Michael Wayne Westmoreland
Michael Wayne Westmoreland, 57, of Snow Lake/Ashland, died July 22, 2007 in Olive Branch. He was a machinist with TCI and a U.S. Army veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 25 at Ashland Church of Christ, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Nancy Westmoreland of New Jersey; a daughter, Kim Cook of Hickory Flat; five sisters, Ruby Bennett of Water Valley, Louise Williford of Blue Mountain, Mary Ann Duke of Ashland, Kathy Taylor of Olive Branch, Bobbie Benjamin of New Albany; and two grandchildren, Laken and Tucker Cook.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Cheatwood.
Oliver Anthony Jr.
Oliver Anthony Jr., 33, of Memphis, Tenn., died Jan. 4, 2007 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. He served in the Army and was employed with Fed Ex and Home Depot.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 13 at Hearn Grove MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. Rev. Archie Bowens officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his father, Oliver Anthony Sr. of Byhalia; his mother, Gloria Anthony of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Paris Anthony, Octavia Anthony, April Anthony, all of Memphis, Tenn.; and other family and friends.
Sarah Williams Gordon
Sarah Williams Gordon, 92, of Ashland, died Jan. 13, 2007 at Briarcrest Extended Care Home. She was the widow of L.B. Gordon. She served on the church usher board and sang in the choir.
Services will be held at 12 noon on Jan. 20 at Shiloh MB Church in Ashland, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. L.M. Bowers will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four sons, Henry Gordon, L.B. Gordon, Joe J. Gordon, all of Norristown, Penn., Isaac Gordon of Lamar; seven grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Oscar Gordon; and a daughter-in-law, Jane A. Gordon.
Sherrye Lee Henson
Sherrye Lee Henson, 57, of Byhalia, died Jan. 15, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. She was a member of Braybourne Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 18 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial will be in Memorial Park Southwoods Cemetery.
She leaves her husband, Jesse Henson; two sons, Anthony Henson, Chris Henson; four daughters, Ronna Shoffner, Renee Manns, Jessica Light, Kathy Lowe; her parents, Jesse Lee and Annie Mae McDaniel; two sisters, Dolly Williamson, Patricia Canale; and 13 grandchildren.
Peggy M. Howell
Peggy M. Howell, 78, of Water Valley, formerly of Holly Springs, died Jan. 8, 2007 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 10 at First United Methodist Church in Water Valley, where she was a member. Burial was in St. Peters Cemetery in Oxford.
She leaves her husband, Hershel B. Howell; a daughter, Holly Kay Moore of Dwight, Ill.; four sons, Trent Lee Howell of Water Valley, Paul Byron Howell of Gulfport, Rex Dean Howell of Water Valley, James Mark Howell of Anchorage, Alaska; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Terry Warren, Greg Jones, Burney Howell, Mark Stewart, Joe Newman and Jimmy Holloway. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Grand Slam Bridge Club.
Emma Jeffries Mitchell
Emma Jeffries Mitchell, 85, of Holly Springs, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died Jan. 11, 2007 at Alliance HealthCare. She was the widow of Hosea Mitchell. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest MB Church in Memphis, Tenn., a member of the church mother board and a retired domestic worker.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 17 at Rising Star MB Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. W.C. Swift will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two sisters, Jessie Dove Kilpatrick, Maud Ollie Martin, both of Holly Springs; and a niece and caregiver, Vernola Farrow Shaw of Holly Springs.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Jenkins, Diana Govan; and two brothers, Arthur Govan and Willie H. Govan.
Leon Franklin Munday
Leon Franklin Munday, 74, of Byhalia, died Jan. 11, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. He was a Catholic and a machinist with American Can Co. He was an Army veteran of Korea and a member of VFW.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17. Holly Springs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Julia (Sheila) Munday of Cayce; two sons, Earl W. Munday of Memphis, Tenn., Patrick M. Munday of Cayce; two daughters, Margaret A. Munday of Cayce, Kathleen T. Ward of Bartlett, Tenn.; a sister, Charlotte Biegner of Brick, N.J.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Leon F. Munday II.
Steven Turner Ward
Steven Turner Ward, 45, of Lamar, died Jan. 9, 2007. He was a member of Leewood Baptist and a driver for Fitch Oil Company.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery in Lamar.
He leaves his wife, Becky Ward; a son, Lamar Ward of Columbus; stepsons, Tim Harris of Olive Branch, Chris Allen of Lamar; a daughter, Shelby Ward of Columbus; parents, Joe and Marie Ward of Memphis, Tenn.; brothers, Les Ward of Jacksonville, Fla., Richard Ward of Pensacola, Fla.; and one grandchild.
Wayne Lowry Yeager Sr.
Wayne Lowry Yeager Sr., 64, of Hickory Flat, died Jan. 11, 2007 at his home. He was a Baptist and a carpenter.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Michael Baker officiated.
He leaves her wife, Lucy Yeager; two sons, Wayne Yeager Jr. of Hickory Flat, Timothy Yeager Sr. of Ashland; two daughters, Dawn Cartwright of Byhalia, Nicole Gann of Hickory Flat; a brother, Gene Yeager of Union City, Tenn.; a sister, Faye Pannell of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
