Margaret Elizabeth Huxhold
1950 - 2016

Margaret (nee Gough) Huxhold, born on the lucky day of 5/5/50 to Elizabeth Gough and the late William Gough, passed away on July 18 from complications of multiple sclerosis. Maggie was the eldest of five siblings, who she used to drive around in her green Mustang. After getting her master’s degree from University of Missouri, she worked as a reference librarian at St. Louis County Library and was the director of libraries at St. Louis Community College at Meramec and at Florissant Valley. With students, her children, and her relatives she considered helping them her favorite challenge and her most satisfying reward. Despite a chronic and challenging illness, she never lost her terrific sense of humor. She loved movies and shared movie nights at home and in the theater with her friends. Music was a big part of her life, and when they were toddlers, she danced with her daughters to Simon and Garfunkel and introduced her buttoned-down husband to her favorite band, Chicago. She was everybody’s spell-checker long before computers took over, and her photographic memory kept everyone on their toes about family history and other details. She was always the life of the party, making sure everyone was having a good time. A stranger was a friend she hadn’t met. Hers was a kind heart, and a sweet personality-a bright light in the world.

Maggie is survived by her husband John, her daughters Mary and Lilly, her sisters Kate Stewart and Ellen Gough, her brothers Bill and Dan Gough, and her mother Elizabeth Gough.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 30th, from 9am-11am at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood. Memorial service to follow in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be sent to The MS Center of St. Louis, 1176 Town and Country Commons, Chesterfield, MO 63017 or online at www.mscenterstl.org and include Margaret’s name.
