Joyce Avonale Fooshee Bumpas, 61, of Mt. Pleasant, died Oct. 3, 2005 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and an office manager with Star Electric Co.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Kossuth. Bro. John Budlong officiated.

She leaves her husband, Donald Bumpas; three daughters, Melissa Ann Bumpas Gardner of Shreveport, La., Stephanie Ethel Bumpas Russell of Germantown, Tenn., Donna Sue Bumpas Meadows of Collierville, Tenn.; her mother Avis Christine Fooshee of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Olis Fooshee of Germantown, Paul Fooshee of Cordova, Tenn.; three sisters, Geraldine Dean of Cordova, Tenn., Marilyn Nelson of West Memphis, Ark., Sue Pattridge of Shreveport, La.; and six grandchildren.

Linda F. Cook
Linda F. Cook, 59, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 8, 2005 at her home. She was a Christian and a computer systems operator with Revenue Assurance.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Bro. Tim Anderson officiated.

She leaves her husband, Glenn L. Cook; two daughters, Barrie Ann Uptagrafft of Cordova, Tenn., Stacy Lynn Clayton of Holly Springs; a brother, James D. Brown of Cordova, Tenn.; a sister, Frankie Lynn Dugard; and four grandchildren.

Curtis Echols
Curtis (Cake) Echols, 60, of Holly Springs, formerly of Aurora, Ill., died Oct. 5, 2005 at Briarcrest Care Home in Ashland. He was a member of Masonic Lodge and a machine operator with Caterpillar of Aurora.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 8 at Strickland United Methodist Church in Byhalia, where he was a former member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Stewart officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Catrina Echols of Aurora, Ill.; two sons, Dontae Jackson, Antwan Jackson, both of Aurora; his mother, Janie Stewart Echols of Holly Springs; five sisters, Mary Echols, Iolia Rayford, Dorothy Echols, all of Aurora, Thelma Martin, Annie Jones, both of Holly Springs; six brothers, R.J. Echols of Syracuse, N.Y., Bobby Echols of Memphis, Tenn., John Wesley Echols of Sacramento, Calif., Morris Echols, Herbert Echols, Roosevelt Echols, all of Holly Springs; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Hubert Davis, Morgan Martin, William Martin, D’Anthony Jones, D’Andre’ Jones, Ben Mayfield Jr. Honorary pallbearers were R.J. Echols, Roosevelt Echols, Bobby Echols, Morris Echols, John W. Echols and Herbert Echols.

Mary Eleanor Malone Jeffries
Mary Eleanor Malone Jeffries, 51, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 1, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was a member of Mt. Gilead CME Church and a retired housekeeper with Holiday Inn Express in Olive Branch.

Services were held at 12 noon on Oct. 8 at Rust College Doxey Auditorium. Burial was in Mt. Gilead CME Church Cemetery. Rev. Charles Richmond officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Robert Jeffries; two daughters, Michelle M. Kinkle, Rolanda LaTasha Jeffries, both of Holly Springs; two sons, George Durrell Jeffries, Kenneth Natrete Jeffries, both of Holly Springs; her mother, Modena Elliott Malone of Holly Springs; three sisters, Segretta Elliott Sims of Holly Springs; Dorothy Elliott McKinney of Aurora, Ill., Christopher Elaine Malone of Holly Springs; two brothers, James Malone, William (Pete) Malone, both of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her nephews. Honorary pallbearers were the stewards of the church.

Jack D. Scott
Jack D. (Scotty) Scott, 76, of Slayden, died Oct. 5, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict era and a retired vice president for the Pickering Firm. He was a professional engineer whose projects included Memphis City Hall, the Memphis International Airport, the Mid-South Coliseum and Mud Island.

Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 8 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.

He leaves his wife, Dena Scott; his sons, Joseph Scott of Slayden, Jonathan Scott of Oxford, Dolph Moore of Hohenwald, Tenn., Terry Moore of Bartlett, Tenn., Rick Moore of Orlando, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Lafayette County Humane Society in Oxford.

Lillie M. Stacks
Lillie M. Stacks, 87, of Byhalia, died Oct. 5, 2005 at Germantown Methodist Hospital. She was the widow of Claudie Stacks, a member of First Baptist Church in Byhalia and an assembler with Gem, Inc.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Byhalia Cemetery. Bro. Leon Burton officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three sons, Terry Thomas of Red Banks, Jerry Thomas, Major Stacks, both of Southaven; a daughter, Joyce Brady of Southaven; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Gordon Hardee Stone
Gordon Hardee Stone, 74, of Ashland, died Oct. 8, 2005. Retired from USDA Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service after 42 years of service having served as county executive director in Benton County and later as district director. He was founder and principal broker of Gordon Stone Realty in Ashland. He was an active member of Ashland Baptist Church having served as chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday school superintendent and teacher for a number of years. He was a leader in the Ashland Civic Club, serving as president several terms. He was active in Ashland’s first volunteer fire department and served one term on the Ashland Board of Aldermen. He represented Benton County on the CREATE Foundation’s Commission on the Future of Northeast Mississippi. He also served several years on the Board of Directors of Marshall Academy in Holly Springs.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 12 at Ashland Baptist Church. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Hope Summerour Stone; two sons, mayor Bill Stone of Ashland, Kent Stone of Holly Springs; a daughter, Julie Robinson of Holly Springs; a sister, Ann McClatchy of Red Banks; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Ashland Baptist Church Multifunction Building Fund, P.O. Box 35, Ashland, MS 38603

Alonzo Brown
Alonzo Brown, 66, of Lansing, Mich., formerly of Oxford, died Oct. 5, 2005 at Sparrow Medical Center in Lansing. He was a retired production supervisor in the textile factory.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct 12 at St. Peters Cemetery in Oxford. Rev. Peter Johnson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves three daughters, Jeanella Brown, Shannon Brown, Leta Brown, all of Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, Kendall Brown of Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Dr. Georgia Brown Padonu, Doyle Jones Mayes, both of Holt, Mich. and a host of grandchildren.
