelville, Mo., Lonnie and Jeannie Harper, Sullivan, Mo., Linda and Ed Pope, Steelville, Mo., Kenneth and Zel Harper, Elgin, Illinois, Gladys and Lindel Carter, Arthur and Ilene Campbell, Rev. Robert and Norma Campbell of Potosi, Mo., Shirley and Clyde Hardin, Richwoods, Mo., Rev. Thomas and Mildred Campbell, Leasburg, Mo., Albert Campbell, Hazel and Richard Smith, Loretta Russell, Potosi, Mo., Edward and Norma Harper, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Alice Jo and Richard Jackson, Canyon, Texas, Alan and Cindy Harper, Glasgow, Mo., Dennis and June Harper, Jacksonville, Florida, Dixie Harper Leonard, Bixby, Oklahoma, Bob and Onita Harper, Manchester, Mo.
Hallie grew up on the family farm on the Huzzah River and graduated from the old Slowensky School. She churned butter and made cottage cheese. She helped her mother, Ida, make sauerkraut, canned apples, peaches, pears and plums, also made jellies and jams from the fruit trees in the family orchard. There was the sorghum making and butchering of the hogs during the autumn. She made sausages and canned them, often Hallie gathered the paw-paws (Ozark Bananas) down by the cornfield and picked persimmons on her way home.
Hallie went on to work at Carter Carburetor Corp. in St. Louis where brothers, Tom and Herbert also worked. She retired to the farm at Vichy, Mo., with her husband, Ed, where she worked very hard many years before they sold the farms and moved to St. James, Mo. After an accident, her failing health required her to live in a nursing home at Cuba, Mo. where her husband, Ed, also lived for some time before passing away on December 28, 2003.
Hallie was very devoted to her family. She started the Harper Family Reunion 57 years ago at the Vichy farm. Later the reunions were held at Maramec Springs, St. James, Mo. She was unable to attend the last Harper Reunion on September 18, where she was to be honored for her efforts in beginning and maintaining this tradition of the annual gathering of the family fellowship. She looked forward to this time with her whole family. Besides the above listed nieces and nephews, Hallie enjoyed other good times with her 35 great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her 77 great-great-nieces and nephews, also the 10 great-great-great-nieces and nephews. She kept in touch with the family growth and activities until a few days before her death. She will be greatly missed by her brother, Donald Harper and wife, Dorothy, and all her many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Hallie were held at James and Gahr Chapel, St. James, Mo. at 10 a.m. on November 9, 2004.
Hallie’s nephew, Rev. Robert Campbell, preached her funeral emphasizing her long life of hard work and the fact she was unable to eat or drink the past two and a half years being fed via a stomach tube. Yet she did not complain. Her mind remained clear and she continued to speak to them on the phone when they called her until she entered the hospital shortly before her death.
Hallie attended the Methodist Church in St. James, Mo. and especially enjoyed the sermons of her brother, Rev. W. K. Harper when he was the pastor there many years ago.
Pallbearers were her nephews, Kenneth Harper, Charles Harper, Alan Harper, Arthur Campbell, Albert Campbell and Richard Smith. James and Gahr Funeral Home was in charge of final arrangements. Interment was in Steelville, Mo. Cemetery beside Hallie’s husband, Ed, which is near her parents.
Nova V. Medows
Nova V. Medows, daughter of the late Charles Bishop and Rhoda (Gist) Bishop, was born on November 14, 1916 in Missouri and entered into rest on November 28, 2004 in Fair Play, Missouri at the age of 88 years.
Nova was married to Harding (Gus) Medows who preceded her into rest on June 16, 1978. Also preceding her in death were her parents and one daughter, Bobbie Medows.
Nova attended the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. She loved to dance and to draw, but mostly, she loved her family, and was a wonderful and caring wife, mother and friend.
Nova Medows was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her surviving family: her children, Buddy Franklin Medows and wife Shirley, Charles P. Medows Sr. and wife Pat, Kaloaha “Kitty” Tucker and her husband Frank, LeiLanni Hafley, Harding Medows Jr. and wife Louise, Patsy Spurgeon and husband Teddy Sr., Norman Medows and wife Steffanie, Donnie Medows and wife Cyndie, Michael Medows Sr. and wife Karen, Novella D. Palardy, Tracy Medows Sr. and wife Crystal.
In addition to her children, Nova had 37 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Nova were Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James with Rev. Mick Thrasher officiating.
Pallbearers will be immediate family. Interment was at the St. James Cemetery immediately following the service.
Visitation for family and friends of Nova Medows was held on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James.
All arrangements were under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
Virginia Lee Bartlow
Virginia Lee Bartlow (nee Breyer) was born Thursday, February 25, 1926 at St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late William Breyer and Virginia Breyer, nee McFarland.
She entered eternal rest Sunday, December 25, 2005, at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, at the age of 79 years and 10 months.
On December 7, 1944, Virginia was united in marriage to James E. Bartlow at the First Baptist Church, Leadwood, Missouri. One son, Jim, and one daughter, Sharon, were born to this union. They recently celebrated their 61st anniversary.
Virginia was devoted to her family and her Lord. She has taught Sunday School for many years, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri, at the time of her death.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Pearl Wallen and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie and Ervin Darlow and Mae Gillam.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted husband, James. E. Bartlow of the home in Steelville, Missouri; one son, Jim Bartlow and wife Diane of Maryland; one daughter, Sharon and husband Terry England of Steelville, Missouri.
Five grandchildren, Denise Bartlow and Christina Bartlow, Brad England and wife Amy, Ben England and wife Becky, Jared England and wife Heather. Five great-grandchildren, Katelyn Sheehan, Conner, Emma, Elijah, and Abby England; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Virginia Lee Bartlow lay in state from 4-8 p.m. December 27, 2005 at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Kevin Farr and Rev. Michael Knight officiating.
Musical selections were provided by vocalist Joyce Vaughn and organist Diane Pickup.
Committal prayers and interment were in St. Francois Memorial Park, Bonne Terre, Missouri.
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Brad England, Ben England, Jared England, son-in-law, Terry England, Jack England and Raymond McCormick.
Rob Bowness played Amazing Grace and McFarland's Gathering on the bagpipes at the interment.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
