Napoleon McKinney
Napoleon McKinney, 44, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 19, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was disabled.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Adolphus Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his mother and father, Mae Frances McKinney and Nathaniel McKinney of Holly Springs; seven sisters, Nancy Jones, Willie Mae Jeffries, Gloria Byers, Loria Perkins, Brenda Wyatt, all of Holly Springs, Johnnie Mae Hurd of Memphis, Tenn., Linda Cancer of Albany, N.Y.; three brothers, Jimmy Lee Perkins of Holly Springs, Tyrone Cancer, Grady McKinney, both of Albany, N.Y. and a godson, Devon Rucker of Kansas City, Kan.
Pallbearers were Christopher Byers, Carl Nunnally, Starling Nunnally Jr., Larry Howell Jr., Broady Richmond and Bernie Byers. Honorary pallbearers were Grady McKinney, Jimmy L. Perkins, Joseph Waytt, Michael Perkins, Donald Jeffries and Tyrone Cancer.
Willie Lee Nelson
Willie Lee Nelson, 51, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 17, 2006 in Holly Springs. He was a welder with Griffin Inc. in Victoria.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 22 at Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ, where he was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Bro. Gary Young officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Mayline Nolan Nelson; five daughters, Carolyn Spearman, Nicole Hill Braden, both of Memphis, Tenn., Toccara Nolan, Lorna Nelson, Keosha Nelson, all of Holly Springs; a son, Willie Nelson Jr. of Holly Springs; four sisters, Minnie Harmon, Mary Lewis, both of Holly Springs, Judy Webster of Memphis, Tenn., Annie Nelson of Ashland; four brothers, Larry Nelson of Holly Springs, Riley Nelson Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Lonnie Nelson of Flint, Mich., Robert Harmon of Chicago, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister Linda Norvell.
Pallbearers were Andre Zinn, Tracy Nelson, Terry Blackmon, Dewitt Elliott, Shawn Tucker and Essex Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Willie Nelson Jr., Todd Richardson, Larry Nelson, Riley Nelson Jr., Lonnie Nelson and Carl Evans.
Carl Smith
Carl Smith, 74, of Potts Camp, died Jan. 16, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare in Holly Springs. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Potts Camp, retired from U.S. Corp of Engineers and a Navy veteran of Korea.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 19 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Waterford. Bro. Paul Middleton, Bro. Bobby Bowman and Bro. Jim Buchanan officiated.
He leaves his wife, Shirley Smith; a son, Carl Dwight Smith of Potts Camp; a daughter, Carla Humphreys of Potts Camp; a sister, Betty Johnson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Boyd Smith and Ervin Smith.
Ada Mae Wooten
Ada Mae Wooten, 85, of Como, died Jan. 16, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Bill Avant Wooten.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 21 at Beulah Baptist Church in Como. Burial was in the Mt. Moriah Church cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves five daughters, Ada Johnson of Waterford, Mae Dean, Willie Mae Wilbourn, Deloise Wilbourn, Christine Barnett, all of Como; three sons, Fred Wooten, Robert Wooten, both of Como, James Wooten of Batesville; a sister, Annie Faulkner of Abbeville; two brothers, Abe Young of Senatobia, Lonnie George Young of Milwaukee, Wisc.; 44 grandchildren, 110 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Bobby Earl Black
Bobby Earl Black, 70, of Blytheville, Ark., formerly of Holly Springs, died at his home on Sept. 10, 2006. He attended school in Holly Springs.
Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery on Sept. 15.
He leaves three children, Gregory Black of Washington, Robert Black of Florida and Victoria Andrews of Tennessee; a brother, Kenneth Black of Alabama; four sisters, Frances Trinder of Georgia, Brenda Johnson of Florida, Joy Banville of Florida, Margaret Black of Florida; and six grandchildren.
James Wick Farris
James Wick Farris, 83, of Red Banks, died Sept. 20, 2006 at his home. He was the widower of Eleree Harpole Farris; owner of Farris Dental Laboratory; a 32nd degree Mason; a member of Scottish Rites and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 22 at Byhalia Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two sons, Larry Farris of Nashville, Tenn., James C. Farris of Red Banks; and two grandchildren.
Carrie Ann Gulledge Gatewood
Carrie Ann Gulledge Gatewood, 84, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 16, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Curley Gatewood.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 22 at Hudsonville CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Isom Chapel CME Church Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Joyce Trask of Holly Springs; a son, LaFayette Gatewood of Holly Springs; three sisters, Louise Reynolds of Youngstown, Ohio, Shirley Jamison of Chicago, Ill., Gracie Mae Hughes of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Grady Gulledge of Detroit, Mich.; and a grandson.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Vernon Goodman
Vernon Goodman, 45, of Red Banks, died Sept. 17, 2006 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ, a factory worker at the Carrier Corp. in Collierville, Tenn.
Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 20 at Newell Chapel CME Church in Victoria. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Spencer Mathis officiated. J.F. Brittenum Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Michelle Moore Goodman; a daughter, Arkeisha D. Goodman of Red Banks; his father, Charles Roy Dorsey of Nashville, Tenn.; four sisters, Neeley Barkeey of Ripley, Margaree Norman of Ripley, Katie Ross of Atlanta, Ga., Dorrect Norman of Ellisville; and five brothers, Lee V. Norman of Ripley, Robert Norman, Jerry Norman, J.P. Norman, all of Atlanta, Ga., Eddie Norman of Tupelo.
Pallbearers were John Seldon, Odell Snow, Willie Hughes, Jerome Henderson, Darryle Smith and Willie Conway. Honorary pallbearers were Nokomis Goodman, Hubert Goodman, James Moore, Leroy Hall, O.C. Moore and Edgar Moore Jr.
