Henritta Jackson Hunt
Henritta Jackson Hunt, 82, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 27, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Joe Hunt.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 4 at Yarbrough Chapel CME Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Jerry Christian Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Josephine Hunt of Holly Springs; a sister, Louise Coleman of LaGrange, Tenn.; eight grandchildren 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Harden.
Pallbearers were Willie Hunt, Travis Hardin, Tracey Hardin, LeMorris Hunt, Eric Hardin, LaCortney Kizer and Edward Hardin. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Coleman, Curtis Jackson, Henry Jackson, Bobby Jackson, Joe Jackson, James Jackson and Milton Jackson.
Ernest B. Jones
Ernest B. Jones, 91, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 28, 2007 at his home. He was the widower of Luellar Todd Jones. He was a church deacon, ordained minister, member of Masonic Lodge and a member of Retired Teachers Association. He taught in Marshall County Schools for over 40 years.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 7 at Mt. Zion Taska MB Church in Cayce, where he was a member. Rev. Keith Pendilton officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves five daughters, Rebecca Brown of Jackson, Lurline Walls, Annie Richmond, both of Red Banks, Delcenia Daniels, Earnest Taylor, both of Holly Springs; four sons, Leroy Jones of Holly Springs, Ernest B. Jones Jr., Clarence Jones, Arverne Jones, all of Red Banks; a brother, Benjamin Jones Jr. of Red Banks; 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Florida Fields; and a brother, Booker T. Jones Sr.
Pallbearers were Masonic Lodge #339 and grandsons Adrian Daniels, Reggie Alexander, Marcus Daniels, Antoine Taylor, Jedidiah Jones, Nicholas Jones and Andrew McFarland. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Alexander Sr., Richard Alexander Jr., Christopher Brown, Daniel Brown, Joseph Brown II, Johnny Daniels, Arvern Jones, Clarence Jones, Ernest B. Jones Jr., Leroy Jones, Earl Richmond, Kelvin Richmond, Ozell Taylor and Roosevelt Walls.
Philip Dean Teel
Philip Dean Teel, 70, of Red Banks, died Oct. 3, 2007 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was a fork lift operator with Carrier and a U.S. National Guard veteran with the 108th Armored Cavalry.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 6 at Carey Chapel Baptist Church, where he was a member. Bro. O.E. Langner officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Syble Teel of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Philip Douglas Teel of Holly Springs, Jeffrey Dean Teel of Ashland; a daughter, Paula Teel Poff of Ashland; a brother, Warren Teel of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Lola Dickerson of Holly Springs; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Poff.
Adeline Lyles Woodson
Adeline Lyles (Glennie) Woodson, 76, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 28, 2007 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab. She was the widow of Northern Woodson and was disabled.
Graveside services were held at Greenwood MB Church Cemetery in Lamar. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves four sons, Stanley Woodson of Greenwood, George Woodson of Memphis, Tenn, Water Woodson of Booneville, Clarence Woodson of McGhee; and her caregiver, Pattie Beard of Ashland.
Ellis Craine
Ellis (Boss) (Balley) Craine, 47, of Byhalia, died Sept. 23, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Miss. in Oxford. He attended Mt. Sinai MB Church in Byhalia, where he was a member of the male chorus. He was disabled.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 29 at Liberty Hill MB Church in Byhalia, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves two sisters, Rosa L. Jones, Rochelle L. Wilson, both of Holly Springs; three brothers, Fredrick Wilson, Terrell Wilson, both of Holly Springs, Calvin Wilson of Byhalia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lee Craine Wilson.
Pallbearers were James Milan, Leester Echols, Wendell Jones, Maurice Jones, Bobby Sims, Shawn Milan, Keith Jones and Harvell Milan. Honorary pallbearers were Wesley Craine, Eyrice Craine, Jasper Craine, Edward Craine, Calvin Wilson, Maurice Craine, Fredrick Wilson, Kevin Craine and Tarrell Wilson.
Sallie Etta Peeler Crawford
Sallie Etta Peeler Crawford, 102, of Ashland, died Sept. 27, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of Bill George Crawford. In her early years, she had been a teacher in several schools in North Mississippi, including the Peeler School in Falkner. She and her late husband were instrumental in establishing Ashland Church of Christ in the 1940s.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 29 at Ashland Church of Christ, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Ministers J.C. Enlow, Jeremy Northrop, Lanis Lindsey, Donald Roberson officiated. McBride Funeral Home, Ripley, was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Melba Cox of Ashland, Mary Nell Wimbs of Lakeland, Tenn.; a son, B.C. Crawford of Ashland; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel Clemmer, Irene Alberson, Joyce Renfro; and three brothers, Ruben, Thomas and Troy Peeler; and a son-in-law, Joseph L. Cox.
Edgar B. Joyner
Edgar B. Joyner, 93, of Lamar, died Sept. 27, 2007 at his home. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Slayden Cemetery. Rev. Billy Adair and Bro. Odell Mackey officiated.
He leaves his wife, Lena Frances Joyner; seven sons, Edward Joyner of Baton Rouge, La., Edgar Joyner of Slayden, Cletus Joyner of Lucedale, Joe Joyner of Mason, Tenn., Jack Joyner of Moscow, Tenn., Andrew Joyner of Olive Branch, Donald Joyner of Elk Mound, Wisc.; five daughters, Frances Harris of Drummond, Tenn., Mary Duke of Franklin, N.C., Barbara Fowler of Covington, Tenn., Patricia Hurdle of Slayden, Carolyn Edwards of Red Banks; a sister, Lucille Rhea of Memphis, Tenn.; 39 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
Linda Earline McAlexander
Linda Earline McAlexander, 88, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 26, 2007 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. She was the widow of John I. McAlexander Jr., and a faithful member of Holly Springs Church of Christ.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 29 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in McAlexander Cemetery. Bro. Steve Nowlin officiated.
She leaves a son, David Stephen McAlexander of Columbus, Ohio; four daughters, Diane Jones of Holly Springs, Debbie Scida of Boca Raton, Fla., Gail Rather of Columbus, Ohio, Laurie Nowlin of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Harness of Southaven; nine grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
