James J. "Jim" Flynn of Kirkwood died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005. He was 61.
Mr. Flynn was a retired electrical engineer for the Anheuser-Busch brewery. He was a lifetime member and former president of the Kirkwood Evening Optimist Club and commodore of the Kirkwood Yacht Club. He was a lover of music, and played guitar, banjo, bass and harmonica.
Mr. Flynn was the husband of Patti Flynn (nee McAllister); father of Julie McKeon, Molly Flynn and Joseph Flynn; grandfather of Emma McKeon; brother of Mary (Tony) Valdes; brother-in-law of Mike McAllister; son-in-law of Nancy and the late William McAllister; uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 16, 10 a.m., at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road in Kirkwood. Interment, St. Peter Cemetery.

Leland Fondaw, former resident of Glendale and Rock Hill, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005. He was 81.
Mr. Fondaw and his wife Betty owned and operated Fondaw Upholstery for many years on Berry Road in Glendale. Their daughter, Sheila, is an advertising representative for the Webster-Kirkwood Times newspaper.
Mr. Fondaw was the husband of Betty Fondaw (nee Johnston) for 62 years; father of Barry (Judy) Fondaw and Sheila (Dick) Buckles; grandfather of Andy (Alison) Fondaw, Corey Fondaw, Mike (Danielle) Fondaw, Brian Buckles and Jane (Joe) Hill.

Ann "Lou" Fontana (nee Gardner) of Kirkwood died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005.
Mrs. Fontana was the wife of the late Joseph W. Fontana; mother of Karen Batz, Debbie (Larry) Koch, Virginia (Mike) Quist and J. (Karen) Fontana; grandmother of Katie, Jonathan, Sara, Melissa, Michael, Jessica, Nicholas, Michaela, Clare, Ellie and Rose; aunt, friend and neighbor.

Sylvia S. Forister of Kirkwood died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005. She was 76.
Mrs. Forister was the wife of Carroll E. Forister for 57 years; mother of David (Pattie) Forister, Vivienne (Denny) Schwab and Emmett (Terri) Forister; grandmother of Gregory, Stuart, Zachary and Jacob; sister of Joyce (Alan) Bailey of Southhampton, England; sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend to all who knew and loved her.

Armstead Price Forsythe of Webster Groves died suddenly on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005.
Mr. Forsythe was the husband of Mary Forsythe (nee Howes); father of Pam (Greg) Trapp, Jenny (Steve) Beck and Laurel (Jim) Taylor; grandfather of Matthew, Karen, Turner, Emily, Morgan, Jack and Sam.

Donald Charles Shannon, former teacher and football coach at Kirkwood High School, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at his home in Cocoa, Fla., after a long battle with cancer. He was 66.
Mr. Shannon was born and raised in California. He served in the Coast Guard then attended St. Mary's College, Porterville College and graduated from Sacramento State University, where he played varsity football. He earned a master's degree from the University of Arkansas, where he was also a member of the football coaching staff.
Subsequently, he taught and was defensive coordinator at Kirkwood High School from 1966 until he became the head coach of the sophomore football team in 1973. In 1974, his sophomore team was undefeated.
In 1978 he moved to Florida. He went back to teaching and coaching football in 1989 at Cocoa Beach High School, where he was the head coach until 1993. He then went on to coach football at Cocoa High School until he retired in 2003.
Mr. Shannon was known for instilling a winning spirit in the teams that he coached, and making the people around him feel so very important. He also spent many years following his passion for the water, working beside his wife, Virginia, renting and selling sailboats at Shannon's Sailboats and the Orange Cove Marina, both of which they owned. His incredible strength of character, integrity and empathy will be greatly missed.
Mr. Shannon is survived by his wife of 26 years, Virginia; his children, Mindy and Kerry of California; Chris Griffith of California; Georgia Beiser of Missouri; and Bren Wade of Merritt Island, Fla.; his sister, Sara Klopfer of California; his brother Steve of Arizona; his brother Jim; his sister Dodi Nichols of California; and ten grandchildren: Jake, Josh, Addison, Jennifer, William, Lisa, Andrea, Samantha, Addison, and Brock.
Funeral services were held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Cocoa on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006.
David A. Shipman of Kirkwood died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006.
Mr. Shipman was a member of Kirkwood United Methodist Church, and owned and operated Shipman and Associates, Inc. He was a season ticket holder of the Cardinals, Rams and Blues, and was an avid golfer.
Mr. Shipman was the husband of the late Astrid S. Shipman; fiance of Dory Poholsky; father of Keryn S. Shipman and David Bruce (Stacy) Shipman; grandfather of Ashley, David and Gabrielle Shipman; brother of Carol Riber Shipman, James Hudson Shipman, Ellen (Leslie) Aiello and John (Emily) Shipman; cousin, uncle and friend to many.

Aida S. Wells (nee Negria), a longtime resident of Webster Groves and South County died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006.
Mrs. Wells was a member of the Webster Groves Chapter #64 OES. She was the wife of the late Sherman E. Wells; mother of Deborah (Steve) Wells Birmingham and Mia Robin Wells (Bob Brophy); loving Grammy to Tommie and Rachael Birmingham and Mikey Wells.

Dorothy Marie Franz (nee Ginter) died peacefully in her home on Christmas morning, Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005.
Mrs. Franz was born June 27, 1921 in DeSoto, Mo., to Earl A. and Zollie P. Ginter. She was the wife for 67 years of Arthur Paul Franz; mother and mother-in-law of Sharon and Tom Waris, Michael Franz, Deborah and John Bickel, Helen and Anthony Franz; Nana to nine grandchildren, Mike (Dena) Waris, Mark (Sarajane) Waris, Kari (Matt) Leatherwood, Kelly (John) Sigman, Kristen (Marc) Buncher, Zach and Josh Bickel, Lucas and Isabella Franz, and 12 great-grandchildren; sister of Virginia Ausbrooks, Barbara Bahr, the late Earl and Rudy Ginter; sister-in-law, special aunt, cousin and friend.

Barbara Luechtefeld Fraser of Webster Groves died Saturday, June 18, 2005, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Fraser, 78, was born March 22, 1927. She was a lifelong resident of Webster Groves, and a graduate of Webster University. She holds a master's degree from St. Louis University, and taught speech and drama at St. Louis University and St. Rochs Schools.
Mrs. Fraser was a member of the Webster Groves City Council from 2000-04, and helped develop the Boosters Tutoring Club at the Monday Club in Webster Groves.
She was a member of the Webster Groves Historical Society and Questers, an historic preservation organization. A longtime community volunteer, Mrs. Fraser spent time as a docent at the Hawken House, and as an Oasis tutor.
She was very active in the Alumni Association of Webster University, and the Holy Redeemer Catholic Women's League.
Mrs. Fraser was the wife of Donald V. Fraser Jr.; mother of Donald Victor Fraser, Vicky Fraser and John D. Fraser; grandmother of Jake, Becky and Hallie; and sister of Victor Luechtefeld and Rosalie Scheer.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 25, 10 a.m., at Holy Redeemer Church, 17 Joy Avenue in Webster Groves, followed immediately by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Fraser's memory may be made to the Holy Redeemer School Renovation Fund.
