Gertrude Harris
Gertrude Harris, 81, of Byhalia, died Nov. 20, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville. She was the widow of Edward Lee Harris. She was a member of Coldwater Baptist Church and an inspector with Wonder Products.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Coldwater Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Michael May officiated.
She leaves four daughters, Marie Thompson of Southaven, Shirley Mills of Byhalia, Joyce Smith of Paducah, Ky., Charlotte Jeffreys of Destin, Fla.; five sons, Robert (Bo) Harris, Jimmy Harris, Larry Harris, Danny Harris, Randy Harris, all of Byhalia; her sister, Mary Sides Mills of Mt. Pleasant; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lawrence L. Walton
Lawrence L. “Big Rock” Walton, 68, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 23, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare in Holly Springs. He was a retired construction worker, a member of Beverly Chapel CME Church, church steward, choir president and member of Masonic Lodge.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 29 at Hopewell No. 1 MB Church. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Lexine Smith officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Dorothy J. Thompson Walton; three daughters, Cora Walton, Renee Taylor, Debbie Walker, all of Holly Springs; a son, Robert E. Walton of Memphis; a sister, Glennie Mae Ricardo of Compton, Calif.; five brothers, Robert Walton of Aurora, Ill., Kinnard (Tobe) Walton of Holly Springs, Timothy Walton of Aurora, Ill., Herbert Walton of Holly Springs, Prentiss Walton of Holly Springs; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marquette Walton; brothers, George, Willie, Leroy, David, James, and Jim Walton.
Pallbearers were Marvin Walton, Robert Woods, Jerry Reed, Keith Walton, Dayton Reed Jr., Kinnard Walton Jr. and Michael Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Walton, Herbert Walton, Tim Walton, Kinnard Walton Sr. and Dewitt Walton.
Nellie Faye Bowling
Nellie Faye Bowling, 101, of Rossville, Tenn., died May 8, 2006 at Allianice HealthCare. She was the widow of T.W. Bowling and a member of Grace Independent Church in Rossville. She was founder, trustee and treasurer of Grace Independent. She was a past member of Methodist Conference.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on May 10 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, Tenn. Bro. Ken Stovall officiated.
She leaves a daughter, Helen M. McKnight of Gordo, Ala.; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, T.W. Bowling and Robert Milton Bowling.
Pallbearers were Andy Pleasant, Matt Pleasant, Brian Bowling, Sam Devore, Steve Pleasant and Justin Hancock.
Nellie Skelton Byrd
Nellie Skelton Byrd, 94, of Holly Springs, died May 2, 2006 at her home. She was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on May 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery. Bro. Charles Knight officiated.
She leaves a son, Walker Byrd of Olive Branch; a daughter, Effie Bolden of Holly Springs; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sons, Dean Byrd, Ramey Byrd, Jack Byrd Jr. and Ronney Byrd; and a daughter, Josephine Rhea.
Pallbearers were Ronald Bolden, Chris Bolden, Heath Bolden, Joe Byrd, Derrick Byrd and Randy Rhea. Honorary pallbearer was Walker (Bo) Byrd.
Patricia Ann Young Fletcher
Patricia Ann Young Fletcher, 59, of Byhalia, died May 7, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She attended Abundant Grace Ministries.
A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. on May 12 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel in Olive Branch.
She leaves a daughter, Pattie Fortune; three sons, Tommy Ray Henderson, David Wayne Henderson and Randall James Young; her “significant other,” Mike Fletcher; three brothers, Henry Jackson Fair, Mark A. Lambert and Glen Henry Fair; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Joice Hughes
Joice Hughes, 51, of Holly Springs, died April 27, 2006 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on May 6 at Chulahoma MB Church. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Jessie Hughes; two daughters, Joice Ann Roberts of Holly Springs, Teresa A. Raimey of Hickory Flat; a stepdaughter, Lagretta Hughes of Holly Springs; five sons, Roy C. Hughes, Andre’ T. Hughes, Antonio D. Hughes, all of Holly Springs, Michael E. Hughes of Red Banks, Anthony D. Hughes of Horn Lake; a stepson, Jessie Hughes Jr. of Holly Springs; her mother, Loretha Davis of Holly Springs; grandmother, Sadie Ellis of Holly Springs; four sisters, Birthia Martin, Sadie Barksdale, both of Holly Springs, Mattie Harden, Annie Hardin, both of Myrtle; two brothers, William Davis, Roy Davis, both of Holly Springs; two honorary daughters, Latosha Faulkner of Holly Springs, Latish King of Potts Camp; and 12 grandchildren.

Rachel Miller, 74, of Holly Springs, died April 27, 2006 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Holly Springs. She was a member of Jones Grove MB Church in Holly Springs and a domestic worker in private homes.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 3 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated.
She leaves a son, Henry Miller of Holly Springs; three sisters, Dinah Foster of Blue Mountain, Rebecca Austin of Memphis, Tenn., Rosie Lee Williams of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Horace Miller Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers were her nephews.
