David Prince Howery

David Prince Howery, 55, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Lamar, died Nov. 16, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Eternal Mercy Lutheran Church for the Deaf in Memphis and a mechanic with Power House Motor.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22 at Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church in Memphis. Burial was in Foundation of Life Church Cemetery in Lamar. Rev. Bush officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Marcia Dotson, Tiffany Willis, both of Memphis; three sons, David Payne, Floyd Arnold, Jackie Arnold, all of Memphis; his mother, Marion Slate Howery of Lamar; eight sisters, Shirley Raimey, Barbara Howery, both of Lamar, Mary Sue Daugherty of Collierville, Tenn., Jackie Howery of Houston, Texas, Denise Howery, Delois Hampton, both of Memphis, Virlene Dowdy of Aurora, Ill., Annie Jackson of Williston, Tenn.; three brothers, Lenton Howery of Joplin, Missouri, Mark Howery of Holly Springs, Morris Smith of Memphis; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Prince Howery.

Pallbearers were Kevin Howery, Dewayn Howery, Antonio Willis, Carlos Howery, Desmond Willis and Floyd Arnold. Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Mathis, Walter Daugherty and Daryl Murray.

Davis Terrell Lowery

Davis Terrell Lowery, 81, of New Albany, died Nov. 24, 2006 at his home. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS New Mexico in the South Pacific during World War II. He was the business agent of Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers Union Local #149 and also an executive board member of the International Union in Washington, DC. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Memphis, Tenn., and Temperance Hill Baptist Church in Potts Camp.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 30 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Flat Rock Church Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bros. Malcolm Brock and Jason Howell officiated.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Jessie Cox Lowery; two daughters, Wanda Lowery and Linda Gail Taylor; his sister, Billie Perkins; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and nine step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Lowery Williams.

Pallbearers were Danny Williams, Randy Boren, Jack Cox, Doyle Boatner, Ken Glass and Randy Walker.

Honorary memorials may be made for Daniel Cross, c/o The Bank of New Albany, P.O. Box 811, New Albany, MS 38652.

Essie Lee Pinson

Essie Lee (Nannie) Pinson, 73, of Pontotoc, died Nov. 20, 2006 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was the widow of Allen Pinson. She was a member of Thomas Chapel Church in Houlka.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 25 at Pontotoc Second Baptist Church. Burial was in the Thomas Chapel Church Cemetery. Rev. Terry Babers, pastor, officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her daughter, Violet Pinson Boles; three sons, Albert, Bobby and Ronnie Pinson, all of Pontotoc; a brother, Raymond Hampton of Chicago, Ill; sisters, Earline Roberson of Pontotoc, Fannie Clara Wilson of Chicago, Ill.; 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Johnny Mae Bryson, Mose Badie, Elijah Badie, Joe Bell Badie and Henry Hampton Jr.

Emmerline McKenzie Robinson

Emmerline McKenzie Robinson, 103, of Ashland, died Nov. 19, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Brooks Robinson Jr. She was a member of Palestine MB Church, on the Mother board and a former usher.

Services were held at 12 noon on Nov. 25 at Samuel Chapel MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. James Patterson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves seven daughters, Katherine Watson, Arcie L. Harris, Mary A. Branch, all of Memphis, Tenn., Cinderella Everett of Lamar, Louisiana Robinson, Gracie M. Heard, Charlie W. Perry, all of Ashland; a son, M.C. Robinson of Ashland; 26 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by children, Collene Robinson, Ollie B. Robinson and Myra Lee Robinson.

Pallbearers were Leahmon Batts, Earl Everett, Alfred Jones, Cornelious Robinson, Maurice Batts, Major Everett, Walter Onidas, Eric Robinson, David Woods, Elvis Dixon, William Everett, Carl Robinson, Tronice Rutherford and Johnnie Woods.

Rita Kay Smith

Rita Kay Smith, 52, of Waterford, died Nov. 26, 2006 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a member of Harmontown Baptist, an RN with North Mississippi Medical Center and former owner/operator of Edlin’s Fish Place in Laws Hill.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 29 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Harmontown Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Jim Pinkerton officiated.

She leaves her husband, David Smith; her daughter, Heather Cannon of Jackson; and her mother, Jean Edlin of Laws Hill.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clifton Gene Edlin.

Joe Edward Spiller

Joe Edward (Billy) Spiller, 72, of New Albany, died Nov. 20, 2006 at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany. He was employed with First National Bank for many years. He was a member of Union Grove MB Church, where he served as a trustee and choir member.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 25 at Union Grove MB Church. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in New Albany. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves four children, Margaret Spiller-Flemings, Martha Spiller Gardner, Mark Spiller, all of New Albany, Billy Joe Spiller of St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Nora Mae Wilson of New Albany, Louise Satterwhite, Mary Ann Harris, both of Evanston, Ill.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Spiller.

Mattie Elnora Porter Wilson

Mattie Elnora Porter Wilson, 100, of Waterford, died Nov. 19, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Willie F. Wilson, a Sunday school teacher, treasurer, stewardess, a member of the Missionary Society, member of Lodge, Sunrise Chapter 166 and a retired assistant teacher with ICS Headstart.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 25 at Hamilton Chapel CME Church in Waterford, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Billy Williams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three daughters, Elmira Marion Driver of Waterford, Addie Bell Ross of St. Louis, Mo., Mary Morris of Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Joe Louis Wilson, Franklin D. Wilson, both of Memphis, Tenn.; 36 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons Bryant Porter, Lloyd Pegues, Charles Ross, Frazier Wilson Jr., Donald Porter, Ricky Porter, Dennis Marion and Cordell Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were James Morriss, Clyde Driver, Joe Wilson and Franklin Wilson.

Annie Laurie Driver

Annie Laurie Driver, 59, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 18, 2006 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 21 at Heritage Apostolic Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Bro. G.R. Travis officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son Joey Horwitz of Joshua, Texas; two daughters, Tracy Grier, Angel Donaldson, both of Joshua; her mother, Louise Evans of Potts Camp; six brothers, Bobby Lewis, Jimmy Evans, both of Potts Camp, Johnny Evans of Memphis, Charles Evans, Danny Evans, Terry Evans, all of Potts Camp; three sisters, Jeannie Ash, Debbie Stanton, both of Potts Camp, Sandra Lyon of Olive Branch; and two special Christian friends, Truman Jarrett and Charles Massey.
