Ernest Haywood Jr.
Ernest Haywood Jr., 72, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 3, 2007 at his home. He was a retired machinist from Boeing Aircraft in Los Angeles, Calif.
Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 7 at Mt. Gilead CME Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Charles Richmond officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Odessa Johnson Haywood; three sons, Ernest Michael Haywood of Los Angeles, Ronald Christopher Haywood of Palm Dale, Calif., Anthony Williams of Buena Park, Calif.; a daughter, Tiffany Castillo of Paris, Calif; five brothers, Lenthus Ivory, Michael Haywood, both of Los Angeles, Charles Allen of Knoxville, Tenn., Emmitt Riley of Gainesville, Tx., Ron Haywood of Denver, Colo.; five sisters, Marie Sago of Tchula, Dianne Ferrell, Sharon Shearer, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ida Coleman, Billy Joe Holloway, both of Chicago, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Inez Hale and Bernice Christian.
Franklin D. Jones
Franklin D. Jones, 71, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Aug. 31, 2007 at his sister’s home in Memphis, Tenn. He was retired from Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 8 at Isom Chapel CME Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a son, Barry Lotefield of Earle, Ark.; four sisters, Lenora Dortch of Memphis, Gladys Snow of Indianapolis, Ind., Luria Smith of Desoto, Tx., Pinkie Nunnally of Holly Springs; four brothers, Ponce D. Marvin Jones of Chicago, Ill., J.T. Jones Jr., Joseph L. Jones, Mark Anthony Jones, all of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ossie Lee Jones, Clifton Jones.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Paul Anthony Jones, Alric Jones, Lesandra Jones, Derek Dortch, Charles Nunnally Jr., Brian Jones, David Jones, Levone Jones, Dennis Nabor and T.R. Smith Jr. Honorary pallbearers were his brothers and brothers-in-law.
Richard Wayne Phillips
Richard Wayne Phillips, 64, of Potts Camp, died Sept. 9, 2007 at his home. He was a member of Heritage Apostolic Church and a truck driver with C&P Pawn Shop.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery. Bro. Tony Roberts officiated.
He leaves his wife, Sylvia Phillips; a nephew, Robert N. Phillips Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; and a niece, Janet E. Phillips of Jackson.
Gene Autry Spight
Gene Autry Spight, 44, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Holly Springs, died Aug. 30, 2007 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and attended Greater Hope CME Church in Atlanta.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8 at Hopewell No. 2 MB Church in Hudsonville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Danny Kimbrough officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two children, Crystal Stanley and Chad Autry, Stanley, both of Atlanta; five sisters, Minnie LeSure, Jeanette Nunnally, Mary Louise Spight, Callie Spight, Coretta Spight, all of Holly Springs; four brothers, James Sanders Jr., Willie Lee Sanders, John W. Spight, Charles Spight, all of Holly Springs; and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vester Sanders, Clyde Lee Spight.
Pallbearers were Corey Ingram, Stacy Spight, Shawn Lesure, Sean Blake, Devester Sanders, Jamarcuis Lesure and Doug Hinkle. Honorary pallbearers were Willie Sanders, James Sanders, John Spight and Charles Spight.
Annie Frances Thomas
Annie Frances Thomas, 59, of Passaic, N.J., formerly of Lamar, died Aug. 31, 2007 in Passaic.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 7 at Foundation of Life Church in Lamar. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. McDowell officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Roger Thomas; two daughters, Mary Perkins of Lamar, Eva Perkins of Passaic; two sons, Richard Perkins, Tyrone Perkins, both of Passaic; eight sisters, Zeffie McAfee, Georgia Allen, Ida Boone, Lois Allen, all of Lamar, Ruth Batton, Bernice Lloyd, both of St. Louis, Bernice White, Betty Sistrunck, both of Memphis, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
John Austin
John Austin, 93, of Holly Springs, died August 27, 2007 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Holly Springs. The widower of Lydia Hardin Austin, he was a church trustee.
Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 1, at Mt. Gilead CME Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Charles Richmond officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two daughters, Catherine Austin of Holly Springs, Thelma Malone of Aurora, Ill.; three sisters, Mary Glasper of Grand Rapids, Mich., Rennie Nunnally of Memphis, Tenn., Earster Lee Jones of Holly Springs; a brother, Edward Austin of Grand Rapids; 11 grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by two children, Russell Austin and Maxine McNeil; two sisters, Lottie Jackson, Bessie Wilson; and two brothers, Sidney Moses, Robert Austin.
Pallbearers were Calvin Jones, Isaac Jones Jr., Lonnie Jones, James Malone, Kenny McNeil, Eric McNeil. Honorary pallbearers were Roxster Mitchell Jr., Nelson Hardin, A.C. Wilson, Willie Jones, Dennis Jones, Shawn Johnson and Russell Johnson Jr.
Gerry M. Blaker II
Gerry Max Blaker II, 39, of Holly Springs, formerly of Terre Haute, Ind., and Long Beach, died Saturday, September 1, 2007. An Episcopalian, he was an attorney.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 4 at First Presbyterian Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Dr. Milton Winter and Dr. Bruce McMillan officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his two beloved daughters Bailey and Taylor of Holly Springs; parents Gerry and Darlene Blaker I of Long Beach, a brother Bruce Blaker; two sisters Nicole Blaker, Amy Blaker, both of Long Beach, grandmother Johnna Nees, and best friend James McIntosh of Holly Springs.
Pallbearers were Ki Jones, Fred Carlisle, Bob Lomenick, Mark Miller, Joey Miller and Tim Liddy.
Carl B. Cecil
Carl B. Cecil, 83, of Batesville, died Aug. 27, 2007 at Christopher’s Personal Care. He was the widower of Anna Lee Walsh. He was a member of V.F.W. Batesville, a member of Lions Club, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a supervisor with Pittsburgh Plate Glass and a U.S. Army veteran.
Graveside services were held on Sept. 8 at Rocky Cap Veterans Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a son, Carl Bernard Cecil Jr. of Boiling Springs; a daughter, Carol Ann Spencer of Nesbit, Pa.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
