Barbara Jean Johnson Longest
Barbara Jean Johnson Longest, 70, of Holly Springs, died March 7, 2007. She was a retired educator, having served as a teacher of English and French in the public schools of Mississippi and as an assistant professor and director of testing, career counseling and placement at Rust College.
Services were held on March 12, at 10 a.m. at Anderson Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs. Burial was at Taylor’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Victoria. J. F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband of nearly 50 years, Wallace Longest; two daughters, Cyrana Longest Mott and Cereesa Longest Lacey; a sister, Edna Johnson Wright; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Charles Terry, Dale DeBerry, Otis Russell, Charles Crouther, Russell Johnson, and Cedric Adams.

Minnie Lee Poe
Minnie Lee Poe, 79, of Oxford, formerly of Holly Springs, died March 3, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of Joe McLarty and Charles E. Bennett. She had been employed 15 years as a nurse. She was a former member of Abbeville Baptist Church.
Services were held 2 p.m. on March 7 at Coleman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Abbeville Cemetery. Bro. Brett Williams and Bro. Higdon Herrington officiated.
She leaves her husband, Chalmers L. Poe Sr.; five sons, Joseph McLarty of Tacoma, Wash., Eddie McLarty of Litchfield, Ill., John McLarty of Marks, Chalmers L. Poe Jr. of Billings, Mt. Ricky L. Poe of Oxford; four daughters, Mary Enright of Vincennes, Ind., Lottie McLarty of Oxford, Mary Massey of Hickory Flat, Shelly L. Thompson of Portland, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Henry Gene Taylor
Henry Gene Taylor, 60, of Holly Springs, died March 2, 2007 at his home. He was a member of Reid’s Gift MB Church in Potts Camp, a member of Bass Brother’s Fishing Club of Holly Springs and a retired fork lift operator with Federal Compress Warehouse in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 9 at Rising Star MB Church. Burial was in Pleasant Grove MB Church Cemetery in Red Banks. Rev. Robert McClain officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Delories Bowen Taylor; three daughters, Audra Cook of Water Valley, Essie Holloway of Holly Springs, Lola Ayers of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Joel Holts, Ronnie Ayers, Antonio Bowen, all of Holly Springs; his stepmother, Annie Lane of Southfield, Mich.; six sisters, Marie Mitchell of Holly Springs, Annette Lane of Southfield, Mich., Mozella Taylor, Shirley Hankins, both of Grand Rapids, Mich., Bessie Oliver, Willie Bell Scott, both of Oxford; three brothers, Harold Craine, Sol Craine, both of Memphis, Tenn., Charles Lee Craine of Champaign, Ill.; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Bennie Ayers and Kelvin Ayers; and a sister, Janel Johnson.
Pallbearers were Orlando Bowen, Sammie Taylor, Mac Bowen, Lee Reliford, Zachery Cornelious and Gene Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Bennie Nunnally, Antonio Bowen, Ralph Wick, Antonio Taylor, Statie Smith and Archie Taylor.
William Thurman Young
William Thurman Young, 79, of Olive Branch, died March 12, 2007 at Wesley Highland Manor Nursing Home. He was a member of Fair Haven Baptist Church in Olive Branch, an auto mechanic and an Army Veteran of World War II.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on March 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Waterford. Bro. Desi Guinn and Bro. Barry Henson officiated.
He leaves his wife, Mary Nell Young; a son, Randy Young of Olive Branch; a daughter, Nan Constance Rena of Olive Branch; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Gregory Young.
Pallbearers were David McGregor, Eddie Young, Todd Godeniz, Danny Faulk and Brett Rena.
Sara Jane Brown
Sara Jane Perry Williams Brown, 65 of Hornbeak, Tenn. passed away Sunday, March 4, 2007 at her home. She was a member of the Crockett Chapel Methodist Church, a former mayor of Byhalia, and a retired bookkeeper for Coleman Engineering. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Barton Williams,
Services were held on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Burial was in the New Crossroads Cemetery. Kyle Williams and Brian Kannard officiated.
She is survived by her husband, whom she married September 28, 2002, Merlin R. Brown; four children, Kyle Williams of Jackson, Laura Williams of Nashville, Chris Brown of Sardis, Mississippi, and Hayley Jean of Hornbeak and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Logan Williams, Brian Kannard, Chris Brown, Tommy Jean, Larry Inman, and Perry Holley.

William Robert Churchill
William Robert (Bill) Churchill, 68, of Olive Branch, formerly of Potts Camp, died Feb. 25, 2007. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961, during which time he met and married Bonnie Steely. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Memphis, Tenn. He was internationally known as an ingenious engineer. He created two businesses, Craft Machine, Inc. and Churchill Engineering, where he designed and custom-built special machinery to automate manufacturers around the world. He retired to Snow Lake Shores in Ashland, where he served as town alderman.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on February 28 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Memorial Park South Woods Cemetery.
He leaves a son, Kevin Churchill; three daughters, Tammy Churchill Davison, Sharon Churchill, Linda Robinson, three brothers, Lester, Charles and Luke; a sister, Jean King; and five grandchildren.
Sylvester Pryor
Sylvester (Booth) Pryor, 93, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 22, 2007 at V.A. Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a World War II veterans and a retired farmer.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 3 at Mt. Peel MB Church in Laws Hill, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Rondias Cox officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a daughter, Alice Shaw of Broadview, Ill.; three sons, Sylvester Henderson of Holly Springs, Rev. Leon Henderson of Calumet Park, Ill., Rayford Pryor of Wynn, Ark. and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Leon Bowen, Oscar Lee James, Robert Earl James, Anthony James, Kelvin James, Vaughn P. Shumpert, Rudy Henderson and Mario Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Otis Henderson, Charles Moore, Frank Moore, John Pryor, Sam Pryor and Tony Bailey.
Hazel Custer Walker
Hazel Custer Walker, 95, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 25, 2007 at Benbrook Nursing and Rehab in Benbrook, Tx. She was the widow of Harmon Walker and a member of First Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
She leaves grandchildren Samuel Walker of Arlington, Tx., Sharon Walker of Ft. Worth, Tx.; and a niece, Betty Jane Crawford of Memphis, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Eddie Walker and Harmon Walker Jr.
