Capt. Dennis Mignerone, a long-time member of the Webster Groves Fire Department, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, of an apparent heart attack.
According to Chief Mike Capriglione, Mignerone was on duty at the time of his death.
"He was working out, lifting weights, and he started experiencing chest pains, " Capriglione said. "He let the paramedics know right away. They began to assess him, and decided to take him to the hospital. A little before they reached the hospital he had a heart attack. He couldn't be revived."
Mignerone had been a member of the department since July 7, 1976. On June 3, 1998, he was promoted to captain.
"He was a great coworker and a good friend to everybody here."
Mignerone was a resident of South County. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and three daughters: Antoinette, Angela and Amy.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 24, at St. Simon The Apostle Church, 11011 Mueller Road. Visitation was held Jan. 23, at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois in South County.
Albert L. Mikes, of Kirkwood died Friday, April 11, 2003.
Mr. Mikes was the husband of the late Bette Jo Mikes; father of Karen (Tom) James; grandfather of Scott (Dani), Michael (Sarah) and Linda James; great-grandfather of Drew James; and friend to many.
Visitation and a funeral service were held at Forever Oak Hill Funeral Home at Pfitzinger in Kirkwood. Interment, National Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
William "Bill" W. Monafo, M.D. of Kirkwood died Friday, July 4, 2003.
Dr. Monafo was a surgeon. He was the husband of Jamie M. Monafo (nee McClearn); father of Dr. William J. (Lynn) Monafo, Katherine A. (Bruce) Kennon and James F. (Mary Beth) Monafo; grandfather of seven; brother of Marie (Gus) Forcucci, Dr. Virginia (Alfredo) Canti and Janet (Paul) Rahill; uncle, great-uncle and cousin.
Visitation was held July 8 at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood, with a memorial Mass July 9 at St. Anselm Parish at the Priory. Interment, private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington University School of Medicine, 660 S. Euclid, St. Louis, Mo., 63110.
Carolyn K. Mooney (nee Krull) of Des Peres died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003.
Mrs. Mooney was the wife of Edward W. Mooney; mother of William W. (Patricia) Mooney, Marian (Joseph) Cervassi and Laura (Patrick) Mayville; grandmother of Elizabeth, Vincent, Emily, Sean and Ryan; sister of Paul Krull, Thomas (Delores) Krull, Katherine (Don) Walsh, Edward (Connie) Krull and Mary (Ray) Tauser; sister-in-law of Margaret Keely; aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend.

Daniel P. Morisseau Jr., a resident of Kirkwood died Monday, April 28, 2003.
Mr. Morisseau served in the U.S. Army during World War II and continued in the active reserves until his retirement as a major in the mid-1960s. He was the former president of the family business, General Welding Products, Inc., and was active in the Ballwin Rotary Club from its inception.
Mr. Morisseau was the husband of the late Margaret W. Morisseau; father of Daniel P. Morisseau III and Mary M. (Pasquale) Landolfi; grandfather of Sarah M. Lee, Daniel P. Morisseau IV and William Landolfi; great-grandfather of Sophie Lee.
Funeral services were held at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood; interment, Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
Marjorie "Jean" Moss of Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of Webster Groves died Wednesday, May 28, 2003.
Mrs. Moss taught in both the Webster Groves and Clayton school districts until her retirement, and was active in the women's group at Webster Groves First Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling, and volunteered many hours recording for Books for the Blind. In 1994, she moved to Fort Collins.
Mrs. Moss was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ray Moss; her parents, Will and Helen Stoerger; and her sister, Lois Borman. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Gentry and Bill Moellenhoff, Candice Moss and Bill Tiefenbrun, Kim and John Kirsch, and Woody and Echo Moss; plus seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Acclaimed pianist and former Kirkwood resident Mary M. Mottl, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, of breast cancer. She was 59, and lived in Maplewood.
Ms. Mottl was recognized as a top-notch soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. She appeared with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra's various chamber series; was the harpsichordist with Collegium Vocale of St. Louis, a chamber ensemble she co-founded; and performed with fellow pianist Yona Weinberg as the Mottl-Weinberg duo.
"Mary Mottl was one of the greatest pleasures of all my years in St. Louis, " said Leonard Slatkin, music director of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra from 1979 to 1996. "Her consummate musicianship and gracious manner were always present."
Ms. Mottl was an assistant professor of music and chair of the keyboard music department at Saint Louis University, and artist-in-residence there for 16 years. She also taught at Webster University, the University of Nevada, and Kansas State College (now University).
Ms. Mottl is survived by her children, Richard (Meagan) Mottl, David Mottl, Kathy Carlin and Jan Petty; two brothers, Jim and Jay Arnold; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Robert T. Naumann of Kirkwood died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003.
Mr. Naumann was the husband of Audrey Naumann (nee Almstedt); father of Robert (Janice) Naumann Jr. and Martha (Edward) Folks; grandfather of Tom, Beth, E.J., Sarah, Claire and Marie; brother of Dolores and the late Bud, Florence, Virginia and Fred; brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

John Calvin Naylor Jr., formerly of Webster Groves died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Naylor was born in 1919. He was a graduate of Webster Groves High School, received his B.A. from Dartmouth College and his M.B.A. from Dartmouth's Amos Tuck School of Business Administration.
After serving as a lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II, Mr. Naylor embarked on a career in advertising. He worked for Gardner Advertising in St. Louis and New York from 1948 to 1966 and then continued his career with Dancer-Fitzgerald-Sample in San Francisco, Calif., from 1966 until his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Naylor was an active amateur radio operator for over 60 years; his call sign was K6BR.
Mr. Naylor is survived by his wife, Margaret F. Naylor of St. Louis; his sons, John B. Naylor of Fort Myers, Fla., and James P. Naylor of Morgan Hill, Calif.; and his granddaughter, Faye Naylor of Fort Myers, Fla. He was the brother of the late Doris Dee Spiegel. Burial was private.
Robert Henry Nuelle, of Kirkwood, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003. He was 69 years old.
Mr. Nuelle was a 1951 graduate of St. John the Baptist High School. He attended St. Louis University after serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. Nuelle had lived in San Francisco, Calif., for 30 years, and was a loyal Giants fan. His greatest pleasures included his nieces and nephews and baseball.
Mr. Nuelle was the son of the late Robert F. and Paula A. (Kahrhoff) Nuelle; brother of Nancy L. Schrick, Ruth Ann (Tom) Kickham, Gerald W. (Sally) Nuelle, Paula M. Huberman, Mary Elise (Jim) Gruchala, Daniel E. (Michelle) Nuelle, Christine (Tim) Mahaney, and the late Michael F. (Jean) Nuelle; nephew of Mitzi and Joe Nuelle; uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and friend.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Forever Oak Hill Funeral Home at Pfitzinger, 366 S. Kirkwood Road. Funeral services follow at 9:30 a.m., then to Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Webster Groves for 10 a.m. Mass. Interment, St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Kirkwood.
