Lola Smith
Lola Smith, 74, of Byhalia, died April 23, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. She was a member of The Jehovah Witness.
Services were held at 12 noon on April 28 at The Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Michael Smith officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Eunice Smith; two sons, Michael Smith of Patterson, NY, Ronnie Smith of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Marshall Malone of Victoria; two sisters, Naomi Malone of Victoria, Omega Larkin of West Point; and a granddaughter.
George William Thornton
George William (Bill) Thornton, 62, of Memphis, Tenn., died April 30, 2005 at his home. He was a member of Parkway Village Methodist Church. He was employed in printing ink sales. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 2 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery. Bro. Paul Knight officiated.
He leaves his wife, Ina Faye Work Thornton; a daughter, Victoria Thornton; a sister, Carol Florow of Diamondhead; and two grandchildren.
Edna Cochran Wells
Edna Cochran Wells, 56, of Holly Springs, died April 27, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of Hebron Chapel CME Church, a church secretary, an adult Sunday school teacher, a church trustee, 4-H Club troop leader, a member of Heroines of Jericho Court #38, Marshall County Woman of the Year 1998, former Social Services Director of the Year for the State of Mississippi, and secretary for the Unit Burial Association. She was social services director of Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.
Services were held at 12 noon on May 2 at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Burial was in Hebron Chapel CME Church Cemetery. Rev. Shawn Patton officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Willie Lewis Wells Sr.; two sons, Willie Lewis Wells Jr., Elton Franklin, both of Holly Springs; her mother, Pearlie Cochran of Holly Springs; nine sisters, Lillian Smith of Holly Springs, Hannah Tunstall of Victoria, Joanner Edwards of Olive Branch, Alice Jean Frazier of Memphis, Inez Collier of Milwaukee, Wisc., Willie Etta Wortham of Jackson, Ida Brown, Sarah Moore, Pearlie Smith, all of St. Louis, Mo.; four brothers, John William Cochran of Hillside, N.J., Elree Cochran Jr. of Holly Springs; David Cochran of Ashland, Philander Cochran of Atlanta, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her son, Willie Lorenzo Wells.
Pallbearers were Edward Sims Jr., C.L. Wilkins, Eric Lester, Nathaniel Tunstall, James Alford, Sammie Faulkner, Wayne Stinson, James Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Eric Tunstall, Sterling Edwards, Jessie Frazier, Wendell Smith, Charles Wortham, Dean Cochran, John Cochran III, Jonathan Edwards, Eldred Cochran, Wesley Smith, Cedric Wortham, William Cochran.
Nancy Evans
Nancy Evans, 84, of Albany, Ga., formerly of Holly Springs, died April 12, 2005 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Alfred Cleveland Evans. She worked as a sales lady with Sears.
She will be buried in Lebanon Community Cemetery. Matthews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Tryphenia McKinnon
Tryphenia McKinnon, 83, of Holly Springs, died April 18, 2005 at her home. She served on the church usher board. She was a member of the Holly Springs Federation Club and the American Legion Post 250. She retired from the Marshall County Health Department.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 23 at Anderson Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Rev. Denise Anders-Modest officiated. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Gardens. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two sons, Anthony McKinnon of Holly Springs, Lincoln McKinnon of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Hazel Ivory of Palm Bay, Fla., Odella McKinnon of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Mahlon Mims of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Youtie B. Miller
Youtie B. Miller, 67, of Champaign, Ill., formerly of Waterford, died in Champaign. He became a member of New Hope MB Church in Waterford at age nine. He moved to Champaign, Ill., in 1955. He joined Pilgram MB Church where he served as an usher. He later became a member of Church of the Living God in Champaign. He was employed by Twin City Fish and Poultry Company for 22 years.
He leaves his wife, Willie Mae Miller; 12 children, Roger, Bruce, Rosita, Maryann, J.B., Jerome, Pam, Juanita, Trenin, Chataka, Latisha, and Veda; two sisters, Hattie Marion, Virginia Payne; 23 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Enoch Miller, Bernard Miller and Barnie Miller.
Alice Louise Steele
Alice Louise Steele, 90, of Memphis, Tenn., died April 19, 2005 in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Lloyd N. Steele.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on April 28 at Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne, Ark. Rev. Beth Perdue and Rev. Dennis Neenan officiated. Kernodle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two sons, Richard Ragon Steele of Cordova, Tenn., Terry Joe Steele of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Betty Jean Steele Wimberly of Waterford; two brothers, Forrest Mitchell, C.W. (Bill) Mitchell of Wynne; a sister, Mary Mitchell Combs of Cordova; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Clyde Campbell Teel
Clyde Campbell Teel, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, died April 25, 2005 at his home. A member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, he was a retired farmer and employee of the Marshall County School System. An Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. One of the first soldiers to embark at Omaha Beach during the Normandy Invasion on July 6, 1944, he was awarded the European Campaign Medal with the Silver Star and Arrowhead, the Good Conduct Medal, the Honorable Service Award and the Presidential Unit Emblem.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 28 at Carey Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Bro. Troy Styers, Bro. Arnold Goode, Bro. Carl Teel, Bro. O.E. Langner, Bro. Jimmy Sparks and Bro. Ken Guffey will officiate. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Allene Gardner Teel; a son, Ivy Wayne Teel of Mt. Pleasant; three daughters, Martha Fant of Holly Springs, Kathy Goode of Mt. Pleasant, Madge Winburn of Hickory Flat; ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Teel, Knox Teel, Curtis Teel; and four sisters, Ethel Joyner, Etoile Langston, Orene Tollison and Ava Belle Johnson.
Pallbearers were Gary Teel, Danny Goode, Paul Goode, David Goode, Randy Mayer, Chris Winburn. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Langston, Daniel Teel, Tony Kelly, Claude Pannell, Bill Harris, Blake Palmer, Michael Green, Monroe Bolden, Billy McClure, Don Bumpas and Preston Dunn.
