Charles R. Taylor
Charles R. Taylor, 69, of Holly Springs, died June 4, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Reid’s Gift MB Church in Potts Camp. He was employed at Holmes Logging for many years.
Services were held at 3 p.m. at Strawberry MB Church. Burial was in Reid’s Gift MB Church Cemetery. Pastor Rev. Willie Jeffries Jr. officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife of 22 years, Stephanie McKinney Taylor; six daughters, Charlene Ray of Pontotoc, Sharonie Malone (Woodrow), Shelita Williamson (Leon), both of Holly Springs, Sherlonda Tables (Erroll) of Champaign, Ill., Shaquita Tables (Glen) of New Albany, Sabrekia McKinney (Michael) of Holly Springs; special daughters Annett Vaughn (Dennis), Anna Ruth Cullens of Pontotoc; Wayne Cullens, whom he raised as a son; sisters Bulah Harris of Hickory Flat, Patty Sue Taylor of New Albany; a twin brother, Bill Taylor (Ella) of North Carolina; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild.
Dorothy Mae Preston Rucker
Dorothy Mae Preston Rucker, 74, of Holly Springs, died June 5, 2013, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. She was a church usher.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. on June 9 at Hebron MB Church in Lamar, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Dwight Rucker officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Charles Rucker; three sons, Rev. Charles Preston, Jerry Rucker, both of Holly Springs, Rev. Dwight Rucker of Michigan City; a stepdaughter, Michell Hannah of Chicago, Ill.; her mother, Rella Terry Preston of Lamar; three sisters, Pearlie Washington of Ashland, Evelyn Brown of Detroit, Mich., Hazel Stigger of Columbus, Tenn.; three brothers, James Henry Preston of Ashland, Cedric Preston of Lamar, Brian Ayers of Mississippi; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Vera Mae Dowdy Walker
Vera Mae “Mickey” Dowdy Walker, 63, of Collierville, Tenn., died June 3, 2013, at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was a member of The Golden Grain Good Shepherd Lodge #42, a member of Eastern Star White Flag Lodge #210, a member of the usher board and a member of pastor’s aide at church. She was a certified nurse’s assistant with St. Francis Hospital and private duty.
Services were held at 12 noon on June 8 at New Sherron MB Church in Cayce, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Reginald Purham officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Eddie Walker; three children, KaTunda Walker, Lashunda Walker, both of Collierville, Antonio Stigger of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruth Ann Stevenson of Mt. Pleasant, Dollie Mae McAtee of Memphis; three brothers, Robert Norfleet, Eddie Norfleet, James Norfleet of Byhalia; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Carlos Walker; and siblings Herman Jones and Nadean Slayden.
Charlie Major West
Charlie Major West, 81, of Water Valley, died June 7, 2013, at Yalobusha General Hospital. He was a member of First Baptist of Hickory Flat, a mechanic and a Marine veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 9 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Clyde Thompson officiated.
He leaves his daughter-in-law, Sheila West of Ripley; a brother, James Earl West of Water Valley; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Wayne West; and a brother, William Terrie West.
Ruthie Briggs
Ruthie Briggs, 84, of Slayden, died Sept. 8, 2013, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. She was the widow of Eugene Briggs.
Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 21 at Concord MB Church in Slayden, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor Clyde Williams, eulogist. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Ida Mae Coleman, Helen Luellen (Jimmie Lee), both of Memphis, Tenn.; her son, Willie Briggs (Annie) of Memphis; a sister, Violet Campbell; one brother, Charles Walls of Memphis; and 34 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sons and one stepdaughter.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
Dorothy M. Fitzpatrick
Dorothy M. Fitzpatrick, 86, of Ashland, died Sept. 14, 2013, at Ashland Health and Rehab. She was the widow of Oscar Fitzpatrick, Jr.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Veterans Memorial Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
She leaves two daughters, Patricia Drake of Byhalia, Vicki Sexton of Washington State.
Kortney Leah Hayes
Kortney Leah Hayes, infant, of Red Banks, died Sept. 15, 2013. She was born Aug. 23, 2013, in Southaven.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 19 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
She leaves her parents, Zachary and Santana Hayes of Red Banks; two sisters, Kaylee Yeager, Karleigh Hayes, both of Red Banks; grandparents Rodney Rice of Collierville, Tenn., Sonya Rice of Slayden, Deborah and Terrance Banks of Eads, Tenn., Brian and Lisa Hayes of Red Banks; great-grandparents, Jimmy and Cora Lewis of Slayden, Ben Smith, Edna Hayes, both of Southaven, William Lee Hayes of Holly Springs, Jackie Snipes of Ormond Beach, Fla., Joan Quick of Collierville, Tenn.; and one great-great-grandmother, Opal Smith of Holly Springs.

Jada Nashay Moore, two weeks old, of Red Banks, died Sept. 17, 2013, at Baptist Hospital for Women in Memphis, Tenn.
Graveside services were held at 4:30 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ in Mt. Pleasant. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her parents, Carl Moore Jr. and Curteria Pritchard Moore; a brother, Carl’taran Moore; a sister, Einna Moore, all of the home; grandparents, Carl and Gloria Moore of Red Banks; grandfather, Curtis Pritchard of Collierville, Tenn.
