Edith Emmaline Hoover
Edith Emmaline Hoover, 100, of Memphis, Tenn., died April 13, 2007 at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis. She was the widow of William Porter Hoover Sr. and a Methodist.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 16, 2007 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Liberty Methodist Cemetery in Ashland.
She leaves three daughters, Mary Jane Hoover Dotson of Memphis, Tenn., Emma Lucille Hoover of Lake Worth, Fla., Lena Hoover Jordan of Ripley; 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Porter (Sonny) Hoover Jr.; and two daughters, Wilma Louise Hoover Anderson and Peggy Jean Hoover Campbell.
Mary L. May
Mary L. May, 74, of Como, died April 16, 2007. She was the widow of Herbert May and a member of Como Baptist Church.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on April 18 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
She leaves two daughters, Lisa D. May of Southaven, Michelle Jenkins of Horn Lake; four sons, David E. May of Arkansas, Lee W. May of Holly Springs, Ronald W. May of Hickory Flat, Larry M. May of Horn Lake; two brothers, Marvin Miles of Como, Bill Miles of Southaven; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer May.
Bobby Pohl
Bobby Pohl, 45, of Oxford, died April 9, 2007 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. He was a freelance construction worker and a graduate of Holly Springs High School
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on April 21 at Waller Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Robert Allen officiated.
He leaves his parents, Ralph J. Pohl Sr. and Lillian Marie Pohl of Panama City Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Nina C. Smith of Atoka, Tenn., Christie L. Wahlstrom of Horn Lake; and a brother, Ralph J. Pohl Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.

Maurine Davis Shaw
Maurine Davis Shaw, 89, of Olive Branch, died April 15, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of F.O. Shaw and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Southwood Cemetery in Olive Branch.
She leaves a son, Ronald R. Belk of Collierville, Tenn.; a daughter, Faye Drewer of Olive Branch; a brother, Thomas D. Davis of Huntsville, Ala.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Michael James Bland
Michael James Bland, 32, of Byhalia, died April 6, 2007. He was a member of Church of Christ and a shop foreman.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 10 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery in Holly Springs.
He leaves his parents, Larry and Vicki Bland of Middleton, Tenn.; two brothers, Joseph Bland of Byhalia, Christopher Bland of Middleton, Tenn.; a sister, Michelle Bland of Memphis, Tenn.; and grandparents, Floyd and Cornelia Turbeville of Cincinatti, Ohio, Herman and Sue Bland of Hamilton, Ohio
Gertrude Elizabeth Boone McAlexander
Gertrude Elizabeth Boone McAlexander, 84, of Holly Springs, died April 4, 2007 at North Mississippi Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was the widow of Roland Lee McAlexander. She was a retired banker with Bank of Holly Springs since 1944, an officer in 1956, elected to the board of directors in 1974 and began serving as secretary to the board in 1977. She retired in 1999 but continued to serve on the board until her death. She was a member of Winona First Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Town and Country Garden Club, Pilot Club, a member of the American Cancer Society, trustee for Blue Mountain College, regional director of National Association of Bank Women. She served as director of the youth department at Holly Springs First Baptist Church for many years.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 7 at First Baptist Church of Holly Springs, where she was a former member. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. Donnie Stewart, Dr. Curtis Ferrell and Rev. Phillip Dancy officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a brother, Aubrey Boone and wife Patsy of Winona; three nephews, Bill and Kathy Boone of Holly Springs, Johnny and Nancy Boone of Holly Springs, Alan and Cindy Boone of Winona; a great-nephew, Joey Boone of Nashville, Tenn., a great-niece, Libby Boone of Holly Springs, a great-nephew Gant Boone of Winona and a sister-in-law, West Boone of Holly Springs.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elliott Boone and Joe Boone.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Winona or to the Boone-McAlexander Memorial Fund at First Baptist Church in Holly Springs.
Susan B. Prince
Susan P. Prince, 70, of Byhalia, died April 5, 2007 at her home. She was a member of Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch. She was the widow of Lee A. Prince.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 7 at Longview Heights Baptist Church. Burial was in Autumn Woods Memorial Park Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four children, Marcie Wildes of Lawrenceville, Ga., Kevin Prince of Millington, Tenn., Laurie Quick of Byhalia, Derek Prince of Senatobia; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Longview Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.
John Howard Skelton
John Howard Skelton, 83, of Victoria, died April 4, 2007 at Trinity Missions Health and Rehab. He was the widower of Hazel Rainer Skelton and a mechanic with Campbell Trucking.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 6 at Red Banks Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in Red Banks Cemetery. Bro. Troy Defer officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two sons, Larry Skelton of Holly Springs, John Howard Skelton Jr. of Germantown, Tenn.; a daughter, Linda Stoltz of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother Jack Skelton of Victoria; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
