Barbara Mitchell Chapin Dunlap Nutt, of Kirkwood died Friday, April 11, 2003. She was 79.
Mrs. Nutt developed the DuBois and Young People's Libraries at Eliot Chapel in Kirkwood, as well as the collection at Laumeier Sculpture Park. She spearheaded the popular annual book fair sales at Kirkwood Public Library and Eliot Chapel, and developed children's libraries at Hough Elementary School in Kirkwood, and in West Virginia.
Mrs. Nutt was an accomplished pianist and accompanist. She and her husband, Frank, were supporters of the St. Louis Symphony, Opera Theatre, the St. Louis Art Museum, the Missouri Botanical Garden and other arts organizations.
Mrs. Nutt was born in Boston, and attended college at Wellesley. She was a member of the Read and Feed and Wellesley Book Clubs, and had built an enormous personal library. She was also fluent in French and Italian.
Mrs. Nutt settled in St. Louis with her first husband, Wallace "Sunny" Dunlap. They eventually moved to Kirkwood so their four children could be educated in the Kirkwood School District. Mr. Dunlap died in 1977. In 1980, Mrs. Nutt married Frank Nutt.
Mrs. Nutt is survived by her husband; daughters Ann Leonard Dunlap and Louisa Dunlap Salvin; stepdaughters Barbara Nutt Roecker, Anne Nutt Lindahl and Elizabeth Page Pasieka; sons Wallace Perry (Sandy) Dunlap III and Arthur Chapin Dunlap; stepson James Tureman Nutt; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; sisters Nancy Chapin Davis and Mary Francis Chapin Hovey; and brothers Hugh Mitchell Chapin and David Cameron Chapin.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 18, 2 p.m. at Eliot Unitarian Chapel, 216 E. Argonne Ave. in Kirkwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missouri Botanical Garden, Eliot Chapel, Kirkwood Public Library, Wellesley College Student Aid or the charity of one's choice. Ivan "Obie" Oberdan, a long-time Kirkwood resident died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003.
Mr. Oberdan served in World War II, where he earned the Silver Star. He was the husband of Marie Oberdan (nee Meyers) for 60 years; father of Yvonne (Tom) Foley, Sue (Rick) Dorff, Tom Oberdan, Denise (Dick Galyon) Oberdan and Jeanne Oberdan; grandfather of Brigitte Foley, Sebastian and Tristan Dorff, Angelina Oberdan, Josephine and Max Oberdan Galyon, and Simon and Renee McCarthy; great-grandfather of Eden Dorff, and Chloe and Claudia Dorin; brother of Celeste Nye; uncle, brother-in-law and friend.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 24, at Forever Oak Hill Funeral Home at Pfitzinger to St. Gerard Majella, 1971 Dougherty Ferry Road for 10 a.m. Mass. Interment, Forever Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. O'Brien was the wife of the late Edward C. O'Brien, M.D.; mother of Margaret M. (the late Jerome) Rietman, the Rev. Edward C. O'Brien, S.J., Jerome K. (Earlene Ann) O'Brien, Mary K. O'Brien and the late Ellen E. (Cole) Weber; grandmother of Theresa (Thomas) Grettler, Margaret (John) Vara, Clare (William) Murphy, Mary Rietman, Kevin (Cheryl) O'Brien, Edward (Jan) O'Brien, Stephen O'Brien, Elizabeth (Edward) King, Joseph Weber, Ann (Thomas) Steitz, Thomas (Laura) Weber, Mary (Kenneth) Schmidt, Patricia (Robert) Drury and Katherine (Matthew) Mallory; great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend.

Joseph James O'Connor of Kirkwood died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003.
Mr. O'Connor was the husband and friend of Genevieve Gebhart O'Connor; father of Maggie O'Connor, Liz (Steve) Voss, Mary (Gary) Wimberly and Kathe (Bruce) Arbogast; grandfather of Don, Alli, Katie, Lauren, Shayne, Sarah and Kelly; brother-in-law of Francis O'Connor; uncle and friend to many.

Marvin L. Oftedahl, Ph.D., of Warson Woods died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at his home.
Dr. Oftedahl was born in 1931 in Chicago, Ill., and served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps during the Korean War. He obtained a B.A. in chemistry from Northwestern University in 1956, and a doctorate in organic chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis in 1960. In 1958, he married his wife, the late Elizabeth "Libby" (nee Smith).
He served as a senior research group leader at Monsanto Company from 1960 to 1986, and joined the Washington University Chemistry Department, where he stayed until his retirement in 1994. Dr. Oftedahl was an emeritus member of the American Chemical Society.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m., at Webster Groves Presbyterian Church, 45 W. Lockwood in Webster Groves. Burial, Upper Alton Cemetery, Alton, Ill.

Larry G. Dite, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002.
Mr. Dite was the husband of Barbara M. Dite (nee Mahon); father of Leslie Dite and Jason Dite; brother-in-law of Sandra and John Mahon, Dr. Joan Ybarra, and Barb and Bob Mahon of St. Louis; uncle and friend.

Catherine Dooley (nee McGarry) died Wednesday, May 1, 2002. The Kirkwood resident was the wife of the late Vincent M. Dooley; mother of Mary Catherine (Jack) DeMara, Diane Dooley and Carol (Chris) Kraft; grandmother of Jeffrey and Kevin DeMara, Michael, Katie and Kelly Krafft; sister of Ann Marie McGarry and the late Thomas J. and William A. Margaret L. Doswald, (nee Desmond), died Tuesday, July 9, 2002.
Mrs. Doswald, a long-time resident of Kirkwood, was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Doswald; mother of Barbara Ann (Mike) Vezeau and the late Mary Irene Hughes; mother-in-law of Bob (Sandy) Hughes; grandmother of Laura Hughes, Mickey (Rex) Hughes, Jeffrey (Liana) Vezeau, Susan (Tim) Jones, Joseph (Sue) Hughes and Scott (Miya) Vezeau; great-grandmother of Mary Elisabeth, Jacob, Amanda, Bradley, Maggie, Emily, Geneva, Zachary, Savannah, Aileen, Jennifer, Benjamin and Alexandra; dear aunt, cousin and friend.

John F. Doyle died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002.
Mr. Doyle served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of American Legion Post #397. He taught in the Ladue School District until retiring in 1976.
Mr. Doyle was the husband of Esther A. Doyle; son of the late J. Frank and Helen Manning Doyle; uncle, great-uncle and cousin.

Kathleen L. Dring (nee Sheehan), died April 13, 2002. Mrs. Dring, a Webster Groves resident, was 91 years old. She was the wife of the late Arthur E. Dring (1973), and the mother of John P. Dring (Janet) and Mary Ann DeWeese (George V.).
She concerned herself with her children and five grandchildren. She was devoted to her husband, Arthur, for 38 years of marriage. Her strength came from her church, Holy Redeemer in Webster Groves. Mrs. Dring taught sewing and was active in medical missions. She was a third Daughter of Mt. Carmel through Holy Redeemer Church.

Dorothy Dugan, 92
Long-time Webster Groves resident Dorothy Frances Dugan (nee Cullen) died on Jan. 2, 2002. She would have turned 93 on Jan. 3.
Mrs. Dugan had been a volunteer for the United Fund as a young woman and active in the Webster Gardens Garden Club for 40 years until its end a couple of years ago. Born in Milwaukee, Wisc., Mrs. Dugan moved to St. Louis in 1953 before moving to Webster Groves in 1960. She was an avid reader and history buff and enjoyed knitting, traveling, and gardening. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren's weddings as much as her children's weddings.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Francis Dugan. She was mother of Donald C. (Corinne) Dugan, John M. (Jean) Dugan, Patricia A. Dugan, and the late Thomas E. (late Josephine) Dugan M.D., mother-in-law of Patricia Zenda Dugan, grandmother of Josephine (Fernandon) Cabezas, Marye Beth (Joseph) Croze, Thomas C. (Mary) Dugan, Hugh (Ute) Dugan, Hannah C. Dugan, Honore (Anthony) Schiro, Cordelia (Johnathon) Earley, Amy (Douglas) Sedlar, AnnMarie (Michael) Schettl, Bridget (Jeffrey) Elliott, Daniel Dugan, Kathleen (William) Bastedo, Margaret Dugan, Paricia (Peter) Hansen, Jennifer (Joseph) Schunk, Melissa (Richard) Frank, and Michael Dugan. She is also survived by 21 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 5 at Gerber Chapel in Webster Groves with interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
