James H. Dodson

James H. “Bubba” Dodson, 67, of Potts Camp, died Oct. 8, 2013, at Baptist Hospital DeSoto in Southaven. He was a veteran, having served in the Navy.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 12 at Lifepoint Church in Senatobia. Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Sarah Dodson; four daughters Jennifer Partain (Donald) of Senatobia, Carrie Dodson of Potts Camp, DeAnna Gibbons (John) of Potts Camp, Kelly Rogers of Red Banks; two sons, James H. Dodson III (Brandy) of Holly Springs, Charles Dodson (Shelia) of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Sue Kelly, Lisa West (Jackie), both of Potts Camp; a brother, Ronnie Dodson (Deborah) of Potts Camp; and 13 grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Foundation, or a charity of choice.

Charles Edward Duncan Sr.

Charles Edward Duncan Sr., 46, died Oct. 7, 2013, at his home. He was a graduate of Holly Springs High School. He was a Mason and employed with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department for many years.

Services were held at 12 noon on Oct. 11 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor S.A. Phillips officiated. Pastor LaDarryl Odum, eulogist. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Masheetta Duncan; three sons, Ahmaud Campbell of Holly Springs, Zachary Jenkins of Oxford, Charles Duncan Jr. of Red Banks; a daughter, Brittany Duncan of Red Banks; three sisters, Deloris Jackson (Corley) of Memphis, Tenn., Willie Eva Duncan of Holly Springs, Lula Duncan of Memphis; and a brother, Stanley Duncan of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were Marshall County Sheriff Department. Honorary pallbearers were Ahmaud Campbell, Charles Duncan Jr., Stanley Duncan, Tony Bowens, Harvey Payne, Antonio Duncan, Zachary Jenkins, Willie Jeffries, Levi McFadden, Terry Johnson, Decon Lucas, Kendrick Duncan and Jarvis Duncan.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George Duncan.

Ardia Mease Isom Lester

Ardia Mease Isom Lester, 70, of Byhalia, died Oct. 7, 2013, at her home. She was the widow of Walter Eugene Lester. She joined Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks and later moved to Memphis, Tenn., and joined New Galilee MB Church, where she sang in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the usher board. She later joined Mt. Peel MB Church. She was an owner of three dry cleaning services in the northern Mississippi area. She was a retired self-employed private duty nurse.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 12 at Mt. Peel MB Church in Laws Hill. Rev. Rondias Cox, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves six children, Michael Davis (Eleana) of Springfield, Mo., Theobia Davis (Margaret), Vince Davis, Tracy Lester (Maribel), all of Memphis, Janet Robertson of Covington, Ga., Tina Davis (her caregiver) of Byhalia; two brothers, Henry Mack Isom of Potts Camp, Curtis Isom of Sikeston, Mo.; two sisters, JoAnn Boyd (Winfred) of Holly Springs, Carol Cook of Memphis; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Lewis and Seionia Payne; and a brother, Eddie Frank Ford.

Pallbearers were family and friends. Honorary pallbearers were cousins.

Helen Maize Isom Marion

Helen Maize Isom Marion, 78, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 9, 2013, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Rev. George L. Marion, her husband of 55 years. She attended St. Mary High School in Potts Camp, Mississippi Industrial College and the Baptist Seminary in Tupelo, where she received her certification in Christian education. She was a member of Spring Hill MB Church, a member of the mother’s board, a choir member, first lady of the church, and retired quality control inspector with Snap-On Tools in Olive Branch.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 13 at Chulahoma MB Church. Rev. Lonnie Whitfield, pastor. Rev. Tony Taylor officiated. Burial was in Springhill MB Church Cemetery in Waterford. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her children, Joyce (Johnnie) Helms, Harrison Township, Mich., Anthony (Eleanor) Marion of Holly Springs, Michael (Gwendolyn) Marion of Blytheville, Ark., Patricia (Calvin) Powers of Memphis; siblings Frank Isom of Holly Springs, Betty Allen of Potts Camp, Roosevelt (Wanda) Isom of Memphis, Ralph (Ella) Isom of Potts Camp, Myra (James) Scales of Waterford, Rev. Earlie (Gwen) Isom of Byram, LaSalle (Clara) Isom of Holly Springs, Alma (Eddie) Manning of Rockford, Ill., Earnie (Thelma) Isom of Oxford, Sarah Berry of Brown Deer, Wisc., Billy Berry of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Leroy Berry of Blue Mountain; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Derrick V. Powers, Merrick L. Marion, Michael Marion, Edward Marion, Robin T. Powers and Eric Isom. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Anthony Marion, Michael Marion, James H. Marion, Antonie Marion, Calvin Powers, Tracy Marion, Bobby Smith and Bobby Sims.

Nancy Jean Moncrief

Nancy Jean Moncrief, 67, of Potts Camp, died Oct. 7, 2013, at Oxford Baptist Hospital. She was the widow of Marvin Thompson Moncrief and a certified nurse’s assistant.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 10 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in New Garden Cemetery in Coldwater. Bro. Danny Smithy officiated.

She leaves three sons, Marvin “Marty” Moncrief (Crystal) of Clarinden, Ark., Floyd “Buddy” Moncrief (Becky) of Byhalia, Troy Moncrief (Michelle) of Potts Camp; a brother, Terry Berryhill (Bonnie) of Potts Camp; a sister, Becky Pitts (Robert) of DeKalb; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Berryhill, Bobby Berryhill; and a sister, Martha Riley.

Susan Renee DeBerry Rixie

Susan Renee DeBerry Rixie, 46, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 9, 2013. She was a member of Bridgeway Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, where she was director of Angel Food Ministries.

Graveside services were held Oct. 12 at Magnolia Cemetery in Coldwater. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home - Senatobia Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Brent Rixie; two sons, Bryan DeBerry of Collierville, Tenn., Jeremy Dickerson of Texas; a stepdaughter, Brandy DeBerry of Oxford; two stepsons, Airman Joshua B. Rixie of Turkey, Blake Rixie of Southaven; her parents, Dale and Margie Hadskey of Coldwater; a brother, Dale Hadskey Jr. of Coldwater.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to the Lupus Foundation, Memphis Chapter, 3181 Poplar Avenue, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38111-3523.

Willis F. Smith

Willis F. Smith, 81, of Hickory Flat, died Oct. 10, 2013, in Hickory Flat. He was a Methodist, an International Harvester employee and an Army veteran of Korea.

Graveside services were held at McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Neal Vick officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Mabaleen Smith; a daughter, Debra Rogers (David) of Hickory Flat; his sister, Betty Boren of Hickory Flat; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly J. Mardis.

Matthew Tucker Jr.

Matthew Tucker Jr., 79, of Tupelo, died Oct. 8, 2013, at his home. He was co-founder of New Life Baptist Church in Tupelo, where he served as head deacon. He was also a former member of the Jones Grove Gospel Singers. He was employed at Holly Springs Brick and Tile Company until his retirement in the early 1980s.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 12 at Calvin Chapel UM Church in Holly Springs. Pastor Robert DeBerry officiated. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves seven daughters, Janice (Robert) DeBerry of Tupelo, Kathy (James) House of Paulding, Mildred (Roger) Storey, Sandra Kay Tucker, Shunder Tucker, Tanya Tucker (Willie Lee Finley), all of Holly Springs, Lavern Seay of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, Matthew R. Tucker of Holly Springs; two sisters, Irma Walls, Flora Brooklin, both of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Dewitt Tucker of Detroit, Mich., James Tucker of Houston, Texas.; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Charles Tucker, Antonio Tucker, Jimmy Tucker, Keldrick Tucker, Pierre Tucker and Tim Pedigree. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Tucker, Rodriquez Lesure, Willie Lee Finley, Roger Storey, Armazyio Lesure and James Jones.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kelvin Tucker; a sister, Velma Pegues; three brothers, Will, Jody and Howard Tucker.
