Earl R. Tweedie of Holly Hill, Fla., formerly of Webster Groves died Monday, June 6, 2005.
Mr. Tweedie was born Sept.30, 1917, in Walton, N.Y. He graduated from Ohio State University, and served on ammunition ships in the U.S. Navy for nearly four years in the Pacific during World War II.
Mr Tweedie lived in Webster Groves from 1949 to 1979. He was vice president, treasurer and director of the former American Investment Company in Clayton, and a member and former chairman of the St. Louis County Civil Service Commission.
He was an active citizen of Webster Groves. He was a member and former president of the Webster Groves School Board from 1958-1967, as well as vestry member and former senior warden of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Mr. Tweedie was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Harmount Tweedie; grandson Andrew Timmons Tweedie and granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Sprague; and son-in-law Neal Losse. He is survived by his wife, Idah C. Tweedie, of Holly Hill, Fla.; his son, Robert T. (Reda) Tweedie of Crestwood; his daughters, the Rev. Ann T. Few of Philadelphia, Pa., Sara T. Losse of Kirkwood, and Susan T. (Dr. Randy) Sprague of Webster Groves; as well as his stepson, Jay Cunningham of Orlando, Fla. He was the grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 11.
A memorial service will be held in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Friday, June 17. Interment will be in Walton, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the following:

John Steele Tyler, 87, born and raised in Webster Groves and formerly of Mobile, Ala. died on Tuesday, June 21, 2005. He was husband of Catherine Guthrie Tyler (nee Gaunt) and the late Lucile Tyler; son of the late Simeon and Mary Clayton Tyler; brother of Mimi (Charles) Bier and the late Simeon Tyler Jr.; step-father of Ann Sullivan, Elizabeth Guthrie (finance Bruce Shapiro), and Catherine (Joel) Guthrie-Goss; uncle of Pamela Blair, Sally Jensen, Charles Bier Jr., Margaret Nonnemacher, and the late David Nonnemacher, step-grandfather of Peyton Manwarring, Tamsin Mascetti, Kathryn Romine, Michael Sullivan, and Keaton Guthrie-Goss.
During World War II, he flew hellcats off the destroyer "Llywelyn" in the Pacific. He received his training at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla. He retired as lieutenant commander from the Navy.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at Gerber Chapel, 23 W. Lockwood Ave., Webster Groves; phone 968-2000. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Donations may be made to the donor's charity of choice.
Sister Valerie Usinger, S.L., of the Sisters of Loretto in Webster Groves died Monday, April 11, 2005.
Sister Valerie was the aunt of Jeffery and Michael Usinger, Deborah Erwin, Donna O'Hara and Monica Sedonah. A memorial Mass was held April 16, at the Loretto Center, 590 E. Lockwood in Webster Groves.

Donald N. Van Eenam, Ph.D., a longtime resident of Des Peres died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005.
Dr. Van Eenam's greatest passions in life were gardening, chemistry and singing in praise of God. He grew up in Washington, D.C., attending Woodrow Wilson High School, the University of Michigan, Dartmouth College and Duke University. He practiced organic chemistry research at Monsanto Co. and Buckeye International, and was responsible for 34 U.S. patents.
Dr. Van Eenam was the husband of Maxine J. Van Eenam (nee James); father of Peter J. (Anne) Van Eenam and Carol J. Van Eenam; grandfather of Jennifer and Kathryn Van Eenam; brother of Marjorie Van Eenam Butcher; cousin, special friend and neighbor.

Dorothy J. Vaughn of Kirkwood died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005.
Mrs. Vaughn was a past member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She was the wife of William H. "Bill" Vaughn for 56 years, and a friend to many.

Edward "Ed" Velten, former assistant football coach at Kirkwood High School, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005. He was 74, and a resident of Ladue.
Mr. Velten was the brother of Kirkwood High School athletic director Jim Velten, a Webster Groves resident. He spent many years as head football coach at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, accumulating 12 conference championships and qualifying for state four years in a row.
While there, he also coached baseball and swimming, and taught physical education. He coached the Ladue girls tennis team from 1988 to 1992.
Mr. Velten played both football and baseball as a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He graduated from the university with a master's degree in education, and served in the U.S. Army. He played baseball while in the service, and also played semi-professional baseball. He was a baseball scout for the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets.
From 1963 to 1969, Mr. Velten co-hosted a radio program on KMOX with sports editor Bob Burnes of the Globe-Democrat.
Mr. Velten became assistant football coach at Kirkwood High School in 1996, and held that position for four years. He was the owner of the Velten-Otis Football Camp, and continued his coaching involvement by serving as director of the St. Louis Metro Football Coaches Clinic for Kids.
Mr. Velten was the husband of Betty Velten (nee Degerinis) for more than 50 years; father of Lynn Stecker of Phoenix, Az., and Mark Velten of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; brother of Betty Wolf and Jim Velten; and grandfather of six.

Patricia M. Volk (nee Mahan) of Glendale died Saturday, July 16, 2005.
Mrs. Volk was the wife of David Volk for 56 years; mother of David (Donna) Volk Jr., Julie (Kevin) Thorpe, and Greta (Bruce) Talen; grandmother of Jessica, Kimberly, Melanie, Carly, Greta, Katie, Teddy, Julia and Peter; sister of Sally A. Mahan.

Clara M. Waldmann of Kirkwood died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005.
Mrs. Waldmann was the wife of the late Irvin W. Waldmann Sr.; mother of Irvin W. (Elaine) Waldmann Jr., Jean (Robert) Brown, Melvin (Shirley) Waldmann, Robert (Sharon) Waldmann, Ronald (Jean) Waldmann, Deborah (John) Ellis, Dennis Waldmann, the late Loretta (Harry) Tebbe and the late Arlene Waldmann. She had two sisters, one brother, 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

John Scott Ware of Joplin, Mo., died suddenly on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005. He was 46.
Mr. Ware was the husband of Melissa Thomas, a Webster Groves High School graduate. They were married on May 16, 1987.
Mr. Ware was the head football coach at Missouri Southern State University. He began his coaching career at Ottumwa High School, in Ottumwa, Iowa, and went on to coach for many years at Truman State University.
Mr. Ware is survived by his wife Melissa; sister and brother-in-law Marcia and Kenneth Weite; brother and sister-in-law Tim and Elizabeth Ware; mother-in-law Susan Thomas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sheri and John O'Brien; and many nieces and nephews.

Sara B. Weaver of Webster Groves died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005. She was 93.
Mrs. Weaver was a "charter" member of Webster Hills Methodist Church, and a member of P.E.O. She was the wife of the late F. Larry Weaver; mother of Linda (Fred) Peacock and Julie (Steve) Yeager; grandmother of John W., David A., Doug, Sara and Kevin; great-grandmother of seven; sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend to many.

James John Werner Sr. of Webster Groves died Sunday, June 19, 2005. He was 70.
Mr. Werner was a 1952 graduate of St. Louis University High School, and a 1956 graduate of St. Louis University School of Business and Administration. He was past president of the Carondelet Lions Club, the Board of Directors of Business Opportunities for Missouri Blind, Inc., the Christian Brother's College Parent's Club and the Visitation Academy Father's Club; past treasurer of the Webster Groves Historical Society; past chairman of the King's Men Dinner Committee; member of the Missouri Athletic Club Apollos; Dance Club board secretary; past member of the JESS Board of Directors, St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, and longtime member of Our Holy Redeemer Parish.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen Whelan Werner; sons James J. Jr. (Susan), Stephen P. (Jennifer) and daughter Ellen; brother of Joyce (Joseph) Schmittgens; grandfather of Patrick and Caroline; uncle, cousin and friend to many.
