Ollie N. Watts
Ollie N. Watts, 73, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 25, 2006 at Briarcrest Extended Care in Ashland. She was a member of Holly Springs Church of Christ and retired from Mississippi Forestry.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
She leaves two son, Jackie R. Watts of Lexington, S.C., Kenny L. Watts of Byhalia; two sisters, Lyda Parham of Columbia, Tenn., Peggy Feichtinger of Hornwall, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie Watts and Wallace Watts.
Lyndol Wayne Gibson Sr.
Lyndol Wayne Gibson Sr., 73, of Kilmichael, formerly of Memphis, Tenn. and Cayce, died at his home June 12, 2007.
He leaves his wife of 46 years Jean Gibson ; two sons, Rickey Gibson Sr. of Collierville, Tenn., Bubba Gibson of Kilmichael; seven daughters, Delores Spicer of Dallas, Tx., Deborah Gatlin of Olive Branch, Viva Pearson of Kilmicheal, Christina Glisson of Horn Lake, Charman Palmertree of Kilmicheal, Nancy Gibson, Emily Gibson, both of Kilmicheal; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Lynn Gibson.
Hazel Hearn
Hazel (Big Sweet) Hearn, 55, of Holly Springs, died July 6, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. At an early age, she joined Union Valley Baptist Church. She was an employee of Courtesy One Stop.
Services were held at 12 noon on July 12 at Chulahoma MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Tony Taylor officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three children, Donna Balfour, Leroy Hearn, Roy Lee Hearn Jr., all of Holly Springs; two sisters, Alice Allener Hoyle, Pearlie Edward, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, William L. Bady of Arizona; six grandchildren, a great-grandchild and two godchildren.
Pallbearers were Rodney Miller, Otis Harden, Fredrick Campbell, Charles Faulkner, Carey Tate, Leon Hall, Jordan Collins and Ben Virges.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Bady, Richard Balfour, Silas Balfour Jr. and Lee Balfour.
Mary Etta Howell
Mary Etta Howell, 89, of Holly Springs, died July 6, 2007 at Trinity Missions Health and Rehab Home. She was the widow of Frank Howell, and a seamstress.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 8 at Hickory Flat Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Temperance Hill Cemetery. Bro. Johnny Rakestraw officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two sons, Frank Howell Jr. of Paris, Tenn., Clyde Howell of Hickory Flat; a daughter, Mary Nell Hill of Hickory Flat; two sisters, Sarah Rebecca Clifton of Potts Camp, Evelyn Irene Howell of Hickory Flat; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Robert Lee Hopkins
Robert Lee Hopkins, 90, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Hudsonville, died June 29, 2007 at his daughter’s home in Kirkwood, Mo. He was a resident of Creve Coeur. He was a retired school teacher, district director of elementary education and interim superintendent.
Services were held at Lane Tabernacle CME Church, where he was a member. Burial was at Valhalla Garden Mausoleum.
He leaves his wife of 66 years, Millie Dowsing Hopkins; a daughter, Delores Needham of Kirkwood, Mo.; and a brother, Edgar Holland of Hudsonville.
Robert Lourise Middleton
Robert Lourise Middleton, 65, of Byhalia, died July 1, 2007 at his home. He had lived in this area since 1972. He retired in 2004 after approximately 30 years as a riverboat first mate. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Watson Volunteer Fire Department and a Baptist.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on July 3 at the Singleton Springs Cemetery in Strayhorn. Coleman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his mother, Hortense Middleton of Byhalia; a sister, Sue Berry of Byhalia and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Middleton; and a sister, Donna Bullock.
Leonard Charles Miller
Leonard Charles (L.C.) Miller, 74, of Potts Camp, died July 2, 2007 at North Miss. Medical Center, Tupelo. He was a Korean War veteran and a retired factory worker with Sunbeam.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 7 at Reid’s Gift MB Church in Potts Camp, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a niece who cared for him, Janie Jarrett of Holly Springs; and two sisters, Lucille Isom, Annie Jones, both of Holly Springs.
Pallbearers were Willie Isom, Cornell Walker, Casey Isom, Adrian Jones and Chip Jones.
Timothy Cartez Moore
Timothy (Tim) Cartez Moore, 38, of Holly Springs died June 29, 2007 at his home. He was a member of Mt. Salem MB Church in Hickory Valley, Tenn., a member of the church choir and a housekeeper with Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 7 at Hudsonville CME Church in Hudsonville. Burial was in Mt. Salem MB Church Cemetery. Rev. Melvin Bufford officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Lenora Gatewood Moore; two stepchildren, Dionne Leasure, Tracy Gatewood, both of Holly Springs; his mother, Alma Moore Harris of Memphis, Tenn.; his father, Joseph Hardaway of Hickory Valley, Tenn.; his stepmother, Lorine Humphrey Hardaway of Hickory Valley, Tenn.; his stepfather, Richard Harris of Memphis, Tenn.; his grandmother, Fannie Moore of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Glenda Valentine of Bolivar, Tenn., Taquita Hardaway of Hickory Valley, Tenn.; two brothers, Aldoncey Moore, Victor Moore, both of Memphis, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Mayes, James Isom, Terrance Jackson, Darryl Freeman, James Hardaway and Aldoncey Phillips. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Hardaway, Andre’ Moore, Anthony Hardge, Martin Hardaway, David Valentine and Chris Hardaway.
