THOMPSON, RICHARD KEITH, was born in St. Louis, MO, on November 27, 1915; he graduated from the St. Louis Country Day School (Class of 1934) and Washington and Lee University (Class of 1938); he also received a degree from the Executive MBA Program of Columbia University. Later Richard's name was changed to Earl Clinton Thompson Jr.; his father, Earl C. Thompson Sr., was one of the original backers of Col. Charles A. Lindbergh in his non-stop flight to Paris and a close friend. In 1940, Earl married Virginia Witherington Baugh. From 1942 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army and was discharged as a Captain. In 1946, he joined the Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company and in 1957 became a senior officer located at the Atlantic's headquarters at 45 Wall St., retiring in 1980; during his career, he served as National Manager of Underwriters and Senior Vice President. During that period, he lived in Short Hills, NJ and he was a member of the Short Hills Club, the University Club (NYC) and the Downtown Association of NYC. Upon retirement, he and his wife had homes in Highlands, NC and Ponte Vedra, FL and were members of the Highlands Country Club, Ponte Vedra Club and the Tournament Players Club/Sawgrass. He and his wife moved to Vicar's Landing in November, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia; two children, Philip Clinton Thompson of Atlanta, GA and Erin Thompson Johnson of Silver Spring, MD and three grandchildren. A private interment service will be held on June 7th in St. Louis, MO.
