John Edwin McKinley of Webster Groves died at home in his sleep Friday, Nov. 19, 2004. He was 57.
Mr. McKinley was born in Wellington, Kan., and attended Wichita State under a football scholarship. He was married to Marguerite Heath for seven years; they had three children. In 1981 he married Deborah K. Mau. He graduated from St. Louis University in 1993 with a B.S. in organizational administration, and was employed by Southwestern Bell (SBC) for over 30 years, retiring in 2001 as a systems analyst. In his retirement, he began a career in real estate, recently with Century 21, Neubauer Reality.
He was an active member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Webster Groves (serving as treasurer), SLU Lutheran Campus Ministry Board, the Billiken Club and DeBourg Society.
Mr. McKinley is survived by his wife, Deborah; three children, Leland (Shelley) McKinley, Shannon (Doug) Sultz and Shawn McKinley; five grandchildren; his parents, Roy and Ann McKinley; five siblings, Anna (David) Limbaugh, Roy McKinley, Mike (Karen) McKinley, Carol (Rod) Howard and David (Kathy) McKinley; his mother and father in-law, Norma and John Mau; sisters-in-law Christine and Karen Mau; brother-in- law Mark Mau (Kathy Bonds), and many friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2 p.m., at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1 Selma Ave., in Webster Groves. Donald James McWay of Shrewsbury died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004.
Mr. McWay retired as general manager of McGraw-Hill Book Company in Manchester in 1991, after 27 years of service. He was treasurer of The Bulldogs A.C., and a member of Kenrick Park Men's Club. He loved the Lake of the Ozarks.
Mr. McWay was the husband of Marianne (nee Bearden) for 55 years; father of Kathie (Bud) Fears, Jim, Robert, Andrew and Terry (Samantha) McWay; grandfather of 11; great-grandfather of one; brother of John D. McWay and the late Thomas, Robert and Francis McWay, Martha Soutar and Mary L. Bregenzer; brother-in-law of Irene McWay, Ray Bregenzer, Barbara (Bob) Hurd and Robyn (Jim) Kettler; uncle and friend.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 18, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Webster Groves. Interment, Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery. Memorials to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
John L. Mertz of Warson Woods died Thursday, March 18, 2004.
Mr. Mertz was the husband of Mary A. Mertz (nee Vannoy); father of Jeffrey (Ann Marie Behm, M.D.), Christopher and Jennifer, Mertz; brother of Mary Ann (Roger) Otto, Joseph (Julie) Mertz, Joan (Stan) Mengwasser, Robert Mertz, Gerald (Kathy) Mertz, Helen (Greg) Steward, Thomas (Mary) Mertz and the late Edward Mertz; uncle, great-uncle, cousin and nephew of Catherine End and Leon L'Hote.

Jeannette E. Miller of Glendale died on Monday, March 1, 2004. She was the wife of the late John R. Miller; mother of John R. Miller II, grandmother of Nicole Miller and John Miller III; sister, sister-in-law, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.
A funeral service was held on March 3 at Gerber Chapel in Webster Groves. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Rosemary Miller of Kirkwood, died on Friday, April 30, at SSM St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood.
Born on Dec. 12, 1954, Ms. Miller was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Meacham Park. She attended J. Milton Turner elementary, Pitman elementary and Kirkwood Senior High School. She received her bachelor's degree from Central Missouri State University where she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Ms. Miller taught home economics at her alma mater Kirkwood High School. She also worked for Southwestern Bell, Boatmen's Bank and Firstar Bank. Ms. Miller was a member of the Mudd's Groves Historical Society of Kirkwood. She also operated her own business, Miller Creations.
She is survived by mother, Dorine Miller; seven sisters, Geneva, Kathleen, Theresa, Mary Frances (Sam), Beverly, Nancy, and Naomi; three brothers, Charles (Ruth), Arthur (Alice), and Alvin (Romona); 17 nieces and nephews; 11 great nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces and nephews; two aunts; two uncles; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration Service was held on May 7 at First Baptist Church of Meacham Park.
Russell L. Miller of Kirkwood died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004.
Mr. Miller was born in 1913 in Blanchard, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1936, and worked for Monsanto Chemical Company in management for 41 years, retiring in 1978. He was active in AICHE, Experience, Inc., The Lifelong Learning Institute at Washington University and the First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood.
Mr. Miller was the husband of the late Marian Miller; father of Ann K. Miller, Mary L. Miller, Ellen L. Vartian and David B. Miller. Mary Jane Milligan (nee McKay) of Kirkwood died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.
Mrs. Milligan was the wife of Richard P. Milligan; mother of Paul (Tamra) Milligan and Sue (Irwin) Zaetz; grandmother of Ryan and Kevin Milligan, Peter and Jeremy Zaetz; sister of Sue Meiners, Donald McKay, Nicholas McKay, Maureen (John) Schumacker and the late Jack McKay; sister-in-law of Leo (Jo) Milligan and Mary Schildz; and aunt.

Carol Matthey Miner of Glendale died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004. She was 91 years old.
When Mrs. Miner died, she'd been living in the same Glendale house her family moved into when she was four years old. Yet there was little of the world she didn't see. "My travel dreams began in my teens when I read about Easter Island, " she wrote in a notebook of reminiscences she began keeping a few years ago.
She spent nine days on Easter Island, climbed China's Great Wall, sailed on Bolivia's Lake Titicaca, retraced the Oregon Trail, visited the Taj Mahal, King Tut's tomb, Persepolis, and Stonehenge.
Mrs. Miner was 1931 class queen at Kirkwood High School and wrote the class song. She graduated from Washington University in 1935 with a degree in psychology. She became known as Glendale's unofficial historian, frequently interviewed about life there seven and eight decades earlier.
Mrs. Miner is survived by her children, Dixie McIlwraith and Michael, Peter, Clyde and Michele Miner; her grandchildren, Molly, Aaron, Joanna, Tiffany, Laura, Giacomo, and Justine; a sister, Marie Wilson; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother-in-law of John McIlwraith, Betsy Nore, Joyce Miner, and Paul Perri. A memorial gathering for friends and family will take place at the Miners' home at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Elizabeth Anne Jarvis Moller of University City died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, from a bone marrow disease and related heart complications. She was 91 years old.
Mrs. Moller served on the Kirkwood Board of Education from 1953 to 1956, during which time she helped pioneer the integration of the local public school system. She was president of the St. Louis/St. Louis County White House Conference on Education from 1960 to 1963, and in 1966 served with Lieutenant Governor Thomas Eagleton as co-chairperson of the first state wide Governor's Conference on Education.
In 1969, the Globe Democrat named her a "Woman of Achievement." That same year she was also cited as a distinguished alumna of Washington University.
Mrs. Moller was preceded in death by her son, Glenn L. Moller Jr. (killed in Vietnam, 1968); by Glenn Sr., her husband of 54 years; and by her brother, Harold Jarvis.
She is survived by her children, Thomas and Peter (Sharon) Moller; one sister, Ethel "Kay" Fischer; five granddaughters, Elizabeth Anne (Betsy), Rachael, Abigail, Pila and Felicia; brother-in-law Robert (Audrey) Moller of Kirkwood; sister-in-law Rose Jarvis; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 28, 2:30 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Webster Groves, 10 W. Lockwood Ave. Her body was cremated, and the ashes buried next to those of her husband on church property.

Charles E. Monfort Jr. of Kirkwood died Thursday, April 29, 2004. He was 90 years old.
Mr. Monfort had lived in Kirkwood since 1946. He was born in St. Louis and raised in St. Louis and Alton, Ill. After graduating from Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering in 1934, he was employed with Union Electric Co., now Ameren UE, for 34 years.
Mr. Monfort served with the Army Corps of Engineers at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis and later at the Air Force Supply Depot in Topeka, Kans. After retiring from UE in 1969 he worked for the L.E. Meyers Co. in Saudi Arabia, and did consulting work for the Arabian American Oil Company.
Mr. Monfort was president of the St. Louis County Grand Jury Association in the mid 1970s. He served on the Planning and Zoning and Boards of Adjustment for the city of Kirkwood, was a member of the Kirkwood Garden Club, the American Legion and Experience, Inc. He was a founding member of St. Gerard Majella Parish.
Mr. Monfort is survived by a brother, John B. Monfort; sister, Margaret Boals; son, Charles E. Monfort III, daughter, Barbara M. (Arthur J.) Monfort McDonnell; and two grandsons, Peter A. McDonnell and Alex B. McDonnell.
