Olivia Moore Pryor
Olivia Moore Pryor, 87, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 13, 2005 at home. She was the widow of James Otto Moore and James Harold Pryor.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 15 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery in Holly Springs. Kerry Reid officiated.

She leaves three sons, James Moore, Jerry Moore, Sonny Pryor Jr., all of Holly Springs; two daughters, Mary Dale Pryor, Paula Ann Pryor, both of Holly Springs; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Sam Moore.

Pallbearers were David Pryor, Ronnie Pryor, Dupre Strickland, Monty Strickland, Ronnie Johnson, Larry Wilkinson.

George Cornell Washington
George Cornell Washington, 77, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 19, 2005 at his home. He was a retired truck driver with Coca Cola Bottling Company, and a World War II veteran.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 22 at Powell Chapel MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Eddie Walker officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Bessie M. Reliford Washington; five daughters, Dorothy Mae Washington of Byhalia, Georgia Tucker, Bessie Faulkner, Earline Bowers, all of Holly Springs, Frances W. Jones of Pleasant Grove, Ala.; a son, Eugene Washington of Holly Springs; two brothers, William Henry Wright of Holly Springs, Gervis Wright of Holly Springs; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kent Beard, Lester Mull, Anthony Ivy, Otis Brown, Sylvester Rooks, Orlando Brown. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Kenneth Washington, Carlos Washington, Demarcus Washington, Kenneth Tucker, Marvin Clayborn, Demonte Washington.

Zadie Bowen
Zadie Bowen, 90, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Holly Springs, and Chicago, Ill., died Jan. 3, 2005 at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Las Vegas. She was the widow of Alex Wells, a former member of Mt. Peel MB Church in Laws Hill, and a retired beautician.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 15 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Evelyn Elliott officiated.

She leaves a daughter, Mary H. Burke of Las Vegas; a sister, Neddie Lemons of Holly Springs; a grandson, Richard E. Burke of Las Vegas; and a great-granddaughter, Raven Burke of Chicago.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Madie Bowen, Kansas Green, Clara Avery; and six brothers, Galvesteon Bowen, Doc. M. Bowen, Matt C. Bowen, Lemon Bowen, Artis Bowen, Gary Bowen.

Pallbearers were friends and family.

Laura C. Burchette
Laura C. Burchette, 92, of Collierville, Tenn., died Jan. 11, 2005 at Collierville Baptist Church. She was the widow of James Newsom Burchette.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 14 at First Baptist Church Collierville, where she was a member. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville. Son-in-law Dr. Michael O’Brian officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four sons, J.T. Burchette of Loudon, Tenn., Owens Burchette of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Leon Burchette of Collierville, Stanley Burchette of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., three daughters, Mary Skelton, Eva Watkins, both of Collierville, Nita O’Brien of Lexington; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Nettie Maye Medlin Cunningham
Nettie Maye Medlin Cunningham, 93, of Byhalia, died Jan. 14, 2005 at Collierville Baptist Hospital. She was the widow of Isaac David Cunningham.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17 at Byhalia Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four daughters, Jean Nichols of Smyrna, Tenn., Mary Dillingham of Horn Lake, Ida Holyfield, Brenda Holyfield, both of Byhalia; two sons, John Spellman of Searcy, Ark., William Spellman of Potts Camp; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International.

Sibyl Garner
Sibyl Garner, 94, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 14, 2005 at Trinity Missions Nursing Home. She was the widow of Lewis J. Garner, a member of First Baptist Holly Springs, a sales clerk with Miller’s Department Store. She moved to Holly Springs in 1947 and joined First Baptist Church in Holly Springs. She was a member of Eastern Star for 25 years.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Etta. Dr. Curtis Ferrell officiated.

She leaves three sons, Keith Garner of Memphis, Tenn., Hugh B. Garner of Millington, Neil Garner of Pickwick, Tenn.; a sister, Alvree Sneed; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Walker.

Pallbearers were Tony Garner, David Walker, Herman Young, Michael Coleman, Blair Garner, Ben Gaines Jr., David Weir.

Mark Havens
Mark Havens, 42, of Nesbit, died Nov. 30, 2004 at his home. He was a surveyor and co-owner of B&H Construction.

Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 19 at Hernando Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Eastover Memorial Cemetery in Oxford.

He leaves his wife, Sherri Havens; two daughters, Jordan Havens, Sarah Havens, both of Nesbit; his parents, Louis and Katie Havens of Oxford; a sister, Denise Harris of Oxford.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Lillie Mae Jones
Lillie Mae (Frick) Jones, 60, of Coldwater, died Jan. 10, 2005 at her home. She was a member of the Mother Board.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 15 at Union Valley Baptist Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery in Tyro. Rev. Joe L. Richmond officiated. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. of Holly Springs was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four daughters, Shelia Jones of Holly Springs, Josephine Hall, Sarah Mays, Lena Mae Jones, all of Coldwater; seven sons, Lee Jones of Chicago, Ill., Hubart Jones, George Jones, Daniel Jones, Herbert Jones, all of Coldwater, Steven Jones of Memphis, Tenn., and Mark Jones of Holly Springs; two brothers, Edward Freeman of Tyro, Jerome Howell of Coldwater; 30 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
