Oliver was a Medal of Valor recipient, while a Clayton policeman. He retired from the Clayton Police Department after 25 years, but stayed on in other capacities, working for the City of Clayton a total of 44 years. He was a past Master Mason of Clayton Masonic Lodge 601 and Shriner. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Clayton High Twelve.
