Roosevelt Lanely, 63, of Mt. Pleasant, died June 28, 2006 at home.
Services were held at 12 noon on July 8 at Church of Christ, Mt. Pleasant. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Phenora Campbell Lanely; three sons, Charles Campbell, Roosevelt Lanely Jr., Clyde William Lanely, all of Lamar; two daughters, Mary Anne Moore of Holly Springs, Francis Moore of Hickory Flat; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Jennifer Leigh May
Jennifer Leigh May, 15, of Holly Springs, died July 5, 2006 in Laws Hill.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on July 8 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Laws Hill. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Arnold Goode officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her parents, Lee and Brenda May of Holly Springs; a brother, Jeremy May of Holly Springs; and her grandmother, Mary L. May of Holly Springs.
Pallbearers were Jeremy May, Ronnie May, Michael May, Dennis Bryan, Perry Fesmire, Anthony May, Stacy Byrd, Neil Darnell and Scott Feathers.
John Howard Williams
John Howard Williams, 75, of Byhalia, died July 5, 2006 at his home. He was the widower of Fleeta Mock Williams. He was a Methodist. He was retired as a pilot with the Air Force after two tours in Vietnam in 1973 and he earned two Bronze Stars. He was a retired pilot from Fed-Ex in Memphis in 1989.
Full military memorial services were held at 10 a.m. on July 8 at his home in Byhalia. Ripley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three daughters, Shirley Sykes of Byhalia, Donna Williams of Collierville, Tenn., Regina Sides of Byhalia; two sons, Robin Williams of Byhalia, Kerry Williams of Michigan City; two sisters, Virginia Harper of Florida, Mary Alice Shaw of Carlinville, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Ora D. Alexander Shead
Ora D. Alexander Shead, 94, of Holly Springs, died July 5, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was a former Sunday school teacher.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 10 at Hernando Road Church of Christ in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Bro. Charlie J. Shead officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband of 74 years, Charlie Shead; three daughters, Elvera Hampton of Calumet Park, Ill., Elzadie Johnson of Gary, Ind., Louvadie King of Memphis, Tenn.; six sons, Alexander Shead, Alvis Shead, Thomas Shead, all of Holly Springs, Charlie J. Shead of Memphis, Tenn., Parmena Shead of Chicago, Ill., Larry Shead of Denton, Tx.; a brother, John Milton Alexander of Chicago, Ill.; 38 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Thurman Shead, Edna Shead and Almedia Shead Peterson.
Pallbearers were Orlandus Bonner, Norvis Shead, Christopher Shead, J. Anthony Shead, Larry Shead III and Derek King.
Lucille Smith
Lucille Smith, 88, of Holly Springs, died July 6, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Benny P. Smith. She was a member of Whitehaven Church of Christ.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 8 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
She leaves a sister, Alise Wilson White of Hickory Flat.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Rufus Wilson, James Wilson, Vernon Wilson, Ray Wilson, Joe Wilson; and sisters, Ruby Johnson, Sallie Cothern.
Maenuia Spight
Maenuia Spight, 53, of Holly Springs, died July 3, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of the usher board, Missionary Society and Christian Education Dept. She was a dental assistant with GEO Corporation, Marshall County Correctional Facility.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 8 at Isom Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Veronica Spight of Memphis, Tenn.; her mother, Annie Jones Spight of Holly Springs; three sisters, Arnora Marshall, Delorise Jones, both of Memphis, Tenn., Sandra Overshown of Boston, Mass.; four brothers, Leon Spight of Holly Springs, Alex Spight Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Brankely Spight, Raymond Spight, both of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alex Spight Sr.; her sister, Evia Spight; and her brother, Lavern Spight.
Pallbearers were Melvin Baskin, Rocky Shoats, Bonnye Jordan, DeMarce Spight, Dwayne Spight and Christopher Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Alex Spight Jr., Leon Spight, Brankley Spight and Raymond Spight.
Shirley J. Pierce
Shirley J. White Pierce, 71, of Holly Springs, died July 7, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. She was the widow of James Richard Pierce. She was a Baptist. She was owner/operator of Shirley’s Fabrics and former owner of Cato’s Fashions in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 9 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Dr. Curtis Ferrell and Rev. Donnie Stewart officiated.
She leaves her son, Tony Pierce of Bartlett, Tenn.; her daughter, Tanya Conway of Olive Branch; a brother, Max White of Denmark, Miss.; five sisters, Dora Williams of Iuka, Ginger Morris of Water Valley, Tilly House, Rose House, both of Denmark, Miss., Sarah Holloway of Mountain View, Mo.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Hope Hall.
Frances Juanita McAlexander Armour
Frances Juanita McAlexander Armour, 82, of Memphis, Tenn., died June 29, 2006 at St. Francis Nursing Home in Memphis. She was the widow of Houston Armour. She was a member of Red Banks Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on July 1 at Red Banks Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a son, Terry Gordon Armour of Pontotoc; a sister, Mary Lynn Mayer of Red Banks; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Houston; her parents, Preston T. and Georgia Earnheart McAlexander; brothers, Preston McAlexander Jr., Bob McAlexander, J.P. McAlexander and a sister, Gladys Woods.
