Dewitt Gibson
Dewitt Gibson, 95, of Ashland, died May 17, 2007 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. The widower of Mattie Lee Yancy Gibson, he was a member of Palestine MB Church in Ashland.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 26 at Samuel Chapel MB Church in Ashland, with burial in Good Hope Cemetery in Ashland. Elder Bernell Hoyle officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a daughter, Daisy Gibson Tipler of Ashland; 16 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by children Elick Gibson, Robert Gibson, Sadie Gibson Harris and Sarah Ann Briggs.
Pallbearers were Maurice Yancy, Ray Yancy, Andrea Gibson, Melvin Briggs, Ottis McKennzie, Jarrod Elliott, Jerrell Elliott and Rickey Yancy.
Leon Grimes
Leon Grimes, 48, of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died May 21, 2007 at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. He attended Aurora High School.
Graveside services were held at 12 noon on May 28 at New Hope MB Church Cemetery in Laws Hill. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a son, Leon Grimes Jr. of Aurora; three daughters, Tabatha Grimes, Vanessa Grimes, India Grimes, all of Aurora; two brothers, Ephrom Jones, John Grimes, both of Aurora; and two sisters, Viola Malone and Josephine Grimes, both of Holly Springs.
In lieu of flowers, Grimes Family Educational Memorial Fund donations are being accepted at any Old Second National Bank in Aurora.
Amanda Hillin
Amanda Hillin, 17, of Bartlett, Tenn., died May 20, 2007 in Memphis, Tenn. She was a senior at Bolton High School, where she attended four years. As a freshmen, she played softball. As a junior and senior, she participated in the Early Childhood Education class under the supervision of Marilyn Canale. She had worked recently at the Sycamore View Car Wash, Danver’s and Steak-N-Shake restaurants in Bartlett. She had recently become employed at the Learning Tree in Lakeland. She was a member of Carey Chapel Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, where she participated in the clown ministry as well as softball, soccer and basketball. She had plans to attend Southwest Community College to become a nurse.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on May 23 at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel. Bro. O.E. Langner officiated. Burial was in Carey Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
She leaves her parents, Michelle and Michael Hillin; a sister, Olivia Hillin; a brother, Drew Hillin, all of Bartlett; maternal grandparents, Mickey and Rosemary Joyner of Mt. Pleasant; paternal grandparents, Calvin and Joyce Hillin of Bartlett; great-grandmothers, Rosa Pierce of Mt. Pleasant, Edna Joyner of Mt. Pleasant; great-grandfather, Andrew M. Hillin of Wardell, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandparent, Bill Joyner; and paternal great-grandparents, Ruby Hazel Hillin, Gladys (G.L.) Malone and Vera Lee Malone.
Pallbearers were Don Worsham, Joe Massey, Kevin Joyner, Chris Wilhite, Shepard Taylor, Robyn Snyder, Eddie Joyner and Michael Crabb.
Anthony Wayne Jones
Anthony Wayne Jones, 39, of Lamar died May 18, 2007 in Slayden. He was employed with Franklin Plumbing Service in Moscow, Tenn.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 26 at Hudsonville C.M. Church in Slayden, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Bobby Wilson officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his mother, Annie Jones Mayfield of Lamar; a brother, Troy Lee Jones; and three sisters, Mary Moore of Memphis, Tenn., Sharon Crumb of Slayden and Cassandra Hill of Lamar.
Anterica King
Anterica King, 2 months, 23 days old, died May 19, 2007 at her home.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on May 26 at New Hope Cemetery in Laws Hill. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her parents, Anterio King and Latoria Pegues; a sister, Carleassia Jeffries; and her grandparents, Carl and Velma Pegues, Jeanette Miller and Terry King, all of Holly Springs.
Conrad Andrew Kriese Jr.
Conrad Andrew Kriese Jr., 76, of Byhalia, died May 22, 2007 at his home. He was an Army veteran and a retired employee of MLG&W.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 25 at Memphis Funeral Home, Poplar Chapel. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
He leaves his wife, Dorothy Kriese; a daughter, Pam McNeil of Knoxville, Tenn.; a son, Conrad Andrew Kriese III of Arnold, Mo.; a sister, Doris Voetsch of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; brothers, Bill Kriese of Greers Ferry, Ark., Mike Kriese of West Memphis, Ark.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Jettie Mae Gates Smitherman
Jettie Mae Gates Smitherman, 81, died May 21, 2007 at her daughter’s home in Olive Branch. She was the widow of Lee R. Smitherman. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Springs and a retired fine jewelry department manager at Goldsmith’s Department Store.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on May 26 at Memphis Funeral Home, Poplar Chapel. Burial was in Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery.
She leaves a daughter, Pearl Smitherman of Olive Branch; a son, Calvin Smitherman of Olive Branch; a brother, Duncan Gates of Blue Springs; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Smitherman.
Valsine Isable Watkins
Valsine Isable Watkins, 36, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died May 22, 2007 at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis. A teacher assistant at Holly Springs Primary School, she was a member of Providence MB Church, director of the youth choir and narrator of the church broadcasting from age 13.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on May 29 at Providence MB Church with burial in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Alonzo Johnson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Mitchell Watkins of Memphis; her mother, Murry Lee Isable of Holly Springs; two sisters, Brenda Burks of Memphis, JoAnn Isable of Holly Springs; and two brothers, Lenwood Isable Jr. of Memphis and Cedric Isable of Holly Springs.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lenwood Isable Sr.
Pallbearers were Steve Jackson, Robert Isom, Kevin Gary, Tommy Jackson, Tony Gary, Travis Drew, Willie James Flemons. Honorary pallbearers were the church deacons.
